Watched this 4 times this week. I miss real people very much. Good people. Honest. Don't steal. Helpful. Didn't take no mess either. Good don't mean weak.
I grew up in Haywood county NC, on the other side of the county from Maggie valley, and this man grew up as a personal hero of mine. R.I.P. Popcorn, you are dearly missed. They should've left you Alone
Taxes. Taxes. Taxes. Such a sad story… should’ve just left him alone…… (random story) but I think the same ATF agent who caught popcorn was the one who did WACO
Im from Central PA, and i totally agree, that man wasnt hurting a dam soul, i would have loved to have had the chance to meet him..
@@TwistyHooks ATF didn't catch popcorn it was a state unit that got him.
RIP he wasn't saved he's in Hell. The bible is very clear you must be born again. John 3:3 and John 14:6 and many more. Sorry Zac but that's God's way. Jesus Christ died for Popcorn just like you and me but you have to Repent and put your trust in Jesus Christ only. Love you son
@@markjordan1765 I think you and I have very different interpretations of the bible. That could be because you haven't actually read it and are just parroting some misunderstood passages you heard in church. I don't know... just a guess.
RIP Popcorn ❤️
Sad cause he said he wouldn't slow down or even stop cause too many bad memories but he looks back to take one last look at that old barn.
Rest easy , Popcorn
My grandma grew up on Hemp Hill. She still tells stories about driving popcorn to school and what not. She also, like him, will not go back up there for the bad memories. I’ve always wondered what was so bad up there but never wanted to make her think about it.
What bad memories though please enlighten us
That little double take there at the end, one last look back at it. You could tell deep down, he probably knew he wasn't ever gonna see it again. Even before all the law BS. Like he said at the beginning, he didn't want nothin to do with the place. That one little last look spoke volumes. Really something.
I can relate to what he said about the old homeplace. My granny on my dad's side of the family had no intentions of ever going back to where she grew up for a visit. She had such a hard time there that it was just something she wanted to keep in the past.
I was ten years old when my mama told me to go unload the groceries out the car. I was saying that I would unload em when I was good and ready when I was knocked down on the halls floor, and all I could see was Donnie smiling and darting out the front door. This is the only time I back mouthed my mama. I had to bathe with the bar of gold dial soap with the dented corner that she floored me with for good measure. 👍This is exactly what I deserved and I am still very grateful that my parents loved me enough to make me mind.
This is like a movie you never want to end💯🙏🍿
Popcorn is one of a kind, literally. He was born in 1946. But the way he talks and describes what he had is like 1920 and if that makes no sense to anyone, I really don’t care. God bless all🙏
Now that I’m almost 60 I find myself telling stories on every bend of the local mountain roads to my kids just like Popcorn was doing. I guess maybe that’s why I like Popcorn. Time goes on.
Initial. 1qq
Fartcorn Sutton the aromatic legend
The knowledge this man had, it's amazing.
"If ol popcorn ever goes, they'll never stop talkin about him"...and there will never be another one like him.
He killed himself years ago
@@brandonmcclure4073 yeah, he sure did
He's been gone so your absolutely correct they even have a popcorn Sutton day and event every year for the old man god bless his soul
@@brandonmcclure4073 Popcorn didn't kill himself
@@joeknobody-gb3ct Yes he did
What a story he had to tell!So many memories!
It is very sad to see the place were you grow up and watch a change he said it as growing up unfortunately Good memories popcorn you are a legend
Just think wouldn't be a popcorn sutton without these videos thank for your work filming this outlaw.likker maker mountin man.rip Mr Sutton or sir sutton.
It’s amazing. Popcorn always had old classic cars. Even in the years of 2000’s. Those are still his vehicles. I wish I could have known Popcorn and shake his hand. Oh yes!
I just discovered this man! I wished I would have had the pleasure to have met him.
