I really want to start metalsmithing and have a Gentech little torch, your information was most valuable. Thank you.......
OMG, thank you so much for showing this!! I have been wanting to get a Smith little torch, but was afraid I would blow myself and house up!! I feel a little better about it now.
Best beginner guide and refresher I found yet.
I'm connecting mine up now. I'm rusty with connecting bottles and this helped me. Thanks
Finally! Somebody telling the exact propane/oxygen psi! I subscribed ! can't wait to see your other videos!
I read manual but I wanted confirmation from expert, thanks! just wanted to make sure I was reading directions correctly...
Best video ever that ease my nerves. Thanks for posting this❤
Yay! Just what I needed! Another reminder that things always look more daunting than they actually are. Thank you sir!
Thank u. I’m so grateful for ur tutorial.. I want to get a real torch.. and I feel more confident in getting a set up now.
This was a GREAT instructional video! Thank you so much. -Manny
Just happened on this “how to” instructions, because my first time torch components will be arriving in a few days. Thanks for the very clear instructional steps to setting up the regulators to the tanks properly.
Thank you for this very clear explanation
Thank you so much for making this video! It was exactly what I needed and the only one I could find!
thank you. My mother asked me to solder her broken gold chain and i din't remember the steps to set-up the torch since it has been such a long time since iv'e used my tools. I'm not comfortable doing repairs anymore but I couldn't say no to the mom so i followed your instructions and it worked perfect. Problem is I soldered at least 4 links together for lack of pratice !. oh well !! at least she can wear the chain again lol
These are really useful setup tips that I haven't seen anywhere else--thank you!!
Very helpful I'm almost there!
It's very useful! Thx alot.
Thank you very much. No one could ever take the time to show me how to use my torch. I have been afraid to use it for fear of burning up the tips. Again thank you very much, even though it was simple, if you don't know the regulator settings, it is a big thing.
ooooh, thanks a lot !!!!!
Thank you so much. You were very clear.
Thank you!
Thankyou !
Always check for leaks before using. It takes 2 minutes to do.
Thank you SO MUCH. I’m just learning about my smith little torch. I haven’t been able to find a regular that fits the smaller disposable sized propane bottles which is what I currently have hooked up as it came from my Dad’s who I recently inherited this set up from: it has the small red topped mini regular on it. I’m a bit nervous about it’s safety but the. Again he used this all the time. You don’t mention flash back arrestirs. Are they not a necessity? Thank you so much for any advice you could offer and thank you VERY much for your video.
No flashback arrestors!! Do we have safety issues here?
Thank you it was a big help
Thanks! These psi are for soldering, what about for melting silver to make lingotes?
Great video but I have a question that how long can we keep on using that burner or torch?I mean can we keep on igniting it for hours or do we need to give it a rest?it is dangerous to keep it on ignition for hours because it could get too hot or can we use it for as long as we want?
Hello there can I melt gold on this set up I need your guidance please
Do you keep your propane bottle inside?
Thank you so much for this demo. My question is when I attach the flashback regulators to my tanks the arrow is pointing upwards toward the tanks and I am told they are suppose to point downward but the flash arrestors are made so that when the female nut that screws onto the tank the arrow ends up pointing upward. What should I do?
What about the spark arrestors?
good info
Hello! I have flashback arrestors as well. Should I put those on after the regulators and before the hoses?
Either end is acceptable as long as you have them installed
thanks you very much
thanks a lot
Nancy LT Hamilton has a really good video on this subject too.
PLEASE! Update this video and show everyone how to check for leaks BEFORE bringing the tanks inside!
Can hoke torch be used with small oxygen and mapp tanks without the regulator
No check valve/flashback arrestors?
Right, also you need to loosen your regs t handle when done as well as shut the tanks off
Not going to check for leaks?
j dog saw this just after I was about to comment the leak test. Cause mine leaked when it came it and I had to get a replacement regulator since the one sent had a bad seal
thanx, useful :)
Poor set up sequence and dangerous shut down sequence. Blowing out the O2 fitting before installing the regulator is a must. A spec of dust in the system can be a fuel source.
Heat of recompression can injure or kill due to regulator burn out. Search RBO and learn. Always bleed out the lines and back out the regulator to zero so the next guy to use the equipment doesn't get hurt, or worse.
Smith (Miller) has a recommended sequence if anybody is interested in staying safe.
One obvious question…are flashback arrestors required with this torch?…You are not using them.
I do the same for 35yrs always gas then oxygen !
nothing said about the propane regulator... can one use an acetylene regulator by changing out the tank fitting? Is there a proprietary propane regulator? I'm used to using acetylene so I need to know about the propane regulator.
No leak check. Fail
NO CRESCENT WRENCH!!! That is such a NO NO, there are tools made for this and a crescent is not it. Use a tank wrench, or a 10 way tank wrench.
