Man..... How awesome it would be to one day be able to hunt whitetails with a real self yew longbow! One day I'll be able to afford one of these beautiful masterpieces!! Until then I'll just continue to enjoy watching you and your Dad make them!! 🏹🏹🏹🤘🤘🤘 Love y'all's work!!
Great video, glad you did the self bow, I am planning to make several of them soon from Pacific yew. Several questions I had just got answered, Looking forward to more.
Thanks for the kind words, really appreciate pleasant comments! Good luck with the project. Have you seen my bowmaking website. www.howtomakealongbow.co.uk
Really nice to finally see this done up close! I thought ideally you'd want as less rings/feathers/spearpoints as possible (but then it would never taper down to the ends?), but maybe I'm confusing it with arrows...
We move the handle off center, this means one can place the arrow nearer the center when shooting, if you imagine placing your hand on the center line of the bow and then placing an arrow above your hand you will be shooting the arrow well away from the center, so we move the handle down a bit, this means the top limb is slightly longer, but you will be shooting nearer the center. I hope this makes sense.

I wonder what type of tools were used back in the day to make these before they were used just for sport.
In this video we show some of the tools from back then...ua-cam.com/video/UCf2taviIbE/v-deo.html
Absolutely great video! Will use it as guidance to make my own yew English longbow (using self-made ash)!

With how much material you use how do you ever make a bow above 30 pounds
each bow we make is made to order, so we use what we need to make the weight required for the customer.

There you go, you learn something every day.
Eager to watch the tillering! Can you mention how you and your father sharpen your scrapers? I've heard several methods...Thanks
Hi, no problem, I will try to remember to include it...have you seen my new website? www.howtomakealongbow.co.uk
Why is the bow laid out with the top limb 1 inch longer than the bottom limb. Can you do a video on marking out a bow
