Bad Parents are Suing Fortnite!

- Canadian parents are pushing the blame towards Epic Games for their child's crippling video game addiction. And the best way to do that is through a class action lawsuit. Yes, parents are suing fortnite because the game is too addictive. The lawsuit alleges that the game is too addictive and is leading to unhealthy gaming habits in children.
What has the world become man...
Also that fortnite W (aka victory royale for you newbies) was so epic, time to buy $1000 worth of skins!

I am from Quebec. And you are totally correct when you say bad parenting. It is a really big issue here - People let their kids do whatever they want, whenever they want. And they're too scared to do anything.
For interest, everyone is laughing at the parents here also.
I just think it's also the typical case of someone finding a breach and expecting to make good bank from it.

Honestly, I babysat a 5 year old over the summer and he was ADDICTED to Fortnite. It really changed my perspective on parenting, I was shocked at how neglectful the family was, they didn’t really punish him for breaking things, threatening to kill me and others etc etc. He was just a ball of rage, getting rewarded with his iPad and PlayStation so he’d shut up. i was so drained the entire summer I could barely keep my eyes open sitting for him, not even joking.
I asked him once and he told me HE GOT HIS IPAD AT 2 YEARS OLD. Does that not scream bad parenting? Like dude this is obviously having affects on not one but TWO of your children actually. They stopped wanting to eat and the 5 year old would constantly hit me and threaten to kill me.
The kid also has access to unmonitored UA-cam (and is on the bad side of it) and to make matters worse the parents had their credit card connected to his iPad and HE SPENT MONEY ON FREAKING SUBWAY SURFERS. He told me all about it one day and I was like uh you know that’s not free right? Needless to say he has no concept of money. (I asked what his mom did when she found out because I obviously told the parents and he said she said bad words or something)
He also broke into a house on my street. That was an experience to say the least.
They yelled so much their HUGE dog shook violently and crawled into my lap every chance possible.
There was so much more that happened I can’t fit here, but please, be a good parent and do NOT introduce your child to the internet :)
the fact the parental controls can do all that and the parents just ignored it
Yes and what is the problem with the taken away the console or controller. I don’t get it.
If parents take away kid's game consoles without giving them any other ways of having fun, it's not surprising they enter into a state of sadness. If those parents put in some effort into giving their kid alternatives to video games it will be way easier to get them off of their game addiction
yes the kid will either get sad and start hating you or they will steal it back (ive done the second one)

Can I just say, as someone who's gen z, it's truly bizarre.
What did these parents think would happen when they _make_ their kids play games every time they're bored from an early age so taking care of them is less effort?
Did they expect their kids to just magically hate video games, develop self-discipline and be productive when they reached a certain age?
No, it causes addiction because these kids were taught to rely on games _and_ that they weren't even allowed to do anything else!
It's really hard being expected to display life skills you were never even taught except by random people online.
But on the other hand, from a moral standpoint, I do hate companies, such as game companies, deliberately targeting children and making their products addicting to them. Putting kids at risk for the sake of capitalism is crappy.

Instead of focusing on blaming a specific game or company, it would be more productive for parents to address the issue of video game addiction in their children by setting clear boundaries and rules around gaming. This can include limiting the amount of time spent playing games, monitoring the content of the games being played, and encouraging a balanced lifestyle that includes other activities such as exercise and socializing with friends. It is also important for parents to educate themselves on the potential risks and warning signs of video game addiction, so that they can recognize when their child may be struggling and provide the appropriate support.

(3:40) The lawsuit does have one thing going for it:
- make the laws so that all credit card payment systems bust be _opt in_ for being able to make future payments without having to enter the details again.
This was an issue on Xbox 360, I never had an Xbox One, so I can't tell on that one. But if you make a card payment on Xbox 360, and it will save the card on that account automatically, and the only way to remove it is by signing in on the internet. So if you let someone else do a single purchase from your card on their account, they now have your card info stored.

Hm... A law doesn't actually do anything. The people who enforce the law are what do things. That's why there are judges.
Think of it like this - a judge is the monitoring system and a law is the rule that is being used to monitor the system.

The part I totally don't agree with is that "playing video games for an extended period of time is a bad thing".
For some of us, it's the only way that we get to, meaningfully, interact with friends and family that don't live right next door. Sure, it might be healthy to see grass a couple times a week. But when you can't just walk next door to pester your friends, gaming is a great outlet for everyone to do something they enjoy and to do it together.
Examples: Farm Together, LoL (though it's gotten so fucking bad over the years), Valheim, any MMORPG... you get the point.
Maybe parents should stop trying to distance themselves from what interests their children and find out WHY it interests them. And then maybe play a bit with them so they can bond better. Though not on Fortnite. Battle royals like that are so dumb and I don't even understand why they're so addictive.
Anyway... hot take - parents who invest in their children's interests and even play games with their kids have better bonds and are more respected.
I agree that playing games for a while isn't a bad thing, but when it starts to interfere with your life and start breaking your relationships then it's an issue. An example of this would be the relationship I had with my step-dad. He would scream at me and my sisters if we ever tried to interact with him in any way, and all we could do to spend time with him was sit near him on the couch and watch him play video-games silently. If he wasn't playing games he was sleeping or at work. He's since bettered himself since he's now a full time parent, but that behaviour never should've existed in the first place, you know?
Bro wrote a whole essay bc parents were being bad and suing moronically
No matter what, playing videogames for an *extended* amount of time is indeed a bad thing. they will not do you any better both mentally and physically in the long run, not just videogames but anything done for an extended amount of time will do no good, so while quick session of 3 fortnite drops with friends before bedtime is interactive and fun but if you do that untill 3am every single day it is addiction.
I see what you mean by "only way of interacting" with friends are videogames, i too found some people on videogames who are closer than people I've met irl, we don't usually play games nowadays but still are good friends (well, that can be different depending on different people) and let me tell you there are many other meaningful interactive things to do with friends. have casual conversation, discussion or maybe even a rant about why u hate bunnies.

What’s scary about parenting: Every decision is walking on thin eggshells and seem to require hours and days of research to find the right thing to do, and every decision can be controversial even between experts. A parent can’t simply destroy the computer/console and say “zero tolerance for video games”.
It annoys me that they go after games like fortnite for being “too addictive” while there are games that have P2W crates and wheel spins. *cough* madden *cough*

these people have no clue how addictions work. you don't rip an addict from their addiction and force them to go cold turkey, you have to slowly reduce the addict's access to their addiction and work on acclimating them back into a regular schedule and lifestyle. parents need to take a basic psychology class before becoming parents.

it is real , any person who worked or even dipped his foot in gaming can tell you this.

Parenting is a huge issue, but the other issue is we know that these companies know kids will play their games, and they exploit that just as much. It’s a problem on both sides.
I also hate that a lot of accounts require you to set up a payment method for things. A lot of parents don’t know you have to manually go into settings to remove the method after a purchase. I like Steam because if this. It has to confirm with you the payment method every time you purchase something, and even better, you don’t need a payment method to use store credit. Oculus gave me free store credit to buy a game in 2019, but it made me put my parent’s credit card information into my account in order to use said credit. It’s an extremely dumb move. I even let my parents know, so that they could remove the payment info from my Oculus account after I got the game.
Another method my dad uses is he has an app that lets him generate one-time-use cards, and he uses that for payment info instead since it’s only used once. However, some accounts like Microsoft have banned that ability.
Parents are the ones that need to correct the the kids lol, It's not fortnite's fault
