Don't know if you see post but I was wondering if you were to buy a PTAC heat pump unit now what it make model it would be. I'm considering Friederich but Amana seems to be the most common. Thanks for your videos it's gold for our maintenance.

    Quick question🙋🏻‍♂️
Why does heat wiring from wall thermostat trigger heat at 60 degrees this is the Green wire

How do you get the element out? I have a GE tech coming to look at one of these tomorrow. I can't figure out how to get the element out (afraid of disassembling it and not being able to reassemble it). If i could save the cost of the tech, my boss would be super happy.

Pull unit out of sleeve a little. Remove wire mesh, remove plate under mesh. Remove screws around top plate including the two that hold condenser fan brackets. There are two screws in the side that hold complete assembly ( fan, fan motor, heat element) all slide out from top.

      Hey Alvaro
Then it may be the control board. Can you check for power at the relay?

Do you have any videos on a Friedrich. I started out with A2. Watch one video a man said the relay was bad. I went on bought another control board and put it in. Now it’s cold outside my heat strips won’t come on to heat my room. The heat pump kicks in. I did ohm my element out. They have ohm out ok. The only thing I’m worried about if I have some wires crossed. I took pictures on my phone but when I was taking the board out. I had 2 blues and 2 purple wires that looked the same. Can you help me

So I seem to have an issue as of late that I can't quite rap my head around. I have an older ptac unit that has worked quite well for some time. It was put in with a room addition. That addition has now been used as a master bedroom so the ptac unit is now getting a lot more use than it was previously at times and with more frequency it hasn't been before. So I decided to add an external wall thermostat to the unit which was controlled by rotary dials before back in January. I have noticed now especially in colder weather that the unit sometimes made a ton of noise. Not always but when it does it's always rather cold outside.
I went digging and pulled the unit out while it was making said noise and found that there is quite a bit of water in the pan and that the fan blade is catching ice when the noise occurs. I am wondering now if me installing the thermostat has somehow changed the temperature change over point from the unit running the heat pump to the unit going to resistive coil heating. I just don't know if the amount of water in the pan has always been at that level or now that I'm using the unit more this is an issue I'm just now seeing now.
Sorry for the essay I guess I have two questions really. Can the addition of a wall thermostat change the temperature point the unit will switch from heat pump mode to resistive heating? The unit will only run that fan with the compressor on running in heat pump mode. Unit is always quiet in resistive mode as the fan doesn't spin so therefore doesn't catch the ice.
Guess my second question is without simply drilling a hole in the bottom of the pan or something in the corner how do I get the ice away from the coils and fan so I can run the unit as much as possible in heat pump mode so I'm not burning through electricity unnecessarily. The unit otherwise works really well for its age if it wasn't for this noise from the ice on occasion. It's frustrating because just setting the temp to 70 and leaving it there works really well 90 percent of the time except at about 1am when it starts to get around freezing and ice builds up and the fan then kicks on and sounds like a freight train waking you up. Not sure what to do about it. Thanks in advance.

In regards to the point at which the unit switches from heat pump to resistive heat, it should have an outdoor ambient temp sensor, so it knows when it should be in which mode. A wall-mount thermostat shouldn't have affected that. I'd call the manufacturer's tech support line to confirm. As far as the water issue, 1) make sure the unit is securely bolted to the mounting box (loose upper bolts will allow the unit to rock backwards slightly, causing water to run away from the drains), and 2) cut a small piece of 2x4, with a slight angle on one end, to form a wedge you can jam underneath the unit to cause it to rock forward slightly. A small adjustment is all it takes to get the water to run to the drains. This is what we do for PTAC drainage problems at the apartment complex I work at.

@@12799MaDeuce Appreciate the tips very much. Just been a problem as of late. And what is really strange is the fact that this is happening to two different units. The addition on the house was two rooms. Both had a ptac installed. When one unit started giving me grief I simply swapped them because only the bedroom one is used. And both of them seem to have this issue.
I pulled the unit out again and tried to clean it out really well to make sure there was nothing in the pan causing it to not drain properly. I also pulled out a level to check the sleeve and it ever so slighly angled back. I also found a small drain hole under the pan that sits above a bellow that has a stomper that is supposed to open and close depending on ambient temp. That bellow is supposed to allow condensation to pool to some degree in the summer to splash from the fan shroud and open in the winter to allow the pan to drain. I noticed in my unit there was a little bit of gunk in there. Not sure if it was enough to clog it up.
That was just a few days ago and since I haven't had a day under freezing yet to check if that fixed the issue. If it doesn't I'm half tempted to simply drill a hole in the pan at the lowest point idk. I don't want to lock out the heat pump and just use resistive heat because it eats so much more electricity but yet I don't want to randomly get woken up in the middle of the night either from ice catching in the fan. idk. In about another day or so Ill have a few nights with rain and below freezing to see if it drains enough to not freeze the fan up.

      Hello,
Are you sure its the ptac? Could it be another sort of water line busted.
