As hard as this is to watch, I love how Leah acts in this episode. She knows Matias won’t change and will probably hurt Libby, but she doesn’t try and make Libby think that. She can only temper her expectations and know that she’s done all she can to prepare for the hard parts of life.

Leah is such a great mom, libby needs her in her life. This is what i like about this show too, while it has its goofy and fun moments, it isnt afraid to talk about anything serious, which is why in my personal opinion scratch andrea and libby are much more intresting characters than molly, yes its probably an unpopular opinion but hear me out.
Scratch has received amnesia after his death, which is rlly shocking considering that the other ghosts that theyve encountered still have their memories when they were alive, and scratch is extremely depressed after remembering his long lost friend.
Andrea didnt feel like she was getting enough attention from her parents, which is why she was such a jerk back in season 1. This actually shows that andrea has some anxiety problems like libby, albeit she copes with it in different ways. Heck she still might feel obligated to impress them just to feel appreciated. If you remember from the valentines short they made, it was hinted that andrea was gay, and i can see them making an episode where she would be terrified about coming out to her parents.
Libby, oh poor libby has been through so much throughout the show, shes been humilated, treated like garbage among her peirs, was hurt and knocked out countless times, had an ex friend ghost her, and also has a neglectful parent, but unlike andreas case where there were points of her parents caring for her, and even more so after molly helped her, libbys dad isnt as caring. And you know what, her dad might be responsible for her shyness and anxiety due to him not being there for her. But unlike the previous 2, libby isnt miserable or brings down others because of that, she is kind and loyal to others which i have to appreciate her for. Libby is the most grounded character in the show and is probably the character that most people will relate to, i certainly do.
Molly doesnt rlly have that mcuh going for her, shes just another mabel pines, shes likable yes, but when you get a story with her its mostly the typical kids moral, unlike the others who delve into more serious topics.
Honestly im impressed with the show with how it handles its episodes topics and morals, it deserves so much more praise thaan it gets

@@stevenmosco20 I mean, the only thing I find interesting (not to mention entertaining) about Molly is her moments of going completely insane when things don´t go her way, which she most likely got from Sharon, but that also applies to a lot of sweet happy bubbly characters having a ¨dark side¨ in media, not to say that´s a bad thing, still she is not nearly as interesting as Scratch, Libby or Andrea.

This hit way too close to home. My dad used to work on a series of cruise ships. He’d only ever spend time with us when he was on land, and it wouldn’t be long before he’d be at sea again. I feel like he cared more about himself than being with his family. Then he met his second partner, and a few hours later, he told my Mom it was over during a phone call. Everything that happened after that was just like this. Moments I don’t want to think about, but can never deny they happened. Visiting someone I can’t connect with and who doesn’t understand me. Not to mention he traumatised me as a kid. I’m autistic and a sensitive soul. I don’t like being shouted or roared at. I also strongly disapprove of corporal punishment. He used to spank me for things I sometimes didn’t understand were bad, and therefore I didn’t understand why he was physically attacking me.
Leah is so like my Mom it hurts, and the worst thing is I struggle to fully realise it. I didn’t write this explicitly to seek attention. Just sharing my story, as I strongly relate with Libby here.

      I actually agree with Bunneh.
It would have been better for the dad to _NOT_ contact her, than to tease her with the idea of finally re-entering her life, only to snatch the rug out from under her.
If he truly meant to reconnect with her, he would have ditched work (temporarily) to do so.
However, I can understand why the dad may have wanted to avoid contact altogether, because there appears to be an unmendable break between him and Libby’s mom.
What they probably needed, especially Libby, was a 50/50 agreement where the child spends time with each parent. Both parents need to make an effort to be in the child’s life. Even if they are not going to be in each other’s.

