- How to find the best performing shop vac? I wanted to take a more data driven approach to try and find a way to test the different shop vacs or wet dry vacuums. A way to track a real difference in the performance of shop vacs from RIGID, Shop Vac, Vacmaster, Dewalt, and more. By measuring the CFM, Water Lift, and Air Watts, i can create a comparison chart to find out who really makes the best shop vac... ENJOY!!!

Numbers are nice to know ,but we want to see it do what its ment to do ! So vac up some carpet with water on it , some dirt would be nice to see it do !
Thanks Josh for the great video.
Brainstorming ideas here for the vacuum reviews…
Aside from precision measuring devices and ratings, (putting in my thinking cap here…) 3-5 practical application tests that can be completed. Vacuuming from wet to dry using a floor mat. Attachments and reaching difficult to reach areas, decibel levels when under load, in rush current using your plug in ammeter (alike the pressure washer videos).
Just a few but can think of some more if need be. More or less a series of standardized tests for comparison and capabilities and limitations.
Have a great weekend!
I have multiple vacmasters, purchased locally in my BJs wholesale club. Absolutely love them and they were incredibly priced
My Rigid 14 with 6.0 peak HP, a lifetime warranty, car care kit and your pool filter socks work great for me. Very good recommendations!
Thanks Josh for the great video.
Agreed. I have the same rigid. Own 2. The eldest (8 years) is running just as well as the newer one (2 years).
Durable plastic, and wheel castors powerful motor.
That’s great! I agree, for not knowing the exact numbers from testing but just from a pure user experience I absolutely love the rigids. I’m assuming the will probably test well with the gauges!
Purchased the Vacmaster Beast a few years ago. To say the least, it’s a BEAST! It’s a great little unit!
I bought a Karcher shop vac recently and I have been really impressed. I previously had an NXT Rigid that burned up from drywall dust.
Gotta use bags. I work in construction (painter) and ALWAYS use bags. I suck up drywall dust and paint overspray all the time and mine is almost 12 years old. Bags bags bags!
I've used a 5.0 peak hp shop vac for years, just recently upgraded to one of the 12 gallon craftsmans with a 6.0 HP motor and the difference in unbelievable. Even with the 2 1/2 in hose instead of the smaller hoses, this thing sucks like you wouldn't believe. I have truly been amazed at the difference.
I am so excited for this new series I love the “facts” of what vacs will actually do.
Thank you!!
Looking forward to more test, interesting, thanks Josh 👍😁
I have this exact same model but craftsman brand. Had it for many years and it still works awesome. I use it on the shop and for detail.
Awesome! Does that one have the retractable cord as well?
@@imjoshv yes its the same shop vac. Only difference is the craftsman is red and black. The craftsman model is discontinued model now. I checked online and theres also a kenmore model too lol crazy.
I run a few different ones. My full time job one is a Pullman Holt. 15 plus yrs old . Swapped the motor out 6 yrs ago . It's a beast . My home business i run a vacmaster wall mount with a 50 ft centec hose . Works great . I did put a sot bag that's made for the Pullman in it . Small bungee cord around the filter . No longer need to switch out filters for water . My mobile one is a ridgid 6 hp 4 gal with a 30 ft centec hose.
Awesome! How do you like the wall mount vacmaster? I have 3 wall mount units I’ll be testing out here soon but the vacmaster is less money so it could be a great option!
I was just looking at the fur real attachment! Thanks for the opportunity
Thanks for the video, Josh. Great review. Just FYI, it's been almost a month for the Rigid 4 Gallon 5 Peak HP with car cleaning kit is being sold for 105 dollars at Home Depot. You cannot beat that price for a great shop vac and car cleaning kit. That review will be great. I already bought it at a discounted price but would love to see what other stuff you can use it for.
👍👍👍
While your doing a vacuum series could you also look at deferent hoses to extend length and also is there a hose that is non marking on door sill. Is there a “Uber flex type ” hose for vacuums. I have bought a few and they did not work for car detailing. I have a wall mount and the hose seems so cheap and plastic. And it scuffs any thing it touch’s. Like door sills.
Hi Josh I’m looking for a air compressor what do you think is the best compressor for the money on the cheaper side,Just tryna get enough psi to clean interiors and polishing pads,Also to tell you the 10 Gallon Wet/Dry Vac Hart branded Wet/Dry Vac is very good as well
I will be following this series... 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Btw, theres a red color version of this i wonder if its the same model...
Cheers! Great video and series! 🍻
You need a link of all the products you use i wonder what compounds you use for polishing I always see the meguiars but I don’t know if you use it all the time
I would like to see you review some of the Westinghouse pressure washers, especially the small model ePX3100v. The Westinghouse pressure washers seem to get better ratings on Amazon and Home Depot than any other pressure washers.
Hey guys can we use the RIDGID accessories on this machine as well? please let me know thanks :)
Can you also test these as blowers (help dry the car)?
Yeah, I just bought that not long ago and the retractable cord didn't work from day one for me. I have mash the button over and over while trying to force feed the cord back in. Other than that I like the vac for the most part.
Me: Buys the typical rigid shop vac that a lot of detailers love (not the square one Josh likes).
Josh: Lets test all these shop vacs!
😂 of course!
Haha the rigid is a great choice! Again I don’t know what the numbers are yet but from an actual user standpoint I love those things!
@@imjoshv haha yeah it’s just funny how it works. The 4 gallon 5hp rigid with wheels is currently on sale at Home Depot for $105 including the car detailing kit, so couldn’t pass up that deal.
Give a try to the new hyper tough shop vacs. The 5gal 4hp is a little beast for the price and convenience.
Walmart right?
@@imjoshv Yes sir. Grabbed one a few weeks ago in a pinch & for $50 I was surprised. Have even paired it with the Rigid hose and a 30’ Centec hose and still impressed me.
Would the type of filter installed make a difference in your readings?
Yes. Probably not the lift number, definitely the cfm
Great question, I’ll check on that!
I think you could have dressed it up with the hangers it has to show how it stores things !
craftsmans or vacmaster ?
Get the beast
I’ll be checking it out!
All your numbers are great to know , However next time show the box longer , you picked it up and down in 1 second ,hold still !
Yea that’s a great point, I didn’t really test that specific vacuum enough. I think the main point for me was to sort out the numbers from the gauges to be able to set a standard measurement when testing all the vacs… I’ll try and do an update on this one later after I’ve used it a bit to give my user experience
Just in time. I need a dry/wet shop vac to convert into an extractor.
👍👍👍
Size of the opening is critical to calculate CFM. Looks like you used the default 2x2 rectangle on the calculator. Your CFM is way off.
i have the Vacmaster BEAST version 5.5 hp 5 gallons. it has no wheels. i for v the Rigid detailing hose and crevice kit for it. its absolutely better than that blue vacmaster. mine is black and yellow. It's super quiet, and the suction is better than any other shop vac I've bought you can't not test that one 110$ maybe cheaper
I'm gonna trust your review
Buy a Ridgid and be done with it
RIDGID
Great video. Pro tip, no need to play cheesy music while talking.
All talk no action, what kinda review is this
