In 1984 I was renting a 2 bedroom apartment and sharing it with someone I had classes with at GSU in Atlanta Georgia. My rent was $299 a month which included water and gas. $150 a month for rent.
And it's usually rent, not equity. (They don't own it) I am a landlord in a poor county, and you still have to make 3x the rent for me to even look at you.
My son and his wife lived in a 2 bed apt in NYC for nearly 5k a month for a couple years...I would not consider it 2 bed...one was a bedroom, the other a closet. They faced a 4 wall courtyard..."light" was barely reflected. All the benefits of working for a big company was eaten up by rent, and the darkness of where they lived. He moved to the midwest and has never been happier. Their mtg on a 4 bed home with a yard and a finished basement, is much less than their rent in Manhattan. Insane.
Just imagine how much the city could remedy this issue if they weren't paying 30%+ of the city budget on welfare for people who aren't even citizens of this Country

Lol I got a 2-story house with 3 other friends. 5 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, rent is $500 each. Next to a bus loop and train transit, 10 mins to everything, Mall, Hospital, Major Transit, Banking. Utilities aren't included but they are super cheap anyways. Its a tad bit of an older home but its got a back yard the size of a small parking lot and a massive dog and outdoor recreation park 5 mins down the road. Only downside is the fire station is 5 blocks away and I can still hear fire trucks leaving with sirens on.
The only thing crazier than working 3 jobs and barely making enough to pay rent is the fact that people are still living in NYC despite everything being too expensive, leave the city!!
Many people don't have the money to move although they would love to and it would benefit them. I don't live in NYC but I do live on the outskirts on Long Island. Everything is too expensive.
Have you ever see any disaster movie, where people are running away from densly populated city?Howabout Indenpendence Day?Thouse who try to run from densly populated city, usualy stuck in 6 hours long traffic jam,or get hurt in numerous ways. And to move people out of Newyork, all 8.000.000 of them, with good planing it could take months to move people out of Newyork. But here a real question,if 8.000.000 of Newyorkers moves away, where will they settle? And if their is 2.000.000 empty apartments in Newyork, then what is theirs destiny? So,the only smart thing to do,is to build secret Ark Project, and rescue only 10% of Newyorkers. And you leave city years before apocalipse happens, and later you can rebuild civilization as you see fit.PS:And that is how it's done, professionally.
Imagine costs going up while your local government is giving away millions per week due to people who shouldn't be there in the first place. The great replacement in full effect in NYC.
It is ,this rich wealthy devils destroyed it for good and the migrants and the low level to now high level criminal organizations including NYPD and the mayor and all politicians and the demonic government.
Fly to Mexico, then walk across the border and you will get a bus ride back to New York and you will be given food, shelter, and money and free education.
I believe a American did that earlier this year and got arrested trying to do what the illegal migrants are doing. I know it happened before Americans walking either in Canadian or Mexican brother and mistaken cross into the US and were arrested and charged.
Fun facts. There is a village called Gotham in Nottinghamshire England which got the reputation for being a place of madmen, thanks to a ruse the locals played on the villainous King John. Being a hated King the locals pretended to all be mad so he would not travel through their village. But the reputation of Gotham meaning a place of madness stuck to the village. Which was why centuries later, New York was also knicknamed Gotham City before Batman was around. DC got the name because New York has always been the real life Gotham City.

