  • This unique search & rescue vessel can be purchased and converted into a world-class expedition yacht. It was designed for operation in all-weather conditions, including ice . It can be converted in under 12 months.
    The project has huge advantages due to the base-line vessel being an ice-class, hi-speed (19-knot) hull with MAN/Rolls-Royce diesel-electric propulsion, retractable stabilizers and other advanced systems which match, or surpass, any new yacht build.
    The conversion package will allow a new owner to customize the existing interior space with a new layout and to finish the interior to suit his/her tastes and global mission. The vessel can accommodate a host of special adventure equipment for polar expeditions and all manner of expedition missions.

    Once I get the Lottery. LOL I will be heading to see you! No fancy interior, just usable and capable. This is exactly the kind of explorer yacht I would build. No need for guest cabins to be opulent and ridiculous. Those crew cabins are chain hotel nice. Just duplicate for guests. Add additional crew as stewards, a dive master, medical/trauma and build a medical bay and add tank/fill stations, and maybe a small submersible. Leave port and only dock to replenish supplies.
    One thing I noted missing, is solar panels and batteries. Every upper surface needs panels. Now to find a qualified crew that are willing to go around the globe over a 5-10 year trek.

      @clifbradley Рік тому +4

      You would be able to find crew, however a crew agency would require that you dock consistently and allow crew rotation or ample downtime and file your route plan. That's how they find crew. The nice thing is that you usually get experienced crew too. Dependent on size and flag state, you will be required to have the medical room amd qualified personnel. Plus I think it's just common sense. Some require a helicopter capable of 200+ mile range. Then you need crew for that. But It is possible. Mercato, Dorothea III, and Octopus all did it. Hope we both get it because I have the exact same idea. I even drew up the interior layout, or the 'general arrangement'. Gotta be prepared. Lol

    Wow! You're not kidding. This would make for a fantastic conversion and for an exceedingly reasonable price. I love the idea of the crew actually having decent private cabins, though I'm unsure of how much of that could be kept.

    It's a beautiful-looking ship to begin with and very high quality. Because it's not a PSV/OSV there are no grout or mud tanks to cut out. It's basically already an accommodation vessel.

    • @ExpeditionYachts
      @ExpeditionYachts  Рік тому +3

      True. Amidships it has a very large hydraulic lift platform for delivering the oil containment gear to the deck, and removing this will yield a useful protected space that can be utilized as an interior toy garage/dive center etc.

      I like the vessels like Lone Ranger . That to me is the tops not the conversation but just the general strong old school vessel . In todays age crew accommodations are actually quite nice I work on vessels and I must say the danish flagged newer vessels are very nicely qquipt

    I like it. We are in the Bahamas this week. For about two days I was thinking this catamaran was enough. Now after six days I’m wishing all of my hobbies were here.

    Great video thanks for sharing. Super vessel, the PE is all there and in ‘new condition’… very easy to apply the cosmetic touches & finishes for owner/charter mkt… exciting project.
    It will be fascinating to watch/understand what happens.

    My ideal yacht would be the Alucia, which is, now, Odyssey, on Fraser----it has hangars for a helicopter and a small submarine/amphibious vehicle, 6 state/guest rooms, a large saloon, a reasonable sundeck, an office/media room, a workshop, and a hospital. These are the standard requirements.
    Any yacht that can survive the worst weather, has a hangar for a helicopter and a small submarine, has dual or redundant engines, screws, and rudders, and is economical will do.
    This has very advanced systems, but does it have space for a helicopter and submarine hangar, and would it be able to refuel an amphibious aircraft with around 2,000 gallons of fuel?
    Both the helicopter(Airbus H-145) and amphibious vehicle(Sherp) are from 2 to 4 tons, with the dimensions available at wikipedia.
    The lightest Ice Class 2 or 1C or none at all is preferred because I just need them to survive accidental knocks.
    One can have the interior redone at San Lorenzo or Lusben.

    Its a really attractive proposition with many good qualities. The one aspect that does not work for me and this is just me, is the beam is fairly narrow considering the length.

    • @ExpeditionYachts
      @ExpeditionYachts  Рік тому +3

      If you want speed, you have to give up beam- otherwise you start chasing the power curve with more horsepower and more fuel.

    What is the range for this vessel?

    • @ExpeditionYachts
      @ExpeditionYachts  Рік тому +3

      It has room for extra tanks that would give it at least 5,000 nm range.

    I understand the sky lounge and doubling up crew cabins but I don’t understand the space for a main salon and dining room nor the space for the elevator and spa deck that you proposed in your heliskiing video version of this same vessel. Are those options still available in the Euro 20 M range? Would a hull vane extend her range by 15%+? The boat does have potential.

    • @ExpeditionYachts
      @ExpeditionYachts  Рік тому +2

      Yes, the heli-skiing version would require a build-out for more interior space. That would push budget up- maybe past €20 depending how fancy interior is. Interesting question about hull-vane. I think they would have to run some studies. www.hullvane.com/

    Can a vessel like this become nuclear power driven?

    • @ExpeditionYachts
      @ExpeditionYachts  Рік тому +3

      I don't see any reason why not- however, getting port clearances may be a problem. Probably better to look to hydrogen solutions that include the ability to harvest the fuel from sea water.

    Great presentation, question: How easy is she to convert into Class B passenger yacht class >13 - 36pax? Thanks for your reply

    • @ExpeditionYachts
      @ExpeditionYachts  Рік тому +1

      This hull is probably not large enough for more than 14-16 passengers, unless you can put 4 in a cabin. For a mini-passenger vessel, there are better hulls.

    @TheYachtChannel I know this is going to vary, but approximately how much would the retrofit/conversion cost given what you were proposing on this vid? Was just curious.

    • @ExpeditionYachts
      @ExpeditionYachts  Рік тому +1

      Conversions run $7-10 mil if you stay in commercial sector and avoid 'yacht' shipyards.

      @ExpeditionYachts  Рік тому +4

      The yacht yards are generally full these days and charge top dollar/euro. The sellers have their own shipyard and build very capable long-range commercial trawlers and seiners; and they will likely give best quote for this work. In terms of interior, the best value and delivery times will come from the companies that fabricate for the boutique cruise ships, and they can be found in Norway, Ireland, and Finland.

     @The Yacht Channel if you were going to build a new large ship, would you use an x-bow, axe-bow, or a standard bow for use in calm and rough waters?
