Don't click "show more" as there are spoilers! Amazing video! Very well researched! Really cool you managed to track these down! Very cool to see disco ball being played! Back when I made my video I couldn't find anything at all so this was really exciting to see, even if it's super janky and probably best left forgotten. Can't wait to see parts 2 and 3! :D
Haha, I remember watching your video covering the flash games and you said you thought you might've been getting trolled about Disco Ball lmao. Honestly, I wish you were being trolled; that game is abhorrent rubbish! Cheers for the kind words pal. :)
I can't believe floor 10 of the first Super Monkey Ball Mini has been found! That's a nice discovery to close the game on! By the way, you should do a Super Monkey Ball iceberg video, if you want. I don't think anyone has done that yet and you'd probably do a really good one.
I'll maybe consider it... I'm not really one for hopping on trends like that, but if I feel like it and come up with something good after I finish this series I might do.
@@Goober13md Sounds good to me. I actually have created my own Super Monkey Ball iceberg on Reddit. I doubt it's the best though, although I haven't seen any others, expect one which didn't have a lot on it. I'm surprised SMB doesn't have a lot of iceberg following since, at least as someone who grew up with it on Gamecube and Wii, there's a lot of mystery to them, especially with the unused stages.
My mom had a cellphone that looked like a Samsung X 100 back in 2004 and I downloaded some games on it; one of those games was a really shitty top-down version of Super Monkey Ball, I think it was just called Monkey Ball. I've never seen anyone talk about this it's probably lost in the sands of time only to be remembered by myself and a few other people. I like the vid.
Yeah I had no idea these flash games existed and were official. I think Super Monkey Ball Mini is probably the coolest one imo. Can't wait for the next two parts!
Ohmygod Super Monkey Ball Mini, I definitely remember playing this before. This is probably the first time for me where I played something to then become lost media (but not it's been found I guess?) Honestly, I couldn't get past the first levels. It was so hard for me.
Thanks for your work on the wiki! Even if you think the article was half-arsed, without it I'd have never known Disco Ball ever existed. I'll have to take a look at the Jr. manual. Can't say I've ever read it so I'm interested to see what it has in there about the flash games.
@@Goober13md I removed that part of the comment because the edit I added to the wiki was talking about how gunter found super monkey disco ball, and I thought you figured out about gunter from that, even though you found out about it from somewhere else. AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, i was just watching your 'top 10 hardest stages in smb1' and now coming to this video you can see the absolute improvement in video quality it is fantastic to see. also have you seen the super monkey ball iceberg image?
Hahaha, thank you for the kind words! I have seen the iceberg image, yeah. No plans to make a video about it. I've got enough on my plate as is and part 2 of this series is taking way, way longer to finish than I anticipated.
If the next episode is what I think it is, then I only knew of one of them before this video's release and learned of one from the Discord server afterwards.
Off the top of my head, the only game not on the timeline i can think of is SMB: SE, which i think i still have on my phone, and that one peggle clone.
Lost obscure games? Time to get Nick Robinson on board. Just let him travel to Japan to meet one of the devs in person and come back with a copy of the game ;)
To be frank and brief, certain things happened that killed my motivation to continue working on this series. That said, I made a promise that I would finish it (eventually) and I intend to uphold that, but I don't know when that may be. I know there are people who've been asking for part 2 and 3 for a long time and I feel bad making you all wait so long, but I really appreciate yous bearing with me.
@@Goober13md all good. I remember seeing this awhile ago, and It got recommended again and saw you haven’t posted it in almost a year. Hey, it's nice to hear from you. Great work with the Wiki, it's been really helpful so far doing research for this series. If you add me on discord I can send over the .swf files to play the game in standalone flash. At the time it was added, the curation list for Flashpoint was pretty hefty so to my understanding it'll take a little while before it's added to the list there.
Great video! Is there a chance you still know the site to get the cursors? I try to find it but i only find icons and an ugly aiai hand that looks terryfying 😅
Deluxe is an extremely lazy (and bad) port of the first two games. There are so many annoying and completely avoidable errors with it - such as SMB1 floors with moving parts having terrible cycles, SMB1 Ice theme using Sky High music and SMB1 Extra theme using Ice music or Tub (level with a bunch of rising inclines) and Rising Inclines (level which looks like a huge tub) clearly having the wrong names - it reeks a foetid odour of devs not giving a toss. I have the Xbox version and play on an original Xbox and it controls terribly in comparison to the GameCube games and I've only heard the PS2 version is even worse. I mean, it only takes a minute of gameplay to see how SMBDX brings the PS2 to its knees. The vast majority of the exclusive levels are boring and not fun, a good number of which were clearly not designed to be beginner floors but were adapted to be beginner floors by adding safety nets so that you don't die if you fall off the obstacle. Super Monkey Ball Deluxe could've been SO MUCH better than it is if it had only had a little bit of care put into it, but sadly what we got was a pretty bloody shoddy port.
