- Shirei Moledet, Songs of the Homeland, sung by outstanding Israeli singer Ofra Haza (1957 - 2000). These are songs from the early days of Israel, the 1940's through the 1960's. They evoke a time that seemed simpler and more optimistic, a time when the Jews of Israel felt more equal and more united. Ofra renders these songs with her unique Yemenite Israeli quality. If you close your eyes, you can inhabit another era.

There was some sort of scandal .. she might have made a film about Yemeni children disappearing and the government wanting her out of the way. She was introduced to someone (who had HIV) ........ A Good soul attacked by wicked people
She truly was a force of nature! I'll never forget the first time I heard her voice in the Sisters of Mercy "Temple of Love" song; I immediately wanted to learn about the woman behind that voice!!

This is in Hebrew. She was a Mizrahi Jew from Yemen who emigrated to Israel.
However, she does have English language songs. My favorite is her collaboration with the Sisters of Mercy in "Temple of Love."
And yes, she was absolutely stunningly beautiful. Such a tragic loss. Mayher memory be a blessing.
@@maneckineckbeard1749 The temple of Love is the re-recording of a Sisters of Mercy's song with Ofra. It should not be credited to Ofra. Look after the first version of the song without Ofra (ua-cam.com/video/u_W3VykYhWA/v-deo.html). Most of her English songs are found in her international-directed albums, Shaday (1988), Desert wind (1989), Kyria (1992) and of course Ofra Haza (1997). These are very good songs. My bests are Daw da Hiya with Iggy Pop, Don't Forsake me on Kirya, and Paintbox (which she sung for the 1994 Nobel Peace Prize)
@@patrickgerardin5001 Thanks so much for the info. I actually already knew she did that track with Sisters of Mercy, because I actually discovered Ofra through listening to SoM! But then I got interested in her as an independent artist.
