Last time Zuko was on his knees begging for forgiveness (in tears), he was burned. This time he was given love. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t tearbend in this scene!
Combine that with the fact that he went on his knees when he asked the Gaang for forgiveness and was still rejected the first time (and got water-backhanded in the face by Katara), no wonder he was so worried that his Uncle would also reject him.
“He may have been your father, but he wasn’t your daddy.”
In the end, Zuko was the little soldier boy who came marching home.
T_T
Just... fuck, man... Why?
i really didnt need this rn bruh
Bro no not like this. Not like this
Come ooonnnn maaannn!! 😩🥺
Aang: Technically is manslaughter
Kyoshi: I'll take the murder charge and ill do it again
Kyoshi is my favorite. No fucks given.
@@riolkin Kyoshi, is definitely one of the more interesting one, gonna have to pick the book one of these days
This gives us some insight into Aang point of view too, he knows some of his fights must have caused colateral damage, he is not oblivious, he is not responsible if they get injured for being there as long as his intention wasn't to harm them
@@Marcel-qb9ge there are two books
@@Marcel-qb9ge the early life of Kiyoshi described in both books is Fascinating. I sincerely hope you snag those books and dive in. I read both in one day because I could Not stop.
One of my favorite Uncle Iroh moments happens in this episode, and it's a subtle one. During the last war meeting, When discussing their plans, Iroh tells Zuko what he needs to do and where he needs to be. But when Sokka asks what their part in this will be, Iroh smiles and asks him, " "What do you think it is?" I love this part because, I believe, Iroh knows about Sokka's tactical ability and allows Sokka to see his position in the upcoming battle himself, instead of being told what to do. In this moment, Iroh is treating Sokka as an equal. Like another General. And that smile he has when Sokka, correctly, figures out where he, Toph and Suki, need to be and what to do seems to be one of pride. I love that he acknowledged Sokka's ability and gave him his moment to show it. HGe really is everyone's uncle.
Omg that is a great way to look at it! I love it! Once again, I learnt something new!
However, some people were upset that apprently Iroh told Zuko what to do like become the Fire Lord instead of letting him decide what he wishes to be. What do you think of this though?
@@njannah97 I disagree with that take, personally. I felt that he was telling Zuko what the Fire nation, and the whole world needed. It needed a firelord that had unquestionable honor, and an idealist. When he said that it has to be him, it seemed more like encouragement. As in he is the best person for the job. If he had phrased it differently, like saying, "I think you would be a good person to be firelord." Zuko wouldn't have felt as sure that this was his destiny.
Also, this was one of the first times that Zuko was whole-heartedly listening to Iroh's advice and what he had to say, so maybe Iroh took advantage of that to make his opinion unambiguously clear. And, if I remember the script correctly, he say that it "needs" to be him. Not that it "has" to be him.
I loved the moment when he told Aang that he chose wisely to choose his earthly attachments and love, that power is overrated... Everyone watching was so fixated on the OP power of the avatar and feeling like it was the obvious answer to everything and, though in the end Aang chose to finish so he could have the avatar state, we as the audience needed to hear that too
Actually! One of my favorite parts about this is that the other non bender master is the sword master who taught Sokka. And he actually gave Sokka the white lotus tile making him a member. Which means iroh asks him as another member not just as another tactician!
This is the difference between Game of Thrones and ATLA. ATLA's final episodes did the whole series justice, and couldn't have gone any better than it did.
Anytime GoT is brought up i get a nasty taste in my mouth. Totally forgot about the series after it ended, even the good early seasons. Just burned it from my memory..
They could have done the whole forth season instead of introducing a deus ex machina
Krio, the more y'all keep bringing up game of thrones for no reason the more I'm convinced that y'all loved the last season like Jesus what does this show have to do with game of thrones 😂
@@blackfrieza1912 so what has Jesus got to do with ATLA that you had to bring him up? 🙄 Anyway, perhaps you didn't know that Sean TankTop were known for their GoT reactions, and that they also mention various GoT references and passing comparisons to it throughout their ATLA reactions. Did you know that?
