Oh, my heart breaks at the passing of Shirley. She was such a wonderful elephant! I remember well the LOUD reunion with Jenny and the joy expressed by both elephants! Thank you for providing her with more than 20 years of "freedom" in her retirement. She taught us all so much. RIP Shirley, never forgotten, always in our hearts!
I'm from Evansville IN, where Bunny spent many years in our zoo. I remember Bunny being so close to Shirley, and I'm glad she had the chance to spend the last years of her life with Shirley, Tarra, and Jenny. Shirley was a very special girl, and I'm sorry for her loss. But I know she's running free and trumpeting loudly. Thank you for taking such good care of her.
@@ravensdotter6843 Thank you. Their story aired on It's a Miracle. ua-cam.com/video/AXVwkNYxL6o/v-deo.html I just watched last week it but have been watching this channel for longer. I didn't fully appreciate that this was where she and Jenny re-united til I saw this video. A bit of an emotional roller-coaster for me; I just watched the Jenny one too. But yes, they are together again, again.
Shirley was the reason I first got involved with the Sanctuary. My husbands mom lives in Columbia not far from the sanctuary and I love what you do for all the beautiful creatures there. Thank you so much. I will miss Shirley. Used to watch her on camera every day!
Shirley we can almost hear your joyful trumpets up on Rainbow Bridge...all healed and restored to your youthful vitality. You are not gone Shirley, merely gone-on, patiently awaiting reunions with all the other elephants as their turn comes to journey up to Rainbow Bridge. We love you Shirley always have, and always will!
So sweet. Will always will remember Shirley. She came to Elephant Sanctuary from Monroe Louisiana where I live too. Used to visit her at our zoo but always felt so bad that she was all alone. Oh she was loved by all but need to be with her own kind. So glad she got to have this last part of her amazing life. Roam free forever sweet Shirley. We love you 🥰🐘
I grew up in Monroe. She was a joy to see. I’m glad she was able to spend her Golden Years at the Sanctuary and actually get to live with other elephants again.
God bless all the elephant rescues, takers and carers who gave a wonderful and a joyous life to lovely Shirley. We will miss you dear Shirley and RIP forever.❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I adopted Tarra for my granddaughter last year. She loves elephants. Since then she has come to know every elephant in the Sanctuary, their names ,their history and what they like to eat. She loved Shirley and thought her to be amazing and was so happy that she lived in such a wonderful place. We face time and watch the elecam together. Rest well Shirley.
Shirley was the reason I started following your channel. I am very sad that she has died but I am so very glad that you were there to give her last years happiness and a quality that no one else ever thought to give her. *HUGS*
Just when I thought I cried all the tears I could cry over Shirley, I watched this and here I go again. Thank you for giving Shirley such a beautiful peaceful life for the past 20 years.
I sorrow with you. Thank you for giving Shirley 21 wonderful years of love and care--and for sharing her with us. Thank you for all you do for these precious beings.
Your video of Shirley many years ago was the first time I saw an elephant that made me cry in joy. I am in my 60's now and even as a child would never go a circus or rodeo because of the animals. Seeing Shirley and your other rescues living a life free of pain & shackles was beyond belief. I have always loved animals and rescued chipmunk & mice, snakes & birds. Now I rescue dogs. To know that you give these sentient beings a lifetime refuge. . . Blessed be Shirley, may your next step be one of grace
I have loved Shirley for many years. I am so sad to hear she has passed. I can’t say she is gone because her large and beautiful sprit will never be gone. She is here forever 🐘❣️
She was a majestic pachyderm, so wonderful to watch. Im glad she had some freedom and a better life in her later years, she was so deserving. Keep up the good work.
I will be donating to The Elephant Sanctuary of Tennessee in your honor sweet Shirley. May you live your eternity in the jungles of Heaven, never again to be separated from your family and friends. You are a very special elephant and I will miss seeing updates about you. 🐘😢❤
I remember when I saw his story in a National Geographic documentary... One of the stories that moved me the most... And his caregiver, luckily had a happy ending
So very sad...my heart is broken. She was so beautiful. Thankful she lived at The Sanctuary for so many years...y'all made her senior years so peaceful and happy!
After all that humans did to this beautiful girl, I am so thankful that here is a sanctuary for elephants like her...a place where she was able to be FREE for the last 2 decades of her life. What a blessing The Elephant Sanctuary is.
After all Shirley went through in her life, to find her true home and friend to live out the rest of her days is truly a miracle. Who would have ever thought she would end up in a place with another elephant from her past. RIP Shirley
I'm so sad to hear she's passed away 💔 she was inspirational and wonderful. I hope she knows how loved and missed she will be. The beautiful Ms. Shirley 😭
It's so hard seeing that old footage. All the elephants like Shirley or the unluckiest ones never rescued. We've done so much wrong. Bless her strong spirit.
I first knew about your sanctuary and Shirley when I saw the video of Shirley and Jenny! Condolences to all of you on your huge loss. Thank you for giving Shirley and all the other elephants such a wonderful life! Rest in peace Shirley!
I remember for the first time watching her story and that was like 1981? I bawled and cried so hard I had a head ache. I love all animals but the elephants have special place in my heart. We have to fight for all animals until they are free from all abuse and cages.
She always gave off a vibe of calmness yet with a very upbeat temperament. That leg looked painful or, at least, uncomfortable, yet it never seemed to get in the way of moving. What a truly inspiring elephant!
I only just met Shirley on her last birthday video, i'm going to go and watch all her videos, thank you for giving her all those years of care, love and kindness, RIP, sweet angel.

It so sad to hear of the death of Shirley, however, she was in the best place, the best Sanctuary in US, or even the world. She did enjoy 22 years with you, and the love and caring she had been given by you. Adios, dear Shirley, we all will miss you.
I hope you all are doing well as are the resident denizens of the Sanctuary as you grieve her loss. She lived a long life and thank you for sharing her story.
It breaks my heart what this beautiful creature of God endured at the hands of man. No animal should ever, ever go through what Shirley went through. A friend of mine adopted Shirley for me as a 60th birthday present a couple of years back. I will never forget that. Rest in Peace beautiful girl, you deserve that and so much more. God Bless.
