The teardown and explanation is always satisfying to know... it's not just about solving a puzzle but how it works inside, that is also a puzzle! And... The disassembly and reassembly is also a puzzle... What you have there is a puzzle within a puzzle within a puzzle! How cool is that!?
I am all for teardowns, and would love to see more of them. Who knows, that might make puzzle makers also think about making that sort of stuff easier. It only increases reparability and the longlivelyness of the puzzles!
Longevity?
Love the relentless teardown to see how the mechanism works.
I love the teardown. Every puzzle I own, if I can't easily see it's secrets, I open it up.... Just as long as it won't permanently destroy it
It was very exciting for me to see you solving this puzzle, especially because I was the one who recommended you this puzzle 🙂.
I never expected that you would unscrew the mechanism part!
And I can confess to you, after being able to open my Planet Box, I also was frustrated that the mechanism was hidden, so I also, with a lot of effort, managed to unscrew all 14 bolts, to see the mechanism. I made pictures of the mechanism and screwed the box back and was also able to get it back in the original state.
I found this mechanism very clever and intriguing, because every time you put it back in the unsolved position, you have to start all over again solving it 😀
i appreciate you opening up the puzzle. and yes, i agree, they should make it so the mechanism can be seen once the puzzle is solved.
Love that you go the extra mile to show us how the puzzle actually works. 👍
Of course he wanted to see it for himself too
I have notifications maxed and this is the 1st video by you I have gotten a notification for in 7 to 8 MONTHS.
🤔
Really liked the double locking mechanism just a final tease before you open it and wow on the button with the disc cutouts oonce you open the puzzle thanks for the demolition I mean disassembly of your puzzle
One of the best videos love seeing the mechanics of puzzles
The teardown was the best part of the solve. I'm so glad you didn't give up. It would have driven me crazy not to know. You never disappoint.
honestly seeing how the mechanism works on the inside is amazing
I absolutely would have torn into this puzzle the same as you. I have always had an obsessive interest in the inner workings of things like this. As a child I remember getting in trouble for disassembling a friction-motor toy car, fascinated with knowing how it made itself go. I've had to teach myself at least the basics of many specialty skills in order to reassemble all the things I've deconstructed to satisfy my insatiable desire to comprehend the world around me.
It’s very nice and interesting to see not just how you solve it, but also how they work!
I really enjoyed the teardown. I hope you continue to do it (even though I know it might destroy the puzzle) as it is interesting to see how it works similar to a magic trick reveal.
I liked that you did the Teardown! I love learning about the construction of the puzzle mechanisms, watching how the gears work etc. Thank you !
Nothing can stop Mr.Puzzle when he wants in!💪💪
Tear down was great. Really interesting how it was made.
Thanks for satisfying my curiosity, I feel like I would have done the same thing. Beautiful looking puzzle box
Ya, I would have opened it too.... Great video..
More tear downs please! I am on a quest to make my own 3D printed puzzle box and I LOVE being inspired by other makers, but sadly cannot afford all the delightful puzzles out there!
when the knob on the top right was "revealed" to have two cut-outs, it was clear to me, that this system was probably used throughout the system - most certainly on the final middle knob (so with extra cut-outs on the top/bottom center and left middle knob).
The teardown was cool, I'd like to see more teardowns!
It's great to see a teardown and discover how the mechanism works. But to a point it's also understandable WHY it was glued together -- it prevents people from "easily" copying the design, manufacturing their own puzzle, and then selling it on the market. If YOU created this puzzle, might you NOT want people stealing your ideas? I don't know whether this particular puzzle had any kind of patent protection, but I can see why they may not want people to peek inside (thus the glue AND the lack of plastic see-through to the internal workings).
I personally think the mechanism was not hidden to hide it. It was just hidden because the manufacturer did not think about it in detail.
As far as the name goes there were 9 spherical planets before Pluto got demoted and I'd guess that rotating them for the solution is reminiscent of a solar system model.
Are there not still nine planets?
Very interesting. I like the tear down. Thank you
I like it. It seems more subtle than most laser cut wood puzzles. You got lucky, it's harder than it seemed to you. And I think it's fine that the mechanism is hidden.
Loved the tear down!
While I was growing up and going through school in the 60's and 70's, we were taught there were 9 planets. But now they claim Pluto is not actually a planet. The puzzle had 9 knobs
My guess 2
There's currently some moves by astronomers to reinstate Pluto back to planet status.
