As a 62 y/o Caucasian Texas cowboy, I first heard a Teresa Teng song in May 2009. I was stunned, awed. I had to hear more, learn about her life, legacy. I found English translation to many of her Cantonese, Mandarin and Japanese songs. The more I listened, the more I realized no one ever sang like this elegant, lovely Taiwanese Angel. To me, Teresa Teng was the greatest pure singer in recorded music history. I continue to listen, touched to the very core of my soul. Teresa Teng forever, indeed.

I just want to say that I was lucky enough to have been born in the same generation as Teresa Teng's and to enjoy all her second-to-none's music. Her angelic soothing voice touches the soul of all her fans from all over the world and are befitting for all occasions. Thanks for your feedback. When I first heard Teresa's Night Fragrance, I went ahead and bought 5 CD's just for this one song. Several years later, I began to listen all the Chinese Oldies in the CD set and was stunned with her Moon Represents My Heart. Then I searched UA-cam and found some more and bought a CD/VCD set by TT. She is a born performer both in singing and graceful presentation. Unbelievable. She could bring all the States in our union together, perhaps even the world!

Both Teresa and Charlene had great voice although Teresa’s 1982 voice was much sweeter and silkier. Also I can not help to notice the presence of her breathing in between verses when Charlene sang it while Teresa’s rendition was so smooth. Perhaps I’m biased but it was after all 鄧麗君 who re-introduced me to this song last night after all these years.
Tracy Huang, originally a night club singer from Singapore, later in Taiwan, sings many English songs with perfect accent. For 3 decades, none can compare to Teresa with her charm, on stage presentation and sweet and "silky" voice. I remembered this song 「I've Never Been To Me」from way past but did not know that it was also performed by 鄧麗君 in 1982. Last night I heard Teresa’s rendition for the first time and liked it, which re-kindled my interest into searching for some background information about this 1977/1982 single by Charlene Oliver. According to Wikipedia, its first release in 1977 was a version different from the re-release in 1982, but both included the “spoken bridge”.

However, sometimes a smell, a sight or an old song brings the past flooding into the present and thoughts run wild. I just got back from a trip to Taipei and I heard a song of TT playing in a restaurant. Those old days came flooding back. But, you are very right...on with the future.
Unfortunately I have not kept up with her life at all. Of course, I realized how much I have missed. I can't agree with you MORE! There have been a few singers, who attempted to imitate Teresa Teng. Jane Zhang did a decent job. Tracy Haung (also born in Taiwan) sings many English songs well. Frankly, no one can get close to the level achieved by our One and ONLY Teresa Teng. Let us all enjoy her legacy of her wonderful music and videos. When I think of the tragedy of her loneliness and loves lost, the song seems too sad because she sang it especially of never having had a husband or a child like other women. Too melancholic and too painful. She should never have dwelt on all the sad things she sings about.

I have Charlene Duncan's version too. She was a one-hit wonder with this song. The song was from one of Jean Harlow's movies. She was like Marilyn Monroe during her time and sadly died at the age of 26 and Clark Gable was one of her poll bearers.

@cchpest There is another Charlene. I believe that Charlene Marilynn DAngelo was the one which made this song somewhat popular. I have also purchased a version online by Tracy Huang, a Taiwanese singer who first did night club performance in Singapore. Being a Teresa Teng fan, I like her's the best.
I totally agree with you. There have been a number of Asian female singers after Teresa Teng. Some are quite good. However, none of them can match Teresa's sweet voice and charm IMHO.
I don't care if she can't speak English (she has almost no idea what she is singing) - she sings phonetically - she still has a great vibrato and such a pretty voice!!!!!!!!!

She does understand the lyrics and therefore sang with emotions reflecting her feelings of the singer. Thanks for the info. You are absolutely correct that asthma CAN be life threatening especially in a place like Thailand. I forgot to give my asthmatic wife methyl prednisone (instead of using Albuterol neubulizer where the patient may NOT respond to) when we were on a cruise ship.. The ship doctor NEARLY killed her by keeping her awake for 12 hours (from a malfunctioning instrument which beeps every 30 seconds). We should forgive this French man, IF he has no medical training or knowledge.

