    A truly magnificent video of a truly magnificent Regiment. I’m and old veteran now of 75 years old and I was a proud Queensman for 22 years. My happiest memories during my career was as the CQMS and CSM of C Company 2nd Battalion 1980 to 1983. They were the finest Soldiers that I ever had the privilege to serve with. They were nothing much to look at, but they were devilishly steady. They were to a man, soldiers, gentlemen rouges and hooligans, but they were my hooligans. The song and photos that accompanied the video brought back so many memories and that uninvited lump in my throat. Whether they were 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th Battalion men, because of their steadfastness and pride they made the Queens Regiment one of the finest regiments of our time and I will always give them my best respects..

      @@davidirving-james1043 Hi, I only recently in the last few years found out he was my Dad. I never got to meet him so wouldn't be sure on which company. I could probably find out though. I had heard rumours he had passed away but I can't be certain. I think he was from or had family in Tonbridge or Tunbridge Wells. I possibly have a half brother and sister that don't know about me. Have just been curious of late as to what became of him. If I find out which company I will let you know and if you can remember anything more that would be great! Thanks so much!

    I've had a Great Great Grandad who served in the Queen's Regiment in the First World War. Im applying to the Princess of Wales Royal Regiment (Queen's and Royal Hampshire's) this year which should be fun! I've heard rumours of apparently the Queen's Regiment is coming back with an alagamation of a few regiments?

      I was a Sergeant Major at the Queen’s Division Depot when Private Clark was killed in Londonderry. It fell to the Depot to provide the funeral party for his burial at the Military Cemetery Shorncliffe, Kent. As the senior Queens Regiment Warrant officer I was directed to organise and provide the soldiers for the Bearer and firing parties along with the route liners. Every Queensman at the Depot volunteered to take part and give our brother soldier “ Panda Clarke” the finest military funeral that he so rightly deserved. Englishlee 77 please rest assured that we sent your friend to his God like a Soldier. It was a privilege to be able to give him that final honour as a fellow Queensman.

    • @englishlee77
      @englishlee77 2 роки тому

      I'm glad to hear that, . He was best mate's with one of the lads in my section so I got to see and chat with panda. . It was if nothing had happened in the battalion, as to addressing and honouring them.
      Even the IRA memorialized it's personal and the loss of comrades.
      I'd just got out the jail when Al Stock was murdered, the only thing I know for sure about Al's funeral is his drill Boots were fucking immaculate because while serving my sentence under section 42 of the army act 1955. I did up his parade Boots for a couple of cigarettes ( or contraband) to the R.Ps inbetween doing the RSM s and the regimental Sgt clobber. I know he never used them before his death, so getting another 4 days on-top of my 28 for the contraband I got caught with wasnt so meaningless after all.

      What was the name of the Provo Sgt when you was at the depot, ? I'd like to thank him for something he did for me. And my brother was a instructor there at that time also,. Cpl Colin Budden

    • @davidirving-james1043
      @davidirving-james1043 2 роки тому

      A reply to englishlee77. Thank you for you two messages and their heartfelt contents regarding Al’s boots. It sounds as if you were a real soldier, the type of man that makes the difference between a true mucker, and just another “Tom” in the section. I started my career as a Queens Own Buff in 1963 so I value your “STB”. I was CSM of C Company 2 Queens in Colchester 1980-83 and I still keep in touch with many of my old soldiers who I know were just like you, real soldiers. I had a fabulous OC and what made it so special was that we loved our Company and respected our soldiers. I went on to be Commissioned but I never forgot my roots as a Private soldier. I visit the military cemetery at Shorncliffe often and take timeout to stand for a while at the headstone of each Queensman who rest there. I’m afraid I cannot remember the name of the Provo Sgt you asked about, sorry. I started my life at the Depot as a Pln Comd ( Quebec Pln) and remember a Pte Murphy very well, he did go to 2 Queen’s in Londonderry, a fine soldier. I was then moved and became the Trg-Coord WO, the name Budden rings a bell. By the way when I was an RSM I never allowed anyone to clean my kit, that was my job. Cheers and STB.