When I made $55k in 2008 I lived the same as today and also saved $500 a month in NYC. Today I make $280k and live exactly the same, only the apartment is smaller and I don’t save any money.
No matter how poor I was I would leave NYC. Even if that meant dumpster diving for some two liter plastic bottles that I filled with water, tied my kids to my back with a blanket, and then started walking....
When I lived in NYC. I was making 50K. Just to pay bills. I have a Masters degree. I left came South and get paid more than 120k. Working in HR. I realize the companies have salary zoning. NYC and Cali are avoided as much as possible. Salary requirements are too high. What would be 100K anywhere else, that would require more than 25% higher than other states
I live in a sleepy little deadburg in SC. Not much crime, farmers market on Thursday. A dollar G and a family dollar. A couple hole in the wall restaurants. Parks and lakes. We lived in LA for 9 years and when COVID hit and we got the stimulus money we used it to moved to a more affordable city. We live in a small desert town now about an hour from Vegas and we own an acre of land and we're building a house. We also started a small business that's doing well. If I was in New York I would be taking out loans to move somewhere more affordable instead. I know it's not that easy for everyone especially if they have family. Leaving LA is the best decision we ever made. I wake up to gorgeous mountain views every morning and a sky full of stars at night and it's very peaceful and quiet here. I've spent more than 30 years of my life living in big cities. I'll always be a city girl at heart, but I could never go back to how I used to live. Our lives have improved drastically since we left California.
Same here. We sold our house moved from Fresno, to WI and have 80 acres. No way could we have afforded that in CA. Yes, move out of NYC and get more your money & your sanity.
Yep. 10 acres with a beautiful home and pond is about $200-300k where I am. So, about $1500-2,000 a month for the mortgage. With no neighbors and tons of freedom. People living in big cities are being bamboozled. While being told how great the city is 😂
As a property owner, one of the city's "solutions" is to allow tenants to live rent free by making it take one to two years to evict a non-paying tenant. Some of these tenants DO work. They just know how to scam the system. One of my tenants actually works at a busy bagel store. It's costing me thousands of dollars in legal fees to get him TF out, while he gets to rob me with the government's blessing. No developers are building RENTAL HOUSING unless they're masochists. Housing courts and rental housing laws must enter the 21st century. Also, uncontrolled mass migration must stop.
One of the reasons I refuse to rent my fully renovated basement apartment of my two family house to tenants. Just my nephew’s family. And no, I will not be taking in any illegal border people as suggested by Eric Adams and Kathy Hochul …
It is my understanding that New York City still has rent control. My mother was a Washington DC slum lord for a 6 apartment unit back in the 1980s, and it was rent controlled. Some tenants paid the low rents, but others abused the system and did not even pay this. It has been pointed out that rent control has destroyed cities much like airplane bombing does. Advocates of rent control refuse to understand the principles of laissez-faire economics. Renters constitute a much larger voting block as compared to the landlords. This is government authorized stealing!

NY state has been VERY corrupt for a long time. It's just the pandemic and the aftermath that has exposed it all at once and current leadership is awful. I'm born and raised here, didn't vote for Adams (can't stand him), and I'm hanging in there mainly because I'm in a rent stabilized apartment. I never imagined living here my entire life, but I'll admit that I'm considering leaving sooner than I planned to. If you want to zoom out, there's an affordability crisis everywhere, it's just more pronounced in areas with higher costs of living and is simply a function of late-stage capitalism at work. Trickle down economics is a joke and the top 0.01% has been able to hoard more wealth than ever from those making less money. This just isn't sustainable.
You are so right, I suggest you move to Cuba or Venezuela or UK or Iran or NK or even Canada where you will fare much better under their political and economic systems

tbh visiting nyc is vastly different than actually living there and if anything it’s a better experience knowing you can have all this fun and get out and go back to the comfort of your home in another place outside of it.
Affordable housing is an Orwellian term for housing that costs twice as much for cities to build as it would cost if the private sector built them and makes people poorer from paying the taxes used to build them.
Politicians ideas and poor peoples ideas of affordable housing are two different things. This is because politicians make a lot more money so they think 60K year is "affordable".
That would be a good protest. Everyone decide on a month or several to not pay. Flood the courts & DSS . Get our tax money they are giving to illegals & wars

I can testify to that it is impossible to pay my rent (with the assistance) of a housing voucher & because my snap was also cut to $23.00 per month this will cause anyone to go into debt to survive. I’m a 67 year old woman who worked 42 years & paid taxes all my life so I could live comfortably when I retire but because I retired early due to my permanent disability I have to pay a penalty that last for the rest of my life. What’s sad is there are so many New Yorkers out there going through the exact thing I’m going through. When Trump was in office New Yorkers were better off financially than we are now. I don’t make sense to work all of our lives & look forward to retirement & end up like this. When it gets to the point you use your credit cards to purchase groceries that puts you further in debt is a shame before God almighty. It cant be fun to live on the streets and have a half million roommates and no bathroom.