He was a pretty cool guy. Unique! He had a shop on side the road around a curve in Maggie Valley. I stopped in a few times and bought some of his homegrown peaches and tools. He was a funny, but very blunt story teller. Miss him
Heath N ohhh how fortunate you are to have had that opportunity... I like that he was a tell it like it is guy!! Are people allowed to see his resting spot? Like if someone was to go there?
@@HarleyGurl114 His grave is on his property in Parrottsville. His wife owns it now. U have to ask for permission. A few ppl in town there in the stores can tell u who to talk to to get permission, usually his wife Pam. They allow visitors on some days, not sure the days right off.
Heath N I did read that!! I shall have to do that once restrictions lift and we can travel again. Thank you for sharing with me. Just such an amazing story
@@HarleyGurl114 It a nice area as well. You'll love his foot marker 🤣. I'll also tell u another story. Popcorn was the best blade sharpener I ever met. U know how when u sharpen lawnmower blades, u have to balance them? He would do the balancing with his finger and I swear when i checked it later it was dead on perfect balance! He also sharpened a couple sling blades of mine and they r still razor sharp to this day. He was one of a kind and a huge loss
Popcorn will always be a good rememberance to me.
Love every sec of all of his BACK IN THE DAY WHEN !!!!! IF ONLY HE WAS STILL HERE . GOD HAVE HIM REST IN PEACE ...UP THERE WITH YOUALL..
Could listen to that dude tell old stories all night long!! Just the way that he tells them makes you know it was some good but rough old timers
Good old boy R.I.P POPCORN
Wish I could have met Popcorn! I met one of his nurses She said he was a good man!! RIP Popcorn!
Good ole days what happened good times 😊😊😊😊😊
He was super cool! A legend!
I would love to have one of the old vehicles, the sound is intoxicating
In the 20’s you can hear a new car coming from inside your house.
And also pollutes our atmosphere.
@@fjb3544 we do not care. LMAO
Don’t give a fly’n Gawd damn :)
@@fjb3544 Aint no worse than making an electric or a hybrid car.
I love Hemphill Rd. I loved the Car Shows at the corner of Hemphill and Johnathan Creek , that was where our friendship began . ❤️😭❤️🙏❣️R.I.P. Precious Popcorn 💜💕🛐
Love Jesus Trees! Merry Christmas 2020! Thanks for the trips! 🐍
Merry Christmas 2021
Jesus don't exist
Oregon logger much love popcorn I'm sitting got fire and yall know legends never die sand lot that sucker punch films thanks
Don't know why I find this interesting but it is damn interesting.
Why can't life be this way now but I try so hard to live a slow pace
As I watched through these videos on Popcorn Sutton, I have to wonder what the truck is he’s driving and from what year is the model? It looks like he keeps it in great shape. I hope someone can tell me. Thanks.
A 1940's for A frame
Listen how good that motor runs .
Amazing that old T can still make it up Hemphill rd
This is an A model, it makes loads more power than a T. A's make almost double the torque and have lower gearing so they can crawl up virtually any hill you put in their path
Ol boy lived it.
One of kind
I hear he took his life instead of prison. Someone in the fed govt should pay for bothering a old man. Shame on them.
worse part is he had only months to live due to cancer yet the judge gave him years to serve knowing full well he die in there in no time with the poor heath care they offf
Yessir that’s correct. Learning about him is a personal passion of mine as a new resident of Haywood county (about a year ago). I find new and cool information every time I look somewhere in the weeds.
He killed himself after being given a few days to get his affairs in order. He was to turn himself in after 2 weeks of being caught, but killer himself on his last day of freedom.
@jonsworld5307 his daughter confirmed the cancer story wasn't true.
A lot of painful memories!
love love love ... thanks for sharing
No anxiety here. Not afraid of life or death.
Too many bad memories to suit me, just like these mountains now, use to old growth forest and moonshine liquor, I can relate to Popcorn love ya old-timer
Does anyone that knew him know why he felt so hostile about his home place up in hemphill? Most people love to visit their childhood homes etc.
That would be interesting to know. Maybe I will ask mark and digger about it this weekend at the popcorn Sutton jam
@@RameyRocks if you find out please post it.