As someone with a dad who is just like this, I'm really happy that kids are seeing neglectful fathers portrayed like this. Hurtful people don't always look like hurtful people. Libby's dad smiled and laughed and hugged her and he puts this front like he's a great dad, but the issues go a lot deeper. That's how clinically narcissistic parents are. Hopefully, episodes like this will teach kids not to dismiss their own hurt feelings because their dad doesn't seem "mean enough"

Libbys dad comes to her house much to the shock and bitterness to both libby and her mom. He said he decided to come home and wants to improve as a father, with both of them being apprehensive about this and thinks he only came back cuz he needed them for his fame and is only lying to them. Molly and andrea came over to hang out, with libby still having a bitter expression and explains to them about the whole situiation, while molly is hopeful that he has changed, andrea would be even more bitter considering that her own father was barely there for her and would sympathize with libby knowing that her father was (and still possibly is) much worse. Despite the ghostly elements of this show, it can be surprisingly real at times, like when the Mcgees' big hospital bill ate into their finances and they became homeless. That's why when I read the synopsis for this episode, I groaned because I was sure how this would turn out. And it's bad enough for ANY kid to have to go through this, but someone as sweet and innocent as Libby having to deal with it just broke my heart.
At the very least, Libby has a great mom and wonderful friends to be there for her. Plus, I like to personally think that eventually, Matias WILL come around and want to spend time with his daughter....and by then Libby will have forgotten about him and be living her own life. Cat's in the Cradle.

No words can describe how this scene tugs at my heart. No words can describe how this scene reminds me of my own relationship with my father. He was never there for our family. He didn't want to spend his time raising me or teaching me anything. He always went away on trips just to avoid taking care of us. All he really cared about was going bird watching. Going away was like a vacation for him. We always seemed to have to remind him when birthdays were. He even forgot how old me and my sister are. When I went to college we had to actually ask him to help pay for tuition. To this day we have to keep reminding him to help out. We shouldn't have to do that. He now lives in England. I don't think I can ever forgive him for his negligence or his mistreatment towards us. However for good or bad, I am who I am because of him.

There are several ways they could take this sub-plot. Given a main theme of the show is personal growth and change, Scratch learning not to be so lazy and selfish and connect, Libby overcoming her insecurities, Ollie changing his perspective on ghosts, Andria getting over her ego...well she's working on it...but my point is the most thematically consistent direction for her dad would be him learning what parental love is and connecting with her.
The catalyst may be Libby's book, that might have been her articulating how much she misses him in the story and that if he reads it, it could sting deep and make him reflect.
Another thing they could do is as he wants to build his celebrity brand his publicist points out him being a neglectful farther is not a good look, so he reaches out to her to bound purely to look good, giving her loads of attention to take photo's, using her, but in the process starts to actually connect with her resulting in either him walking away from the fame or him being found out and Libby not believing he was starting to care about her and there being an strained ending where he promises to take things show, no cameras, not lavish situations etc.

You’re close, but slightly off. Andrea’s parents are _neglectful,_ not *deadbeats.*
A *deadbeat* is someone who owes money or has borrowed something, and is actively evading restitution. These are your common “dad went to the store to get milk” fathers; they got your mom pregnant, then dipped out, aren’t paying child support, and aren’t trying to help your mom with the cost and effort to raise the child.
A _neglectful_ parent is someone who is avoiding other duties a parent has to their child; namely, attention, care, teaching (empathy and kindness) and patience. An example is *Vacho* from the movie _Flamin’_ hot; although he made sure his children were fed and sheltered, he was abusive and demoralizing to his son; even into adulthood.
Andrea’s parents are the opposite of deadbeats; they provide her with not only her needs, but also her wants, and honestly spoil her a bit too much. They are neglectful though. There’s more to being a parent than just supplying.

This absolutely hits as someone who also had a dad who rather prioritize other things than his own kid. Which it took him so long to realize it, that he ended up on his death bed and there was no time left.
My own dad gave up everything, just be to young and mess around.
He gave up in being a father and husband.
If your parent, doesn't matter which one, rather than being without whatever they put into the world, then they aren't your parents and you don't need them. You deserve better. Don't let them bring you down, because you can always have a whole life ahead, and they only have so much time left until they realize, there is no way to go back and there isn't much time left.