@@and7barton yeah I heard that too. Something about it’s make up more then it’s orbit 🤔
✊ YES!
Was my 1st thought too. Pluto always was and still is a planet to me.
Love the tear down! Sucks they glued the wood but glad you showed the inside anyway! Thanks for another awesome video!
Imo the most satisfying part about a puzzle is not being able to open it; it's knowing that you figured out the precise approach on your own, or at least found a really clever alternate solution the creator didn't think of. Even with this puzzle, it was pretty unsatisfying when you thought it was a straightforward locking mechanism, but once you took a look inside and realized there were several traps that you lucked your way past, it made you appreciate the puzzle a tiny bit more (albeit in this case I don't think traps were particularly much more ingenious than what you initially assumed it looked like).
I think ideally puzzles should just let you take a look at the locking mechanism regardless, but if they don't, at the very least they should include some explicit and precise solutions so that you at least have a way of verifying your approach.
I completely agree!
Love the teardown :)
NO MERCY! The idea of not being able to know now something works drives me nuts and from the looks of it to you as well
Ooft, that's probably the most brutal I've heard you be about a puzzle! I guess you did get lucky but it seems a lot of money for what it is. Eh, maybe your thoughts on the glue rubbed off on me!
This looks beautiful
THANK YOU, for showing the puzzle. I would say, the reason the tear-down was made extremely hard to do, was to protect the inventor's secret of how it was made, so that he/she wouldn't have copy-cats duping him/her out of money, that clearly, he/she deserved; after coming up with a very thought out and designed puzzle. By you taking it apart on UA-cam, so that everyone in the world can see his hard work, it probably cost him a chunk of change in losses.
Remember the "Golden Rule", Do to OTHERS, as you would want them to do to YOU...!
Bahaha never seen him get angry at a puzzle like he did during the teardown. It was for good reason, but still amusing.
I loved the teardown.
Bravo 👏 well done 👍
This puzzle scratches at a level 6, with deeper grooves at a level 7. Curious to see the burn test.
Love Zack's videos, don't forget about the bend test.
keep up the hard work and loved your vids
When you release your inner Schwarzenegger after seeing glue on the puzzle 🤣
Very satisfying disassembled. It does have Old School construction.
03:53 ... I had the exact same réaction ! 😅 I like this puzzle box. She is tricky (in kind of way)
I don't think I would be able to properly put the puzzle back together if I tore it down to look inside, but I enjoy watching you do it and explaining it to us 😊
having a video of the puzzle being torn down can help IMMENSLY when trying put it back together lol
@@s_gaming71 lol I can see that.
It’s called the planet box bc each of those circles when you opened the box was a planet. 9 planets!
100% agree that paying a lot of money for a puzzle entitles you to also see the mechanism once you've solved it, and I applaud your determination to do so by force. hard to say whether the glue was an effort to keep people out, or to hold it together tighter to allow for less precision in the manufacturing which would result in excessive freeplay, or if the contracted manufacturer simply assembled it the same way they would any other wood product, without concern or knowledge of the use and philosophy behind the box
Great job, Lil pal!!
The most laughs I've had while you have disassembled.
More teardown puzzles please! 😅
Love your demonstration of the 'naked' mechanism of this puzzle.
I would rate this puzzle 3/5 (not 4/5).
Love this épisode by the way
Getting it apart is a bonus puzzle
Heck yea another puzzle!
That's the spirit!
that was pretty funny, I thought you were going use a hacksaw at one point when you couldn't get inside to see the mechanism.
Please can you teardown the Giraffe Puzzle? Given its complexity I'm confused by the secret mechanisms hidden within...
Mr Puzzle - I was shocked you gave it such a high rating^^......I was sure you would give it a 2 or 3 out of 5.
I think I was incredibly lucky findinf the right configuration. Otherwise it would have probably taken me the double amount of time.
Was the 4/5 for the puzzle itself, or for the difficulty of opening it up afterwards? : )
i didnt open the mechanism, because i knew if you had made a video about puzzle you would show it! It worked exactly as i was thinking but i spent around 1.5 hours on it.
Muahahaha I beat you with my predictions of the mechanism. I predicted all opposing sides of the centre would have cut outs as well.
I’m wondering.. if I made my own puzzle box, is there a chance to send it to you for free to have a feedback?
There used to be nine planets, until they downgraded Pluto. I suspect that's where the name came from. There is also a thing called a planetary gear, which isn't exactly what this is, but it looks similar.