I've had no desire to go back and see the house I grew up in. A different family lives there now and it looks nothing like when I lived there. Nothing bad happened there, I just have no desire to see it. I suspect the same was true with popcorn.
He was faking it all.
He literally said why in this video, too many damn sad memories
So Cookie, Mark Ramsey's mother, was Popcorn's mom's sister? I'm friends with Cookie on Facebook. I've watched every episode of Moonshiners several times and I don't ever remember hearing that. Wow
Cookie (referred to here) was the also the nickname of Popcorn's cousin that he grew up with in Haywood Co, NC. He appears near the very end of "This is the Last Dam Run of Likker," playing guitar (in the hat). Popcorn was close friends with Mark's father, DC Ramsey in Cocke County, TN.
Popcorn is the man
popcorn always alive
Manual steering at it's finest
Super sad at the end he kept saying I don’t want to talk about it… but then you can see him try to take one last look
You don’t see that much any more. Lighting your cigarette with a cigarette 😂something I did when I was younger. Makes me feel old right a sentence like that
Your right he's gone and everyone is talking. Good luck Mr popcorn.
Iconic Popcorn.
This area belongs to us now!!!!
Resting in peace in Maggie valley nc
Sure wish he was still with us.
"All that's left of where I was born is an ol barn down here on the left and that's all I'm gonna say about it."
.
.
.
"We made likker in that ol barn for about 30 years. Never was caught."
🤣
I wish he had said more about it.
After watching this all I could think was how in the hell did that old mountain man acquire such a beautiful Ford model A 😆.
He was worth six million when he died
He made millions of his *Likker*
Put kids through college and all
I would go back to find that cigarette but he threw out just to say I had a smoke of popcorns cigarette once.
I remember doing roll backs
Does anyone know where are all the roads located at????
Maggie valley north carolina
Yes, I live here. All backroads of Maggie valley NC. Haywood county. Very rural culture.
He was a fun man
Popcorn Sutton just got to wait 1400 stimulus check = 8-gallon stainless steel still = work to do !
Only 8?
What do you suppose one of those Popcorn Sutton cigarette butts are worth now a days?
It's like the rough version of the movie Up.
RIP
I wanna know who it was that told on popcorn for having 800 gallons of moonshine on his property and he killed himself before he went to prison that is sad lost a good dude for no reason
No one really. Had a still fire and a cop seen the smoke and pulled up. When he got out popcorn said "now boy dont you go tell anyone what you seen here" and the officer called it in and it let to a bigger investigation by more than just law enforcement. That guy is now the sheriff of that county.
@@geneveillon1475 he got off on that one with probation but few months later sold to head undercover agent from dc that hard the story of the fire he should have left the Sene of the fire and they not knowed whos it was
My God if that ain't American then I don't wanna be...
those are Parachute boots popcorn sutton is wearing
Ok now i understands why he never liked going back to Hemphill and its sad
“An old barn, you’ll see it on your left down here and that’s all I’m gonna say about it”
Three seconds later
“We made liquor in that ol barn for about 30years. Never was caught. “
What damn road is it?
Hemphill Road
I'm saving up to move up there best place to live out on ur on and live off the land
Does anybody know why popcorn hated his home place?
Hard times I imagine,, been there done that as they say,,
@@duaneholcomb8408 I hear ya dude.
He says it around 4mins, that he won't even go down there because of too many bad memories
@@hunterhancock6752 I get that I was just curious if anybody knew of a specific reason why?
@@icehensley5154 well some folks don't like to go, back because they know. Its painfull to remember there old life there because its gone along with loved ones that ain't here no more. You can never really go back home. And some times for some of us we just rather carry on than go back to what we know don't exist any more. Don't know about pocorns situation. Yo Andy Armstrong guess what! You weren't the last one to take pictures or have an interview with popcorn. So stop going around saying that you were the very last and the only, like if you were someone special. You were far in between so quit your BS because there are many pictures of this man and yours are nothing special.