I just wanted any excuse to see her and show my friends how great she was but more often then not she never showed up. It got so bad that I stopped inviting her since I had a breakdown last time. My friends started placing bets as to whether or not she’ll attend my graduation but she just moved out of state so probably not 🥲 but through it all my adoptive moms have been there at all my events including ones they didn’t really need to come to. I'm a guy who's loved by both my mom and dad, but my mom died 11 years ago when I was 17, almost 18. I am the older child. I had a good mom, but she smoked, drank so much pop, and was usually lazy. She would have bonding time with me and my younger sister. But she had a mental illness in my eyes, especially when it came to cigarettes and laziness. She may have done things that are unhealthy, but she was a loving mom. I love her and miss her. I'm still depressed about her death a lot sometimes every day. I spend a lot of time wishing I could've saved her from dying from cigarettes and sickness. My mom was a pretty woman. To this day, I still feel sad that she died. But my dad is still alive, and he loves me as much as my mom did , and my sister and I care about each other. My dad is loving and misses our mom, too. My sister and I are adults now and still loved by him. It's hard when someone you like or love dies. It's hard when either one or both parents don't care about you. Thank God my parents weren't that way. I'm mildly autistic, so that makes it harder for me to recover from her death. I had my mom for almost 18 years of my life. She was 38 when she died, which is young. Even when I'd argue with her or my dad, we still loved each other. Same for my sister. All children need both parents, one mother and one father. All children need love, especially from foster parents to step parents. Grandparents, too. Aunts and uncles. Most importantly, the whole world needs God's love and warm embrace.

Just a few months ago, he'd talk about how he visited my town 2 weeks prior and went to see my brother, knowing that I live 20 minutes away and I only find out about this as he's telling me the story, like it's totally casual and normal to completely pass my house and not visit me or let me know that he's even in town. I haven't physically seen him in years but my younger siblings get to spend time with him on their summer vacations. As the adult daughter, I've just been forgotten. And yet, every now and then he calls me to talk about his life and ask how I'm doing, like once every 6 months or sometimes once a year. I just don't get it. Why even bother calling me. Why can't you just let me forget you, instead of opening my wounds and confusing me every time you call me out of the blue. I just want to understand why people do this.

Have you let him know any of this personally? I don’t know your family situation, and I’m in no way justifying your father’s actions, but sometimes people are just so dense and oblivious that sometimes it takes someone to outright tell them what’s been bothering them to get them to listen and maybe realize what they’ve been doing wrong.
If he doesn’t listen and still remains oblivious by then, then he’s definitely a scumbag.
I’m only saying this because I’ve had similar issues with my own dad my whole life. Rather than ignore me, he’d treat me worse than my younger brother, always get grouchy and annoyed every time I open my mouth around him, tell me to just keep quiet and say “okay” as a kid to keep me in line, diminished and put down my interests…
It took me until I finally just broke down in my twenties and just exploded every single issue I’ve had with him and the relationship I wished I could’ve had with him growing up that he finally started to slowly but surely change.
Things still aren’t perfect, and old habits come back sometimes, but we’ve both been trying to do better.
It’s helped me learn that sometimes people need to be told straight out rather than hope and assume they’ll act the way you want. Whether it’s with a friend, a parent, or a partner.
If they’re a bad or neglectful person, then they’re bad an neglectful. But sometimes you don’t fully know that until after you’ve tried hashing things out.

I know there are a lot of people judging Matias for being more focused on his career than Libby. But take a minute to think. If he didn't care or love his daughter at all, would he actually went to see her, hugged her, wrote a message in the book he gave to her or even accepted her gift? Honestly, I don't think Matias is a horrible father. He's just very busy and focused with his dreams that he doesn't understand that Libby needs him. After all, he's the reason why Libby wants to become a writer too. I don't know what is yet to come, but I hope that one day Libby and her father become truly close to each other as family.
Until that day, Libby will value the family that she has now more than ever, like her mother and her friends.

Hey everyone you know what sucks even more it's later stated that season 2 of the Ghost and Molly McGee is it's final season. Meaning we'll never know if Matias ever came back with a change of heart for Libby. Meaning this is Matias ONLY appears in the show. So all we know he's an author and a sumbag. Sucks we never got a better conclusion for him.

I like the Mother and Daughter bond between Leah and Libby respectively, it shows in this episode that Leah takes really good care of Libby. I just wish Libby had a better father who would care more about her than how well his books are selling.

I hope this isn't the last time we are seeing Matias Torres. A major theme of The Ghost and Molly McGee is making friends with people who you previously thought weren't friends. Like Andrea and Molly became friends, and Scratch and the McGees became friends. So I would like it if Matias came back into Libby's life. He doesn't need to get re-married to Leah, he can just have better relations with Leah and Libby.
