You dont hook your finger around the line you trap the spool and line together otherwise unless the spool drag is tightened up it will slip the whole vid is wrong.
with the appropriate rod you'll do fine. I can reach out to 90/100m with a 2-3oz weight paternoster rig and 20lb mono. The Alvey up sides: - they are basically indestructible - mine is 27 years old - can take a dunking/sand/mud and just need a rinse now and then - very easy to service - hold lots and lots of line - can winch a shark up a cliff - relatively easy to cast well once you grasp the basics
Best surf reels on the planet.
Congratulations Alvey on your 100 years of operation this year.
One great Aussie company. Fish on!👍👍👍
Greetings from Australia. So glad you have found Alvey reels. I have one that is over 50 years old given to me by my dad and it is still going strong!
congratulations for the video! Please tell me if this alvey is right or left hand?
Right, they can be made/converted to left hand wind and cast using conversion parts.
What Alvey rod and reel combo would you recommend for SW Florida beach fishing for snook, pompano, etc?
My only reason I stopped using one is I like to fish plugs and lures.
Nice reel
20Lb line on a 7Kg rod??
Id like to see what sort of distance could be achieved by someone who knew how to cast
60m or more no drama
that rod looks like it's 40 feet long !
Seen Some of the guys in Australia do it

Can you cast light weights such as 3/4 oz. with these reels?
yes, use a smaller reel, light mono (12lb) 9-10ft Alvey style rod and they will cast very well.
nice reel
What size of line you are using?
for such a expensive setup they don't cast very far.
What are you casting with a rocket launcher
@@glenbuyer8738 I use breakaway tackle and rods.

You would be hard pressed to find a fishing rod/reel combination to match the cast distance of an Alvey sidecast with such ease.
@@stuxr6t I can outcast that with my breakaway GDX or hdx easily.