@@krio. I totally agree. The love that I had for GOT shriveled up and died in some place within my heart with how it ended. There was this build up for a grand, epic ending; all the pieces were there and it could have been great, heck the fan theories were awesome and most of them reflected the potential.
That is where ATLA prevailed. In ATLA, the ending was beautifully molded into a complicated and intricate work of art.
Iroh is not only a firebender
but also bends the tears right out of our eyes
So... A waterbender too?
@@SaidBKD95 he did study the water benders to improve
a tearbender also he is
"selfless duty calls you to sacrifice your own spiritual needs and do whatever it takes to protect the world" just gets me every time
Same, it just makes me feel so emotional for some reason.
The idea of Yang-chen, who spent her whole life as an Air Nomad, advocated throwing away their entire culture and sense of values and ideals inherent in Airbending, for the sake of this goal....
It's one of those roles that when done right makes you remember their name even if they spoke only once in whole series.
@@DanteRU0312 I disagree, Aang still risks his life to defeat the firelord and give his everything to win, that's his selfless sacrifice. He just found a way to take away the firelord's power without taking his life. I think it's a better ending, because in a democracy, we should be looking into removing the wrong people from power, without resulting to unmeasured violence, a very relevant lesson today
PS, the comment may seem like spoiler, but I think they already finished the show on patreon, so no it's not going to spoil anything for them
@@DanteRU0312 Because a better ending would be sometimes you just have to murder an asshole? Idk, Aang's stubborn pursuit of a third option, and risking his own life time and again to reach it, seems like a pretty good lesson to me. It doesn't undermine the other Avatars' points of view. The "it's still for kids" version wouldn't have included these scenes at all
iroh's fuckin arc, the guy laid siege to ba sing se for 600 days in the name of the fire nation, his son died there so he quit the campaign, it fundamentally changed him as a person, and then he realised all these years later that he was actually destined to lay siege to ba sing se after all, but only to save it from the fire nation he once fought for, holy shit
And this time he did it in only one day, not 600
Iroh had it somewhere before his son died, remember he lied about killing the last dragon? That was before Ba Sing Se. Something was special about him.
@@catapatataI think that was simply because Iroh respected the Fire Nation's history, and so he agreed to make sure the Original Firebenders, the last of their kind, stayed alive. Iroh might have been a general, but he is not the kind of person who would disregard his nation's history.
Just so you're aware, June's Shirshu couldn't track Aang because his scent was being masked by the Lion Turtle, a wandering being so ancient it smells like everywhere in the world. The creators stated this.
Spoiler
I love the fact that not just any lion turtle showed up but from the markings on its head its probably the lion turtle that fostered what became the fire nation.
Sean TankTop: The man who wears his emotions on his sleeves, even though he canonically only wears tanktops
Dead 😹😹😹😹😹😹😹
He ain't got no time for sleeves, that's where all of his emotion goes!
“Personally, I don’t see the difference...”
Dang I almost forgot what a savage Kyoshi is! FRIGGAN love her
he still technically died from her actions even if there was a bit of his stubbornness in there
Lol. Yep. What I like the most, is that Aangs attitude towards her isn’t a school yard mean kids thing. It has more to do with Aang knowing how intense Avatar Kyoshi is.
Weren't they going to do a series about kyoshi?? wtf happened to that!
"We have ruled that your actions were in self defense, and not murder-"
"No, it's murder. And I'll do it again."
Toph earthbends the comet back into space.
The end.
This comment is SO underrated because YES SHE FUCKING WOULD OH MY GOD SHE IS SO OP I LOVE IT
Best showdown in Nickelodeon history, my 13yr old self was super hyped with the fight and I loved the quote the lion turtle 🐢gave to Aang “"The true mind can weather all the lies and illusions without being lost; the true heart can tough the poison of hatred without being harmed; since beginning-less time, darkness thrives in the void, but always yields to purifying light." After 16 years it still is a powerful message and I always took it to heart
I like that the quotes are directly inspired by the Confucius teachings. Definatly recommend to chek out this fella!
