So this album was Stu being a music theory dork. Every couple bars, the song changes from the key of D Major to F# Major (two typically dissonant keys). His task was not only to write a song like that, but for it to sound inconspicuous about itself Any time you hear one of the guys miss or hit a sour note singing or instrumentally, it's because this song was absolute "exercise" to write 😂 it's not natural to play some of these chords next to each other, so sometimes you miss 🫰he even says at the end of the Chicago 23 performance "that was fuckin HARD!"
I'm of the opinion that this album is every bit as much a masterpiece as Petrodragonic. this song in particular is just ridiculously well written, i could write an entire dissertation about this one song. it's an overture for the entire album PS studio is way better and doesn't have any wrong notes lmfaooooo
You sure it was recorded then? I thought the idea was just conceived then and they played around with the songs, but Stu couldn’t really pin it down till recently
That section that sounds like Pink Floyd that you loved so well, sounds like Cookie's solo project, (Pipe-Eye) especially the song "Chakra." Both that section and Chakra give my bassplayin-self major frethand cramps!
This concert came before the silver cord video had even been debuted, so they had those outfits already. Stu's whole get up was exactly what he wears in that video.
Big Walky Jake's modular synth. You think guitar shit is expensive, dont go down the modular rabbit hole 😅 God I love this song. Hope I get to hear it live next month! Rollercoaster ride from start to finish. Let me know when you get "bapada bapada bo bo" out your head 😂
Almost every song on this excellent album brings back some associations to me. "Change" reminds me of the B-side of "Abbey Road" due to its structure and ideas. An album that I love because it takes me on a journey through my musical taste of the last forty years. This is how I read it, being a total novice in music theory. Listen to the studio version of "Change" until dinner. It's delicious.
The keys are major. But they pick minor chords all the time. One song is mostly just B Minor to B Major as the chord progression. Still fits their weird ass rule
It's actually D Major to F# _Minor,_ *not* F# Major. I'm not saying this because I can tell what key it's in (I can't), but because every source I can find says so. Seems like Shawn got that wrong. This song is an absolute jam. Prog-pop greatness right here. The studio version is a little more consice, and there are a few moments in this live version that aren't correct, occasional wrong notes or chords. Next up is the lead single Hate Dancing, really short song with a fun music video.
The studio version is clean AF. This is just their second time playing it live, so they aren’t like the most tight even though it’s great
Every other song in the album is built off of this song. Chords and melodies. If you like what you hear then prepare for more CHANGES!

Music videos for the next two!!!!
Yeah once Stu put on the The Silver Cord glasses you knew they were gonna jam the synth part
This album was recorded in 2017 and they were sitting on it for YEARS. The output is insane.
You sure it was recorded then? I thought the idea was just conceived then and they played around with the songs, but Stu couldn’t really pin it down till recently
They were working on it in 2017, but Stu couldn't fully conceptualize what the album needed to be yet. Some of it was recorded back then, though.
LETS GOOOOOOOO WE’RE DOING CHANGES WOOOOOOO
i was there for the live debut, fucking magical
"No Body" and "Exploding Suns" are my fav tracks. I've got a decent 2.1 system in the Livingroom. Crank that shit up when it comes on.
👌😎👌
Exploding Suns is such a beatiful song dude
No studio? Anyway FIRST!!
Studio version sounds soo clean! Top KGLW album IMO
This is basically a Stereolab song, and I mean that as a great compliment.
That section that sounds like Pink Floyd that you loved so well, sounds like Cookie's solo project, (Pipe-Eye) especially the song "Chakra." Both that section and Chakra give my bassplayin-self major frethand cramps!
You still hate dancing??
Haha when did I say that???
@@rockdariff haha wait for the next song
The worst thing about this album and the only bad part about it is that it's too short. I love this album a ton

This one had a video for about a week.
REAL. I LOVE F#m ITS MY FAVORITE KEY AAAAA

Electronic music was the first genre I got into growing up, and man, Joey's section of this was so great. LOL the "yeah" at 27:46 killed me as well 😆
This is a cool af live version, but the studio version is so much smoother and flows together a lot nicer. Not so much "stop and go".
Check out the music videos for Hate Dancin and Astroturf, they’re both awesome

Ooh which song is that?
That drum solo was from Gaia! :)
You should do some metalhead envy videos of their live performances of Petro songs
Also, it was cool to get a shout out!
this performance happened ten months ago at this point and god it ruled
I totally get the Mars attacks vibe haha
After it's all over it would be cool if you went back and did some live versions you didn't get to the first time around
No studio version :(
usually when there’s a vocal harmony with stu, it’s joey/cookie (or rarely lucas) providing the harmony
in this case it’s joey
My son was in that crowd 😉

Also YOU MIGHT LIKE DANCING...
Mejor la de estudio, mil veces
its perfectly fine to do all or only live song version of this album. its focus on jazz allows it to do that.
You and your girlfriend will be dancing in the kitchen to the next song, guaranteed
Studio way better
