Hamilton Beach 8-Cup Food Processor Review - 70740

  • Hi Guys, today I’m reviewing the Hamilton Beach 8-Cup Food Processor. LINK to Hamilton Beach 8-Cup Food Processor: amzn.to/1XBWffe It’s 15.5 inches tall by 10.7 inches wide and weighs a little over 6 pounds. It’s a mid-size food processor. It has 2 speeds and pulse control. If you choose, 1 or 2, the processor will run continuously. The unit has suction cups on the base so it shouldn’t move around on your counter.
    The unit comes with the base, plastic work bowl, lid, food pusher, chopping and mixing blade, reversible slicing/shredding disc and an instruction manual. The maximum amount of fruits, vegetables, meat that you can process is listed in the manual.
    This food processor is designed to chop, mix, slice or shred. Hamilton Beach recommends that you do not grind spices, crush ice or knead dough. I wouldn’t recommend doing those things in most food processors because that’s really not the purpose of a food processor. However, you can knead dough in higher end food processors.
    To put the unit together, turn the bowl clockwise to lock into place. Put the blade on the motor shaft. Turn the lid clockwise to lock. Put the food pusher in the food chute. Turn the machine to Off, the O and unplug it before removing the lid. Just turn and remove. Remove the blade carefully. Turn the bowl and remove. Let’s test the unit.
    First I’ll chop onions. Maker sure the unit is set to off before putting anything in the bowl. I’m using 2 medium yellow onions cut into 1 inch pieces. I’ll use the pulse function because it gives you more control over how fine you want the pieces chopped.
    Next I’ll puree 3 tomatoes cut into 1 inch pieces. The tomatoes are pureed nicely.
    Now I’ll slice a cucumber. I’ve removed the chopping blade. Place the disc with the slicing blade on top. It just sits on the motor shaft. Hold the blade on either side. Lock the cover. The cucumber will fit whole upto this point and then it’ll get stuck because the chute is not wide enough. It’s not going to fit bell peppers or apples. You’ll have to cut them to fit the chute. I’ve cut my cucumber.
    Now I’ll shred carrots. The carrots are slim and fit nicely in the chute. Push down with the food pusher.
    The removable parts are top rack dishwasher safe but I would hand wash in warm soapy water right after use. It is also light enough to move to a cabinet and take out when you need it.
    The Hamilton Beach 8-cup is best for people who want an inexpensive unit to chop produce and puree as well as make dough once in awhile. It’s not a heavy duty machine. The link to the Hamilton Beach is in the description below.

    Well done and very professional. Thanks! Saw this for 21 bucks on AMZ and you convinced me.
    The slicer/shredder may work better if you put it on the slow, continuous speed setting. This will also allow you to use both hands for feeding the chute.

    Thank you for this. I just bought this machine in the fall and I love it. But really appreciate the info on the slice/shredding disc. Perfect!

  • @chelastrayer7433
    @chelastrayer7433 2 роки тому +7

    You can easily place in or take out the disc by placing your index finger in one of the holes and your thumb in the larger one; they are not sharp. It is awkward trying to hold it off the edges. Make sure the machine is off before you do this; never, ever rush things.

    I was not expecting even diameter slices on an inexpensive food processor - this one exceeds many more expensive models.

    For around USD$5.00 more, consider the 70730 which has two cups more capacity AND the integral bowl scraper.

    I'm so very impressed with your review of the Food Processor. I've always hesitated in purchasing a food processor old school lady here. I wanted to make pie dough, old school lady with aging hands here so your review assured me that this inexpensive processor will do what I purchased if for and who knows I'm intrigued with chopping onions and tomatoes to make salsa. Thanks again!

    We actually just ordered one of these today. We decided on this one because it's so inexpensive. But I just decides to search for it on youtube to try to see it in action. Your video is excellent. Thank you! I feel like we made a good choice. Maybe it will convert us into food processor users and in the future we may consider a higher quality one.