    Northern Ireland is under British rule. Unionists want it to remain British; Republicans want it to join with the Republic of Ireland (a separate country). The 2 sides were (and technically still are) at war with each other (guerrilla warfare)... British Army is posted out there to keep the peace. There's obviously a hell of a lot more to it, but that's a just a few lines to give a brief overview.

      Ireland was part of the British empire.so Brits set up shop and became the wealthiest and ran most industrial and commercial companies. Now, most British are church of England, Protestants. And Ireland is predominantly Catholic. So the Protestants got all the jobs and the better housing and the Catholics
      Who wanted a British Free Ireland got nothing from the British government. This led to the Irish republic army IRA being formed to fight against the invasion. . 1916 was the Easter uprising where the IRA attacked the British in Dublin. (The song Zombie, by the cranberries cover's this event).
      During this time the Protestants started forming their own paramilitary groups to combat the Republicans. So the British who now had high stakes in the north of Ireland and the Belfast dockyard and hundreds of thousands of British generations, loyalists to the king and country, it decided to claim the north of Ireland as British territory, by dividing it's stolen land, ( no different to what happened right there in America, and the first Nations)
      ONLY THE LAND WENT FROM ONE THIEF TO ANOTHER THIEF. AND THE INDIAN'S GOT HOSED.
      Anyway the uproar from the Catholics in America, financing the IRA, against the British because they are on land that they invaded and miss treating it's real citizens 🤔 .
      Not a thought or a mention about the stolen land and genocide against the Aboriginal people who's land they use to make and send money and arms to the IRA, the righteous movement of one Ireland for the Irish,. How about one North America for the rightful owners and the FIRST Nation people. Just saying.
      Getting back to the troubles.... The North became Ulster, The Red Right Hand, governed by the British government. The South was once again a Republic with its own government. Open borders and freedom to choose when and where you live, or travel.. . Now before any of this came close to happening,. There was wars and battles on the potato famished lands of Ireland, between the Catholics and Protestant population. King William of Orange defeated the Catholics at the battle of the Boyne in 1690. Is commemorated by the Unionists to this day and is why the Orange sash is worn by top Ulster men and they have their own society clubs world wide, called orange Lodge's.. he reigned over England, Scotland and Ireland, and was Protestant, oh and did I mention, Dutch. . Catholicism and all that came with it to the British shores by Kings and Queens of every European country wanted to rid our land of its Protestant religion and the English language. So this is why the British are not so much proud to be Protestant but proud not to be Catholic and stand behind our monarchy and the Union Jack 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🇬🇧👉🥊🤚.
      So getting back to the start of the troubles. It's down to civil rights,. The marches by Irish Catholics living in Ulster, the land that was stolen from them, for equal opportunity that the Protestant population was not giving them and better living conditions. So the Unionists and the British Ulster citizen's along with the law enforcement, mainly hard line Protestant employees, stopped the peaceful march and attacked them . Londonderry 1968 . This led to an uprising within the Catholic population over the next few months. Which led to the Ulster paramilitary and some hard core prods to evict and burn the minority Catholics within its communities.
      Civil war within Ulster between two different religions was inevitable so the British army made up of both religions was deployed to Belfast and Londonderry to stop any form of criminal behavior and protect Live's by policing the police and the prods who were uprising against the smaller Irish one. Welcomed with open arms by the Catholics who were glad to see the army on the streets running things without the oppression of the royal Ulster constabulary RUC . Or the B Specials,. Who were feared and hated by the Catholics.
      So that was how it started.
      Republicans wanting their independence from Britain.
      On its own forefather land.
      How did the troubles begin in the American Revolution, ?
      Republicans, or Patriot's wanting their independence from Britain,
      Only they wanted all the stolen land to themselves and bring slaves to abuse and dehumanizing another culture to the shores of another culture that they invaded and committed genocide on . Built it's empire on Rights, constitutional rights, reserved for every person who is welcomed to America, the land of the Free,. .. 🗽 and financed by the white establishment, who's forefathers helped establish a constitution that was written in the blood of native American INDIAN'S and the sweat and tears of the African Americans who's forefathers never had a choice as to where they settled.
      The white establishment didn't want the people who are the rightful owners on it's Free land and now it doesn't want the people it stole from their homelands and bought them to it's god-fearing Law's of the (other guys) land.
      Anyway. Good luck with your troubles in occupied America's
