Thank you for this information. Everything is definitely in perspective now. I am going to the mall today and just watch people and the attire they have on and kind of build a profile in my mind and find my true target for my brand. Thank you, again...
Dope video. I was a creative director for 2 decades working on various Fortune 500 brands. The biggest mistake I see people starting up make is that they design for themselves rather than a demographic. The people that get hung up on that and don’t evolve their brand foundation / brand voice to a specific demographic usually have a lack of sales. Art is obv subjective but in the saturated streetwear market you really have to design for what the demographic wants not what you personally think is cool. Once you make art that evokes that emotional connection w/ a specific audience all the marketing tactics become much easier.
The overuse of the brand color worries me now because I wanted to stick with black and white Perhaps I should use more colors but maintain the overall dark theme, somehow
Thank you so much for sharing this. I am in the early stages of understanding what a brand is about. You have explained it so well, much appreciated. Thank you
This is great, John. I agree so much with the idea of taking a smaller lane/target audience. You're just not going to beat out the brands that are going for the masses. I preach this with my SEO clients all the time, about going after a more niche set of keywords/customers.

Ive been watching for a long time and this channel has come far. The difference is really huge from the early videos compared to this one. Keep up the good work it will pay up one day.
A lot of things in fashion are cliche. Seeing graffiti would be inviting for a skate brand, neon forward colors, it's a vibe. Also, train tracks evoke a sense of mystery, journey, and usually the brown and green tones can be worked off of. I would say it really is up to your specific brand.
You are 100% right. I think the point I'm trying to make here is that too many people are doing it without actually giving it the thought you have here. Your attention to detail and being able to explain each element is what I'm looking for. - Mike Leisure

Successful business is a great logo and brand that the people your selling too relates too. Quality of the materials. I advise 100% cotton or wool. Quality is always better than quantity. Also your price for your product. If you’re paying $1 for a 100% cotton hoodie. $25-$30 is a great price. You will sell quick bc it’s affordable and the quality. Most people’s hoodies are $40-$50 with mixed fabrics. You won’t go wrong! I’m getting back into the clothing. I barely kept up with my orders the first time around. Things I know now I’ll crush it. Top notch points. I'm sure many of us know people from all walks of life. To get a better idea of what to create I will have to "study" what people wear (maybe expand on the idea as to why). Question for anyone; What's a quality design software program I can use to "mock" up designs to see how they look? As what's in the mind and whats in front of you so the eyes can process it and then again the mind can think on positive adjustments is very different compared to mass production (possible failure depends on where you are at).

Had to watch this again, dope video! Had a few more questions. Colors - if you’re starting out using blanks the colors can be limiting so what do you recommend as far as wanting to give options, or concern about always having the same shit? Planning - when you say build out the brand beyond the logo and colors, what does that look like? Is it coming up with different slogans that make sense for the brand? Different logos that make sense? Mascots? How you design your tags? Etc etc would be dope to do a deep dive video on this or review from another brand like Chinatown market. They use a lot of yellow, the smiley or peace symbol for ex. Essentials - it was hard to see what the designs said on your mock of the hoodie tee and hat, but are you suggesting that each piece have a different saying that makes sense for that collection vs the logo on each piece? Or is it the same slogan or logo for that specific collection for ex “Mondays suck” on the hoodie hat and tee for that one collection? Are you a brand - are you saying to only focus on selling to one type of person for ex the non preppy baggier skater? Some people who like a brand will wear a SnapBack and a dad hat another day so how do you take that into consideration? And if you are a streetwear brand not collection, do you stick to one type of silhouette that makes sense? Find your lane - people who buy into one brand might have slightly different lifestyles so how do you know who to design for, like what situations the clothes will fit into their lifestyle? Do you pick and choose or design for as many situations as your clothes can fit into that person’s lifestyle? Thanks, Mike! For ex some ppl wear nike because they are athletes and some wear it because they are into streetwear and just think the Check is dope or whatever the case.
what he means about being a brand is you have to have an identity that runs thru the collection and beyond. its an identity that informs every single aspect, marketng, your tags, how your wrap and ship your product, the language you use. You need all this to be a brand, but you can also just make a bunch of tshirts and start selling them without doing any of that. thats the difference between a brand and a person who sells clothes
