Evergrey is criminally underrated. Phenomenal band.
I had never heard of Evergrey until I saw them open for Iced Earth. Evergrey were touring Inner Circle & IE were touring Glorious Burden. I was blown away by how well these guys sounded live. After the show I hit the swag table up for some merch and it so happened that the guys were there as well so scored some autographs and had a chance to talk with them for a bit. Really nice guys, friendly and willing to take some time to chat. I have since added all the albums to the collection. Great band! One of my fav's

Sadly, most people have never heard of this band. And Henrik Danhage is one of the best guitarists.

Rattlepiece yes mate...
Henrik is good but he noodles aimlessly a lot. Thomas Englund plays with a bit more soul.
Tom plays from his heart constantly, but is nowhere near the technical skill of Henrik. I love both styles, however.
Somewhat, but the difference isn't as big as it seems. Still, having more technical skill when you just burn scales isn't as favorable than playing a beautifully composed solo with a few tricks. Henrik's old solos used to have better feel from what I've heard of the new stuff. That and he tends to repeat himself a lot.
Don't take that as me saying he sucks, he doesn't. He just tends to get lost being a self-gratified shredder where Tom does more justice to the arrangement.

Tom Englund, Evergrey's vocalist, is one of the singers of one of my all time favorite albums, "01011001" by Ayreon, I think its time for you to give a chance to Ayreon. I recommend the opening song of that album, "Age of Shadows", on that song besides Tom Englund you have some other singers you might recognize... Steve Lee, Daniel Gildenlow, Jonas Renske, Anekke van Giersbergen and Jorn Lande, pretty impressive line-up isn't it??? But it gets even better... the chorus of the song is shared by none other than Hansi Kursch and Floor Jansen... so what are you waiting for???

It is, and that's just on this song, other singers that sing on the album (but not on this song) includes names like Ty Tybor, Bob Catley or Simone Simons.

I totally suppport that statement. Ayreon has put out quite some impressive albums over the years and last year's "The Source" was my favorite album of the year, uniting the likes of Floor Jansen, Hansi Kuersch, James LaBrie, Tommy Karevik, Russell Allen, Tobias Sammet and the one and only Simone Simmons from Epica. No matter if you react to one of those songs, you really should give that album a listen.
His wife Carina has one of the greatest voices too

Evergrey is the band, they have emotional and heavy songs that transports you to another galaxy , so much quality and almost no one knows them here on Brazil , hoping for another show on Rio de Janeiro . Incredible video and review guys .
Glad you guys finally got around to some Evergrey, a band that has stayed amongst my top 10 favorite bands since I discovered them back in 03/04.
I hope you will consider doing something from their best 3 albums (which is considered their "golden age" since those 3 albums were released in order) In Search of Truth, Recreation Day, and The Inner Circle.
This song you did here is pretty good; however, this band can get quite a bit heavier than this instrumentally.

These guys are in a league of their own. Tom is one of the most soulful metal vocalists in the business. I saw them last year and got to hang out with them. Nicest guys you could ever hope to meet.

In Search of Truth is their best album and Solitude within. Those albums have very good songs.

Woah, Evergrey were done! I suggest their video trilogy Distance/The Paradox of the flame/The Impossible from their last album, wich is a blast with its mixture between amazing songs and beautiful landscapes from Iceland. A true cinematic experience, you'll love it.

Guys, you should add to your Swedish double-header day relatively young band Orbit Culture, their stuff is really cool and they'll release EP at April 6. I recommend you to react songs like Redfog, Saw, Sun of All.
Evergrey is a great band, and, coincidentally, one of the favorites of a certain tall Dutch woman, who, even more coincidentally, does a song with them called In Orbit :).
That will be the next one we do from them!
I did not know there where good quality live videos of In Orbit, everyone I have seen have had at best "meh" sound quality :/

He did mention in the video that it was a live video I think, official video is not a live video.
The woman's cry at the beginning reminded me of Mechina - Vanquisher. The band is unsigned and self produced with a type of music that is out of this word and lyrics and concepts of albums linked with each other and painting a better story than most recent sci-fi movies. Unfortunately they do not have any videos but I hope that you check them.

As many great bands you may have discovered here there are, I have to say that Evergrey is particularly worth really delving into. They are one of the most underrated metal bands out there. I know it sounds cliche but it really is true with this band. They are a band that has been around a long time (since about '98) and have managed to stay in the game a long time now. This song here isn't even close to as good as their best stuff. I personally find their newest 2 album sort of weak compared to the stuff they were putting out in the 2000's.

The Inner Circle is my absolute favorite; however, I would probably suggest Recreation Day for introducing someone to Evergrey.
The Inner Circle is more of a thematic/concept album about religious cults and their hypocrisy, and also sort of follows in the mind of someone "waking up" from the brainwashing from such cult. It is more "orchestral" than their other albums due to many of the songs featuring a string quintet in them. Recreation Day is more of an "every song is its own thing" type album; however, its still very good and tied for my second favorite Evergrey album with In Search of Truth.
In Search of Truth is fully a concept album and also deemed their most "prog" sounding album. The concept revolved around a person who believes they are being abducted by aliens on a somewhat regular basis. The story doesn't so much concentrate on whether the person is actually being abducted or not, but rather is more about the fear, anguish, and loneliness they go through due to the fact that in their own mind it is real no matter what.
There is band called Whispered. They are from Finland and play Samurai Metal. They play Power death metal using japanese theme.

Evergrey are awesome. I saw them the last time they were in Toronto. One of the best power prog bands out there.
If you want to check out a similar band, check out Borealis. They tend to lean a bit more towards the power metal side of things, but they just released a new album called "The Offering"...and they're Canadian! Check em out! :D

This is a good song, but there are older magnificent songs like More Than Ever (live) or Nosferatu (also live). I would love to see a reaction to those someday :)