Maybe Planet box with the 9 buttons..for 9 planets(Including Pluto)
You had to tear it down lol. Know the workings of the puzzle is half the fun.
Yep. Interesting to know.
i love watching 👍😊
I wanted to see the mechanism, glad we got the teardown. It would have been dumb to open an empty box without seeing it
What are the washers for? You always have them?
Indicating the camera POV for me to not get out of view
The Curious will Never except being 'denied'; Just LOOK before you LEAP.
at least parts didn't tumble out. Paint Job on Sides is Quite Cool!
My best guess on the Planet Box name would be that nine circles is analogous to nine planets. I know Pluto isn't technically a planet anymore, but I know I still count it and I'm going to do so until I die. :P
You could also see it as eight planets orbiting a central sun.
I'm surprised by your rating for this one. You did it fairly quickly so assumed a 2/5 difficulty
I had a lot of luck opening it
@@Mr.Puzzle that should be your tag line, lol. I've watched a lot of your vids and it seems to happen fairly often. However, I think the luck is almost always fueled by your fantastic engineering analysis, which often gets you 90%+ there before any luck happens.😁
I don’t know if u know that there is a anime that‘s called „Phi Brain Kami no Puzzle“ (which basically means Puzzle of God or so) and it’s all about Puzzles, I watched it like 3 times or so and I love it. Maybe it’s also something for you there are all kind of puzzles in that anime. Maybe it will show you some puzzles that even you didn’t know or wouldn’t be able to solve. Give it a try if you‘re interested.
No mercy for the puzzle 😂
While I understand the desire to see the mechanism and I agree they shouldn't make it so hard, in this case it did spoil the puzzle a bit. Even though you had already solved it, you didn't have the full solution and further attempts to solve it would have made it clear that there was more to figure out. That later experience extends the life of the puzzle if you don't disassemble the first time.
Interesting point ☝️
your voice is mesmerizing hahaha😂
"Planet Box" has 9 buttons. There are 9 planets in our solar system.
Thomas M. Dutkiewicz
The most surgical episode ever!.
My thought on the name is that the puzzle namer doesn’t appreciate dwarf planets, and then “planetary alignment”.
No mercy for this puzzle... LOL. Teardown was a bit messy, did you every put it back together? My only guess why maybe they used glue is that they didn't want the puzzle to come apart when shipping it, vibrations can cause things to loosen, but I also agree with you, this was a bit over the top... so I don't think they expected or wanted it to be opened.
Maybe most people don't try taking
There new puzzle apart to see how it works.
I would figure the puzzle out and then put it away.
and that would be it,. But that's me good show. 😁
Love to tear down
I always tear down a puzzle once I've solved it
9 buttons - 9 planets?
#team_Pluto
Any progress on the impossible planet puzzle? :)
If I remember correctly, he broke it.
@@pepperonipizza8200 not in the video atleast, he could'nt solve it and if i missed som post he made atleast make a video showing the solution :)
@@zlappey No, it wasn't in the video. He left a comment about it when someone asked.
7:30 close your eyes 😌
Nine planets; nine buttons.
You can insult me, burn down my house, steal all of my money. But don't glue a puzzle together to hide the mechanism. 😠
Whoaggggghhhhhh!!!!!! 😆
9 planets in our solar system. The tear down shows a planetary gear setup. The big wheel is the sun, in the middle and the planets are the small wheels surrounding it
I would guess the knobs represent the nine planets in our solar system (yes, pluto gets to be a planet this one more time), and the planets has to be perfectly aligned to open the box.
Or the middle one represents the sun perhaps, so Pluto is left out once again. Sorry Pluto.
9 buttons, 9 planets (If you still count Pluto XD)
At least you didn't cut your finger opening this puzzle up :)
😂👍
Hey! it was fine to see the mechanism, but, 'I'm no expert, but mayb ethey wanted "their" mechanism to be a secret? heh dunno
The rating for this should have been 2 since the mechanisms are quite basic throughout.
Very cool yeah also frustrating when you're not allowed to view mechanics
Planetary gears.
How about the previous planet box? Has it been solved?
ua-cam.com/video/8BJIVMsDH9Y/v-deo.html
I didn’t realize that a big part of doing a puzzle is figuring out how they made it.
There used to be 9 planets
But not anymore 😅
@@Mr.Puzzle The mysterious Planet X (10?) that astronomers have been searching for for many years became the 9th planet when Pluto was downgraded.
@@brownro214 they didn't find it yet and there are no solid proofs that it must be there, only the possibility
