Dear lord, I've read some terrifying tales, but what do YOU think is the Most Horrifying Torture written by Tolkien? Perhaps one that's not on this list? Let me know in the comments!

Nothing compared to the torture Tolkiens works are subjected to in ROP. 😢

Glaurung's torture of Turin and Neinor was part of Morgoth's greater curse of Hurin and his kin.

Great vid, great choices, well done again good Sir!
    Some honourable mentions, if I may;
    - Thrain II, father of Thorin Oakenshield; Captured, imprisoned and tortured by Sauron in Dol Guldur, his last days were true misery. Even Gandalf's discovery came too late, for he was broken and mad by that time. Fortunately, he was at least able to hand over his map and key of Erebor to Gandalf, which Thorin made great use of (with a bit of Hobbit help).
    - The Oathbreakers of Dunharrow; Cursed by Isildur for failing to live up to their word in the fight against Sauron, these bound Spirits, many perhaps unwitting pawns in their leader's ambitions, haunted the "Path of the Dead". Never to know rest or solace until provided opportunity to fulfill their oath, Aragorn at last provided them the opportunity to do so, following which they were allowed to pass on to the halls of Illuvatar and rest in peace at last.
    - The Nazgul; Cruel and ambitious in life, these unwitting leaders of men were ensnared into the service of Sauron, only to become his hapless slaves, bound to millennia of tormented undeath with no will of their own, save that to which Sauron permitted. Only upon the final destruction of their master, were they permitted the release of true death and allowed to pass on from the confines of Arda to whatever fate they were destined by the will of Eru. :)

I strongly disagree with number 2. For me number 2 should be a tie between Gwindor/Gilmir and the fate of the escaped elves from Angband. Gilmir was once captured by orcs, and in the nirnaeth arnoediad he was brought before the armies of Fingon. His hands were cut off, then his feet and last his head. During this, his brother Gwindor could do nothing but watch.
As for the escaped elves from Angband, before escaping they were tormented by morgoth and made into slaves. They were forced to live and labour in Angband.
Those who managed to escape were shunned by other elves, thinking them to have turned traitors for Morgoth. Their only options were to either wander around Beleriand until they died alone, or return to the person who was responsible for their suffering.

Thanks for your reply and some strong arguments right there. Sorry that I decided for another tormet at number 2.

You missed Gelmir who was taken prisoner by Morgoth, tortured so badly he was blinded and dismembered in front of his brother and High King Fingon, Gwindor who had to watch his brother be dismembered and then been taken prisoner by Morgoth and subject unimaginable torment which left him physically aged, I think the only reason he escaped was because Morgoth had the foresight to see that he would come across Turin and take him to Nargothrond and conveniently lead to its destruction, and Celebrian who was kidnapped by some orcs and was treated so poorly, that by the time of her rescue, not even her husband Elrond could heal her properly and so sailed west out of trauma leaving behind everyone she ever loved. I'm not sure if I agree with Morgoth making it onto the list, but even with the emission of Morgoth's torment, this makes a top nine which I would have preferred.
Just thought of this now, King Thrain and King Earnur could have also made it. We don't exactly know what happened to them just that they were taken and I can only imagine would have been subject to unimaginable torture but since we don't really know what happened to them just that Thrain had his ring taken and eventually killed, and for that reason I'm fine with them missing the list

The most cruel torments and deaths were:
    1) The corruption of the Elves, Ents and all the creatures by Morgoth, and the slavery in Utumno and Angband.
    2) Hurin
    3) Fingon
    4) Gil Galad
    5) Finrod tortured in Tol in Gauroth
    6) Gorlim the Unhappy
    7) Gerlim
    8) Celebrimbor
    9) Celebrian tortured by the Orcs
    10) Oin dismembered by the Watcher in the Water

"Soor-ron" huh. That's gotta be on par with "Golem" and "Suh-roo-mon" for butchered pronunciations.

This is the problem with the whole of tolkeins work.we know that they psychologically and physically tortured.excatky how no one knows.just like many different aspects of the history.no one knows how orc?,s thats just one unexplained giant mystery of the storeies.never explains. So we basically know that morgoth and sauron tortured every creature in the stories both physically and psychologically at one point or another.the best one is glaurunds trick on brother and sitster .thats better than anything morgoth or sauron ever did
