Low Score Boy, your intelligence, and understanding of SEGA Saturn hardware and software is of far superior quality to basically all of UA-cam's alternatives. Compared to other offerings such as, GameSack, AdamKorilik, and Project COE, your videos make them look substandard, and very poor. I wish your English language offerings were more plentiful, as everyone I have introduced your videos to is comparatively amazed to what they have witnessed previously on UA-cam. Thank you greatly for your efforts, and I want you to know they are appreciated, and revered locally here in Northern New Jersey, USA. I hope to see much more English language offerings from you in the future, hope to see you soon come up in my subscriber list with a new video.
It seems Adam Koralik doesn't even do rudimentary research. His videos are filled with incorrect information. Just another Johnny-come-lately youtuber trying to corner the market for ad revenue with average "look what I have" content.
Thanks for the English translation and subtitles. This is cool, very informative on the evolution of codecs used. Now I know why the video cut-scenes in Shining The Holy Arc is not at full-screen. Totally agree with your last sentences -- it really made me appreciate the work of the developers!
K Stash Yeah, I used to be super fascinated with the Sega Saturn from like early to mid 2000's and bought a lot of games and stuff for it. And thinking back on it, I would say, the thing that probably interested me the most was seeing the results of their cleverness to get around hardware limitations and utilizing complex hardware to its full potential. But with that said, Dreamcast is still my favorite system. LowScoreBoy made a good point just as my friend put it, "If Sega Dreamcast had used DVD and included a movie player instead of GD, they would have almost certainly won the console war of that generation and still be around today." And I think this is true because I remember when Dreamcast came out, everyone would tell me, "No, I'm just going to wait for the PS2 because it can also play DVD's and old PS1 games." I tried to argue with them that it costs a lot more and the PS2 game library was very weak compared to Dreamcast and it didn't have things like online play at the time, but they still wanted that darn PS2. :(
+Bristecom I agree! If the Dreamcast released a newer model that could handle DVDs and such I've wouldn't have gotten a PlayStation 2 at all and could care less about Grand Theft Auto 3 which was a game that idiots (no offense) fell for. Now if that came on the Dreamcast it would've gotten excellent sales like Shenmue did! And also, the ONLY *Real* reason why the PS2 got great sales to this day WAS because only DVD capabilities and not about the games at all, and the majority of the system's games are pretty boring and lackluster, mucky colors and blurry graphics that i can say can even exactly compare the likes of another overrated system like the Nintendo 64.
well, you clearly havent played timesplitters, a ps2 exclusive launch title that is as wacky as an fps can get, with color variety being something the whole series has
Hello from Greece again! I have to say thank you once more! It is 2:35 (after midnight) and i was going to sleep but when i saw that you posted another video i instantly navigate on youtube to watch it. I really appreciate your work! Actually in our episode today on our channel i gave the link of your in depth analysis about Sega Saturn and i did it with all my heart. I grew up with Sega Saturn and now that i see your videos i knew i made the right choice! I ignored the fact that everyone was bying a Playstation. I stayed loyal to Sega. Your video proves one more time that Sega Saturn was so hard to program in every aspect and as a programmer my self i respect even more all the programmers of that time that chose to make a game on Saturn. Your words should spread to every little boy nowadays in order for them to understand and be blessed for the games they experience today through the next gen consoles. Gaming experiences have really changed but i like to remember the old good days! Another unique and great video! Great job on the translations as well, they are very helpful! Keep up the good work waiting for the next one! :) P.S I am going to watch the video again in order to understand it even better :)
Man, you're just awesome. I hope you continue making english videos for everyone in the world appreciate your knowledge on Sega Saturn and any other console you might talk about. Cheers from Brazil, mister Low Score Boy, you're just the best on UA-cam gaming -- that's no exageration!
Absolutely wonderful. I've been working on the Saturn for just over a year in my spare time and I think you've done a great job describing in layman's terms the technical oddities of the Saturn's hardware. Keep up the great work!
Great video! In particular, your closing statement is really appreciated. Games don't sprout fully formed from a publisher's brow. They take a lot of hard work and dedication from developers. We can greatly increase our appreciation of their efforts by cultivating an understanding of the hurdles they had to face in different eras. Please keep up the excellent work!
My mind craves new information about these subjects, and these days that's hard to find, but you did it. Can't wait for more! Also thanks for going to the trouble of translating and captioning, this is a goldmine of geeky info!
Absolutely fascinating and illuminating. The Sega Saturn is my favorite gaming console, and I'm a real enthusiast of Full Motion Video, so it was great for me to learn a lot more about how FMV on the Saturn works. Thanks so much for providing this in English.
Another great video! It might be a niche topic, but thanks to the internet you will still find thousands of people who are interested in this. Like me. Thank you very, very much!!!
Excellent follow up to the previous episode. Your passion for gaming is admirable. I know it may be a lot to ask but I would sure appreciate English subtitles to your episodes that are not in English. I had so much fun on the Saturn. Thanks for taking me back in time.
Thank you for these awesome english vids, I wish everything haf subs. I am a 'this is cool saturn' owner for 2 days now and enjoying this system. Never had a saturn as a kid. Keep the vids coming!
Even if I am unfamiliar with video compression, I loved this video too, it was easy to understand a bit technically and it was also interesting historically. There are not enough videos of this kind of retro tech analysis on youtube, thanks for making them!
I just subscribed to this channel. I really appreciate what he said at the end of the video about the efforts of the people creating games and this wildly new technology. I hope to hear more about this console and many others to come!
You make fantastic videos! Ill have to try both Desire and Eve the lost one on Saturn. I was always impressed by the video quality of Lunar 2 Eternal Blue for Saturn.
The TruMotion codec was created by the Duck company. They kept developing and created VP4 format on PC that was a sort of optional format you might choose to use, like you might choose to install DivX. Further development led to VP6 codec. Then Google bought all this and kept working to develop VP9 (or maybe that was before Google bought it) and now the format lives on, powering modern UA-cam and WebM !
Both videos about the Saturn are great. It was not very successful on the west so there's not nearly as much detailed information about it as with other consoles. Because of the rushed release and last minute addition of 3D capabilities, it has so many interesting hardware quirks.
Just a suggestion. You could just put English subtitles as a choice on your Chinese language videos, rather than go to the trouble to do an English version. Keep up the great work.
It's a shame that SEGA did not take a few more risks with the Saturn, I know they were hurting from their messing around with add-ons for the MegaDrive (Genesis), but looking at the GunGriffon video comparing the TrueMotion and Movie Card, the difference is clear to see, the movie card version looks fantastic!