@@hibiscushoney3759 Most people are probably paying at least 60% of their income for rent.
It's not just a NYC problem. I live in a small town in Northern Cali (32k people). There is a very popular college town just 10mi north of me and it causes housing rental prices to skyrocket every year. We're currently at about $1500 for a 1 bedroom here and the avg wage is about $32k. This is not sustainable year over year.
The same thing in Canada. A thousand dollars at least for a one bedroom apt. and more likely the cost is $1,500 and higher. Food prices are pretty much the same as America. Gone through the roof. More and more two income families are going to food banks. A record number for that. And the price for hydro, water etc., keeps going up.
Excellent episode. I live in the Western ÙS but watching the insanity of on purpose policies and conditions that people in New York live with is very educational.
Thanks, and keep it up.
Brilliant video👍👍👍
NYC isn't even nice. Even if it were cheap to live there, it's ugly and a trash can!
Simple... GET THE HELL OUT OF THERE!
We all know what the problem is yet nobody there cares to bring it up. Why should I feel bad for them now?
You get what you vote for. I have ZERO sympathy for anyone still in NYC.
dang not even us underage people who are waiting on the opportunity to get out
Then can I live with you,? Because I don't have money to find a place.
Yeah because everyone in NYC voted for the same thing.
Keep blaming the slaves for what the slave-masters are doing.
@@dmyzd why the fuck would we have sympathy for y'all? choose your parents better next time. 😂😂😂 GFC
Total Bullshit What has transpired 😢but yet the city has money to pay the migrants room and board 🤔plus 1,400 dollars cash card for a family of 3 ,😢that's hard earned city tax money 😢terrible 😢.
I wholly agree! 👍
I think your videos are great and your ideas are sound in pretty much all your videos. You should be the urban planner for New York I think. You're good at explaining things clearly and from many different angles. The videos are very informative and interesting and I like that you cover the topic fully without wasting unnecessary time. Great job and thanks.
Thank black rock and vanguard you will live in a pod eat soy n bugs own nothing and be happy evil folk for it
Now here is the best part. Wen it becomes a ghost town. Only the millionares will be jipping each other
You are so right, I suggest you move to Cuba or Venezuela or UK or Iran or NK or even Canada where you will fare much better under their political and economic systems
The top 0.01 per cent pay 40 of our federal income taxes. Almost 50 per cent of Americans pay NO federal income taxes. As a member of the bottom tier middle class , make that make sense 🧐
Will all this change how new Yorkers vote? Hell to the no no no!
Sad how New York has gone downhill so much. Always wanted to visit there and see certain sites (Lady Liberty, USS Intrepid, Pier 54, Ghostbusters Firehouse, NY Public Library to name a few), but now...not so much.
tbh visiting nyc is vastly different than actually living there and if anything it’s a better experience knowing you can have all this fun and get out and go back to the comfort of your home in another place outside of it.
Affordable housing is an Orwellian term for housing that costs twice as much for cities to build as it would cost if the private sector built them and makes people poorer from paying the taxes used to build them.
I live in a new 2 bedroom 50 yards from the beacb in Bacong Philippines and my rent is only $375. Why would anyone live in NYC is beyond me.
Love our government encouraging debt instead of paths to financial stability
As an outsider watching your and Louis Rossmanns videos it looks like this city is doing everything wrong they can.
Its not just like that in NYC. But in many major and even smaller cities. America and our world is a mess.
Politicians ideas and poor peoples ideas of affordable housing are two different things. This is because politicians make a lot more money so they think 60K year is "affordable".
Imagine everyone decides to not pay rent and see what the government will do now
That would be a good protest. Everyone decide on a month or several to not pay. Flood the courts & DSS . Get our tax money they are giving to illegals & wars
When a guy named Cash can't afford to live in New York, there's a serious problem.
lol the irony
Wow! 1 million subscribers! Congratulations🎉
I am so happy for your success on this channel. I haven't been watching. In fact, I've resorted to watching house hunters NY reruns to get my NY real estate fix!
Thanx for sharing these videos... watch all the time from Canada 🇨🇦 .... Ont. We all are affected one way or another .
6:20, but this also causes mental health cases to rise and domestic violence cases too. Not knowing if one day you will ever have a place on your own to have a family does cause people have issues with relationships too
I can testify to that it is impossible to pay my rent (with the assistance) of a housing voucher & because my snap was also cut to $23.00 per month this will cause anyone to go into debt to survive. When we New Yorkers see all these benefits Adams gives to the migrants who never put a dime into the system it cuts like a knife !
they cut it to give migrants 1000k per month
Please don't think Trump would care about us who have no money...are you joking!
NO I'm not kidding ! When the pandemic we mic was lifted Trump was the one who signed the bill that passed through congress to give Americans a stimulus check to help boost th economy. That was supposed to take place once a month for 3 years & when Biden was elected he stopped it. Even congress was stunned ! I do my homework before I open my miuth.
