Just eyeing up some different white oak trees in a random stranger's front yard...
    My Standard Workware:
    Carhartt Pants: amzn.to/2HAwrPK
    Carhartt Shorts: amzn.to/2FKRT46
    White Tee ("Stay Tucked"): amzn.to/2DuoARu
    Muck Boots: amzn.to/2HBWplQ
    Leather Boots: amzn.to/2pbV8vd
    Holster: amzn.to/2HAU8Y7
    Sheffield Pocket Knife: amzn.to/2penG6g
Well unfortunately the video cut off, but I think the point go across. Three different white oak trees all in the same front yard. Two are "true" white oak (based on leaf) and one is a swamp or maybe swamp-chestnut white oak. I've seen swamp white and swamp chestnut white listed separately or together, so I'm still not sure if they are the same tree or two different subspecies.
Anyway, the leaf is the true tell here. The slightly ovate but sawtooth pattern is true to a swamp white oak, whereas the deep rounded lobes are indication of true white oak. Now I mentioned post oak, which is also in the white oak family. However post oak have what I call a "fat cross", rounded lobes but in a cross sort of shape, instead of the drooping lobes like a true white oak.
Every white oak I know has a twisty branch character to it. Live oaks are a great example of that with their crazy spreading limbs that reach back down to the ground sometimes and then turn back up. But post oak to me tends to have a more blocky bark like I mentioned on the second tree, and post oaks for whatever reason seem to almost* always have a lean to one direction, maybe that's just here in east Texas. Generally a true white oak has a shaggy long strip bark, much like a shagbark hickory. And pecan will look similar with the shaggy white bark, but generally not as long of strips.
So there you have it. white oaks of east Texas in a nut...or maybe acorn* shell.

Still have the little dump truck. I finally got the turbo on a year ago but then the injector pump went out. Figure it’ll be at least $3000 to fix and it’s just not been a priority.