And the big mystery for me: Grandia that codec use?? Mpeg of CRI or other?? Like a MPEG aspect gagies but is a full screen force pixeled. Is possible a capable saturn MPEG software to full screen forced to double pixel???
Thanks for the video. I have a saturn game that looks new to me, as far as the physical condition. But when I put the specific game into my saturn I get a message 'no disk in saturn'. Does this mean there are multiple formats for the Saturn and the game isn't compatible with my saturn? If so, how do I determine the correct formats. Thanks again!
"Just kidding, PCFX hasn't posed any threats" *Pcfx logo goes back behind the wall, fixing it in the process* Underrated joke, nevertheless, splendid video.

Super interesting!
nice video. Greetings from Japan
6:35 CRI are still in business today. They make the CRIWARE line of middleware.
+SuperFlamethrower yeah, I mentioned this in 8:03 of video.

Thanks the the french Sub. Merci pour la vers translate
Great video, Do you know how works the dual cpu process in the Saturn?
what's up man, more videos.
Just a suggestion. You could just put English subtitles as a choice on your Chinese language videos, rather than go to the trouble to do an English version. Keep up the great work.
Brilliant video. Can you please make more?

I can see that you've paid a lot of effort.
Though your accent is hard to adapt.

Torico and D were nice on Saturn

typo error i meant to write understand not underground these iphones are terrible.
英文讚喔 不過短片裡配音是不是香港人?有點像香港人說英語的口音
kk ka 是香港人沒錯!
好酷XDDDD
大大超用心的啊XD
Awesome. Someone who says PlayStation/PlayStation One as PS or PS1 instead of that silly PSX name which was really the PS2.

蛤?_?
Your shirt is awesome.
Thanks for the video!