I watched the finale premiere in the living room while my mom was cooking in the kitchen and my dad was doing some work on his laptop and they both got hooked watching the show and asking me 1000 questions about it
I love Morgan’s duality of of being the most savage and cutthroat but will awwww at giant turtle ducks. Please don’t change Morgan!!!

I have a soft spot for uncle/nephew (or nieces) stories once I became one, particularly because you don't really see them that often in media and this show, and this specific episode, is the pinnacle of them all. Water bend every time I see it.
Aw that's lovely Marcus! Same with my nephew!
Dante Basco killed it during the reunion with Iroh. The newer voice actor for Iroh was cool but Mako would’ve done amazing during the scene.
Just to point out, that was the same sandal Iroh dropped way back in Book 1 when he left it for Zuko to find after being captured by the earthbenders. Zuko kept it with him ever since.
I feel like a lot of Zuko's fears about not getting Iroh's forgiveness comes from the fact that the he wasn't forgiven the last time he "made a mistake" with a parental figure. What Ozai did to him scarred him far more than what can be seen physically. So it's a more emotional fear than a rational one.
Sjmilar thing happened when he asked the Gaang for forgiveness, they rejected him. Even after they let him in Katara threatened hin.
Sean's keen insight into the nuances of human emotion must make him a great bartender.
A great barbender.
"Eel hound" as a euphemism was brilliant.
Katara: "I have Aang's staff."
😏😏😏
Bruh
...in mah pussssaaaay
FBI! OPEN UP!
Zuko confronting Iroh is the single most influential scene on my life from any show. Dante Basco does an incredible job.
[Spoilers for last episode]
One thing I love about Aang's interactions with the past Avatars is that even though they all are telling him to kill Ozai, they are providing him with the "why" underlying that advice. Roku says an Avatar needs to be decisive, Kyoshi says there needs to be justice for there to be peace, Kurruk (sp?) says he must actively shape his destiny, and Yang-Chen says he must put the needs of the world above his own spiritual wellbeing. And, in the end, they are all *right* about those being important!
But Aang proves himself as a true Avatar on the same level as his predecessors by honoring the wisdom in their advice - that "why" - but also staying true to himself and his own values / wisdom. He acts decisively, he brings justice, he actively shapes the future of the world, and he puts his own spirit in direct jeopardy, *but* he also refuses to kill. In so doing, he proves himself as "Avatar Aang".
Love your guys' reactions! Kudos to Dustin for calling the Force-Ghost Avatars and Morgan immediately catching that they were White Lotus.
They actually don't even say to kill Ozai. They entirely let Aang make the choice.
It's been said a million times by a million different people.
We all need an Uncle Iroh in our lives.
"Today, Destiny is our friend... I know it."
That line kicks my soul in the dick every time.
This channel is so underrated. If we celebrated the beauty of humanity, I'd nominate this specific reaction video. That Iroh scene was such a legendary moment, never fails to shed a tear or two
I really like that Zuko and Iroh cried. Just like Sean and Dustin. Men crying is still an issue for some people and another great touch of the series.
Ya gotta let it go!! I’ve cried on camera a decent amount on this channel now
I love how they get around Nick executive mandates with Qin and Kyoshi. It's pretty clear that Qin dies by falling off a cliff because they're not allowed to say Kyoshi murdered him, so they had to leave some wiggle room to argue that she's technically not responsible, but when Kyoshi is directly asked about it...
"Well, technically he just fell to his death while being a dick-"
"He died because of me, does it really matter how? And besides, I would totally have killed him if I'd needed to. Kill Ozai."
Related fun fact - word of the creators is that Kyoshi was the only one who thought that killing Ozai was definitely the right approach. The others were warning Aang that he might *have* to kill Ozai, but Kyoshi was the only one who actually recommended it.
An episode 1, Zuko ordered his uncle be awakened because he had found The Avatar. Here he waits for Iroh to wake up and he waits patiently.