I can't agree with you MORE! There have been a few singers, who attempted to imitate Teresa Teng. Jane Zhang did a decent job. Tracy Haung (also born in Taiwan) sings many English songs well. Frankly, no one can get close to the level achieved by our One and ONLY Teresa Teng. Let us all enjoy her legacy of her wonderful music and videos. She has such talents, handling the classic Chinese songs as flawlessly as many of her English and Mandarin love songs. John

While there are some people who have criticized any foreign singers such as our Teresa Teng not speaking English like a native speaker, her rendition as you have described so succinctly is typically smooth and sweat. There has never been another Asian DIVA, who can sing in so many different languages with such a sweet voice with great presentation skills and charm. Thanks for your comment. I can't agree with you MORE! TT easily out performed the original with all her charms and grace. In many other English songs, TT's versions present another dimension. She is just incomparable.
When I think of the tragedy of her loneliness and loves lost, the song seems too sad because she sang it especially of never having had a husband or a child like other women. Too melancholic and too painful. She should never have dwelt on all the sad things she sings about.
Yes.. The emptiness about having any materialistic thing you could have means nothing if you never had the most important things in life.. Being a parent and having a family. What lyrics .. Wow!!!

@fuzzypaws17 Teresa Teng. was so talented that there has never been another Diva since her unfortunate early death. We should all celebrate her achievements by listening and watching the vast legacy of her music generously uploaded by many of her devotees, e.g. HKships4TeresaTeng (also HKShips4TeresaTeng) and Masami43. Some old Indian fellow said "the outcome remains the same no matter what" in the film "Passage to India" many years ago. Hope that might sooth your feeling. All the best!

I have Charlene Duncan's version too. She was a one-hit wonder with this song. The song was from one of Jean Harlow's movies. She was like Marilyn Monroe during her time and sadly died at the age of 26 and Clark Gable was one of her poll bearers.

I am unaware that she had a French Boyfriend. Perhaps you should ask HKShip (George) who has extensive collection of Teresa's songs, career and life. For sure, we all miss her and the world has lost a great songstress, who is so talented and sang in so many different languages and dialects.

@cchpest There is another Charlene. I believe that Charlene Marilynn DAngelo was the one which made this song somewhat popular. I have also purchased a version online by Tracy Huang, a Taiwanese singer who first did night club performance in Singapore. Being a Teresa Teng fan, I like her's the best.

I totally agree with you. There have been a number of Asian female singers after Teresa Teng. Some are quite good. However, none of them can match Teresa's sweet voice and charm IMHO.

While she had only formal education of grade school completion, she has come to the US and studies English from the University of Southern California. She does understand the lyrics and therefore sang with emotions reflecting her feelings of the singer. The persons on the UA-cam who has devoted thousands of hours to make her legacy last, barring many deletions from the UA-cam for alleged copy right claims, are HKShips4Teresa (extensive collection of her songs in Chinese, English and Japanese) and Masami43B (a Japanese gentlemen who has the most extensive of her songs in Japanese PLUS his own artificial creation of Duets, combing Teresa's version with the original or popular Japanese artists.
There has never been a singer since her unfortunately early death in Thailand who has ever achieved the status, fame, grace, presentation and success as Teresa's. You may wish to explore the uploads from HKShips4Teresa and Masami43B for her other songs.
Teresa Teng has many extremely devotees and fans worldwide. From Texas to Finland and of course, Taiwan (her birth country) and Japan, where she made a huge success and enjoyed many fans there.

Thanks for the info. You are absolutely correct that asthma CAN be life threatening especially in a place like Thailand. I forgot to give my asthmatic wife methyl prednisone (instead of using Albuterol neubulizer where the patient may NOT respond to) when we were on a cruise ship.. The ship doctor NEARLY killed her by keeping her awake for 12 hours (from a malfunctioning instrument which beeps every 30 seconds). We should forgive this French man, IF he has no medical training or knowledge.