    This is the one that I will be purchasing. I saw that it is the number one seller on Amazon and it has over 3,000 reviews. It has 4.3 starts so this must do a good job for most people. Thanks for showing how easy it is to use. I have a food processor, but it is very difficult to put together so I very rarely use it and have never liked it so I was looking for another one and I just found it.

    Notice the two finger sized holes on opposite sides of the disk? Well those finger sized holes are for your fingers! They're not sharp and only meant for picking up the disk. The ones I am referring to are the "two big holes" that she said one of her carrots fell through.

    I am confused since she didn't show it on camera and her hand was on the dial all the time when chopping , so do you need to keep your hand on the it for it to work, I thought you would move the dial to move to 1 or 2 and it chops on it's own and only need to move your hand when doing pulse . Can someone tell me if this unit chops on it's own without having your hands on it for it to work ? Thanks

    I just watched your video review of the Hamilton Beach 12-cup Stack & Snap Food Processor. I have the 10-cup version of that, and I love the wide-mouth feed tube, which this 8-cup FP lacks. I should probably use my Stack & Snap more often, but I find it more convenient to whip out my Magic Chop gadget (like those as-seen-on-TV "Vidalia Onion Choppers", but cube-shaped) when I need to chop or mince something for a recipe. (Slicing I usually do with a knife if I don't need much, and as for shredding, I don't do it that often; I'll use my Stack & Snap if I need to shred a lot, but substitute the mincing grid on my Magic Chop for small amounts.) As I said, I really need to use my food processor more often!

    Hi..Anyone had plastic bits in their processed food after the first use of this processor? I did find a lot of very fine black plastic bits in a dip sauce I made with this one.. made sure to wash it properly before first use, it seems it came from the internal part of the blade base that rests on the motor..

      Hi Deepshikha, you can make chapati dough but it's really not designed to knead the dough. The dough will come together as a ball but I would suggest taking it out at that point and kneading it by hand. It's best to make chapati dough in a stand mixer - you can watch me make it in the KitchenAid Stand Mixer here: ua-cam.com/video/uGE_uiofjbo/v-deo.html Hope that helps. You have a good review. However, Hamilton Beach doesn't recommend you do dough, but yet you did pie dough. I find this so conflicting because there are so many people who have used food processors for even bread dough I wonder why they don't recommend you need dough in this? It does a great job.

      This unit can process meat cut into 1 inch chunks. It is not recommended for kneading dough 😀

    These food processors are HORRIBLE My Hamilton Beach cracked its bowl while chopping hulled pecan nuts, I WANT BUY ANOTHER ONE FOR SURE The best one i ever own was a GE food processors had that thing many of years, UNTIL THE OTHER DAY, THE SHAFT WADDLED OUT THE SHREDDER BLADE THAT HOLDS IT TO THE SHAFT.. A sad day > that thing was about 20 years old, now i can't fine a replacement shredder blade for it : (

      Mine just came in today from Amazon. I do not like it and am returning it. I didn't use it. I noticed that it ONLY takes an itty bitty max amount of liquid. I need a bigger max amount for certain things I need the processor for, and this will not do. This was the whole point in part in getting this. Tiny batches of anything will take forever. I know, because my other brand is the same way. I could find nothing nowhere, online, Amazon, google about there being any max liquid line, so I got it for other reviews and took that chance. There are other cons too like not using it beyond 5 secs whenever you want to chop anything because it will be soup, even on pulse. Anyway, I hope others enjoy theirs. And this woman summed it up here in the video, good for the average Joe who doesn't use one that often, and has no high expectations.

    Hi there,great review,quick question here,does this machine grate hard cheese?,and can you use this machine to make bread crumbs and cookie crumbs for pies and cakes??thx you in advance:)

    • @bestkitchenreviews
      @bestkitchenreviews  7 років тому +1

      Thank You! If you're grating hard cheese like cheddar, use the shredding disc. For parmesan, cut into cubes and use the chopping blade. Yes, the machine can make bread crumbs and cookie crumbs. Hope that helps. Please subscribe if you haven't already :)