Mai sees he’s bothered, but is uncomfortable to point it out, so she goes with a more general question about his physical well-being instead, while Katara goes straight for the emotions. Mai tries to deflect and get out of the murky emotional territory with a dry joke. She’s trying to get him out of his headspace. Katara tries to untangle the mess without denying the validity of his fears. Mai is not Katara. Mai grew up in a very different environment, both the Fire Nation, and spending lots of time with Azula, also her family doesn’t look particularly close-knit, where expressing fears and weaknesses is not acceptable. She’s trying everything she can to calm Zuko, but emotional openness is simply not something she knows how to do. Katara is much more comfortable talking directly about feelings and it’s definitely a family thing.
The formality of Zuko and Ozai is suffocating. The physical distance is enormous between them. Ozai is on the elevation to symbolize the power imbalance. They are divided by fire. Zuko is a foremost a subject of the Fire Lord, a tool to his will and only secondly Ozai’s son. With Iroh, there are no defenses around him. He doesn’t try to intimidate with his power. *You have been away for a long time. I see the weight of your travels has changed you. You have redeemed yourself, my son.* Zuko’s feelings or experiences don’t matter, only Ozai’s perception of it. It is only important that he behaves the way Ozai expects him to. Ozai grants Zuko his redemption. It doesn’t matter whether he actually feels redeemed. Ozai doesn’t even touch him. Zuko may be his son, but it certainly doesn’t feel like it. By contrast, Iroh’s first words are silence and for a moment it looks like Zuko’s worst fears have come true. Iroh hates him and doesn’t want him there. But actually, Iroh listens. *Uncle, I know you must have mixed feelings about seeing me. But I want you to know, I’m so sorry Uncle. I’m so sorry and ashamed of what I did. I don’t know how I can ever make it up to you.* Iroh doesn’t interrupt Zuko with words, but with a hug, completely at the level of Zuko, showing him with action that he is loved, wanted, and forgiven. And he interrupts him before Zuko has a chance to vow to do whatever groveling task Iroh has for him to earn his forgiveness. His love is unconditional. *I am proud because when your loyalty was tested by your treacherous uncle, you did the right thing and captured the traitor. And I am proudest of all of your most legendary accomplishment: you slayed the Avatar.* This isn’t about Zuko. It’s about Zuko choosing Ozai over Iroh. It’s about proving that fear is more reliable than love. It’s more the way Ozai is beating Iroh. *How can you forgive me so easily? I thought you would be furious with me. I was never angry with you. I was sad because I was afraid you lost your way.* For Iroh, it’s not about himself. Nor Ozai or Azula. It’s about Zuko and his love for him. *What did you hear? Azula told me everything. She said that she was amazed and impressed with your power and ferocity at the moment of truth.* Ozai is not interested in Zuko’s version of the story. The forgiveness is built on a lie and not only on Ozai’s whim, but Azula’s as well. There is no feeling of catharsis after three years of suffering and doing his best. With Iroh though, there is catharsis. Zuko is crying from both eyes. Zuko had no idea how families are supposed to work, all due to Ozai. Thanks, you piece of human garbage.
Wow I wonder how long it took u to write this, thanks 👍
@@typical_ae9200 Not every long. A few minutes tops. Most of it came from a different video.
So how many onions are you gonna bend during this scene?

The reunion of Iroh and Zuko always makes me emotional. But especially when you think about the fact that the last time Zuko disappointed a father figure he was burned and abandoned. So I can't even imagine how scared he must have felt too. T _ T

Iroh must have learned feelingsbending from those dragons the way he makes us feel so many good emotions all the time.
14:03 if you don't cry at that reunion, you don't care enough for this show. It's so deep
The Iroh/Zuko forgiveness scene hits the same every time. I’ve watched ATLA dozens of times and I still get misty eyes watching Zuko be forgiven unconditionally.
What always gets me with the iroh moment is zuko immediately expecting furiousness with one mistake cause the last time he made a big mistake with family it got him a scar and banishment
So Aang was able to bend Ozai’s spirit cause his own spirit was unbendable. He was set on not killing the firelord and didn’t let the other avatars’ wisdom cloud his own beliefs.
The zuko iroh relationship is still my favorite of this show.
Love the channel. Representing out of work bartenders everywhere.

Even after 10+ years & rewatching this show more times than I can remember, that Zuko & Iron reunion scene always gets me!
This episode has two voice artist call backs: Avatar Yang Chen and bloodbender Hama are the same voice artist (Tress MacNeille), and Avatar Kyoshi and Jun are the same voice artist (Jennifer Hale).
I cry at that scene everytime. Every single time.
Good to see you succeeding out there man!
Aw thanks man!!
I've watched the Iroh forgiveness scene a thousand time, eyes waterbended a thousand times !
That statue commentary is why I love you guys.
NOBODY survives that moment between Iroh and Zuko. And that's the way it absolutely should be.
When you binge the whole playlist and it’s flipping one away from the series finally…
Yes! I’m so excited!
The ending of this episode gave me legit chills the first time with the comet appearing.
We all need a uncle Iroh in our life 💙🔥🤞🏾
I love this episode so much and I got chills with what Avatar Yangchen said to Aang because it's a quick little character development for him but also something to remember for those who want to watch Korra. Every avatar is different and Aang was raised as a monk so a lot of his beliefs and methods of being the avatar are shaped by how he was raised. Even with Kyoshi, she was always more of a justice based avatar, she founded the Dai Li and didn't take any shit and would not hesitate to kill eliminate someone for the greater good. I think that Aang's belief system was so strong all through ATLA that people sometimes think that all avatars act like how he acts when it comes to problems but you'll see in Legend of Korra that it's not the case. The air nomads were wise but few of them have been the avatar and Yangchen reminded him of that. Roku telling Aang to be decisive because his prior feelings for Sozin were always at the back of his mind when Roku had to confront him. He was basically telling Aang that he cannot fight with himself on this, he needs to make a firm decision or else it'll backfire. Kuruk's advice was more along the lines of what Iroh has been teaching Zuko about shaping his own destiny. Up until this finale, my 12 year old self has never been that anxious.
Sean and the Drases are reaching the end of ATLA! Congratulation in almost completing your Avatar journey! Can't wait for what you all have to say in Korra.
"idk guys, that statue represents a lot of history...", fucking hilarious.
IROH FOR PRESIDENT SAY "I"
Remember that the last time zuko asked for forgiveness his face got burned by his father. Now he did it again and got the love he needed from his 'real' father
It's about time. Yall are taking forever
In case the universe is listening, please consider Attack on Titan along with Korra after Avatar
I concur
Into the Inferno is as action packed as any Avengers third act. The Old Masters was like a gathering of characters and to settle the stakes. The Lion Turtle is a cosmic animal that existed before the age of Avatar and are like a primordial species enlightened with the cosmic
Also imagine watching this series finale and having to wait for every episode live! So much stress on a kid lol
The feels in this episode are real
Morgan going "Yeah" silently with her big ol' eyes at 12:07 was adorable oh my god
An idealist with a pure heart and unquestionable honor~
The perfection that are the last episodes. In the 1st episode you see zuko waking up iroh for his own need but in the last episode you see him waiting for iroh to wake up.
next two episodes will be gold
See when I watched this as a kid i completely understood that feeling of pure fear that your parent would be so angry and they'd never forgive you (lets face it Iroh is his dad)
Now as a parent it made me cry harder at the idea of embracing a child I thought i might have lost and who is in front of me actually believing it's possible I could ever reject them
Unrelated, the comet makes the fire lord stronger... But it makes Aang stronger too
Roku and kurig(idk how to spell)
"You must be clear and make good decisions"
Yangchen and kyoshi
"Knowing is half the battle, and the other half is violence"
monk gyatso was also a member of the white lotus
I love that Aang knew too bow to the lion turtle
I loved the Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas reference! Lmao
If it’s one thing worth doing it’s worth doing right!
I love the image of Aang being the only thing that stands in The Fire Lords way, ooo so good.
