  • In 1981 Paul Rivera created a 5 year master plan for Fender guitar amplifiers that detailed descriptions, features, functions, price points, market positions and more. The All-Tube Stage Lead was part of that plan. This single prototype was hand-built. However, the decision was to use that name on a future solid state amplifier and the tube version was never released. This one is the only one in the world. Some of the features included Paul Rivera's pioneered effects loop with level controls, mid-boost, foot-switchable gain-boost and more..

Love these videos. I hope you will cover the Concert from the early 80's. I have an '85, the single 12 model.
A couple of my friends have the same one but with an EV speaker. Mine has a Fender blue label "special design" job. Sounds fine....the amp has only had to be retubed and a few caps replaced....great sound
Love the cleans.....Fender channel is my go to......but I use channel 2 as a fine tune tonally and/or a clean superboost for solos. My tech rated it 60.5 watts RMS @clip point...78.5 RMS max. It's a beast! Thanks Paul.

I know this is an old post; but, I have to comment. I actually own 2 Fender Concert amps designed by Mr. Rivera. I am really familiar with that amp. This Stage Lead looks super close to a Concert. Same rear layout, same tube and transformer placement, same pull switches for mid boost etc. @paulodiasduarte 's comment is spot on, a concert in a slightly bigger cab than a princeton. Back in the 80s I was so glad Paul R. got Fender amps back to where they should have been. Having played an Ed Jahn's Fender 75 (an underrated amp in most circles), I think the Concert sounds better. I'm sure this stage lead prototype sounds just like it with a little less bass from the smaller cab.

    I still own & use, frequently, 2 X Super Champs, & 2 X Twin 2 Combo’s, Rare Gems, these amps are legendary.

Haha, this prototype he’s showing was never to be, and the name/logo ended up being used on a dual channel 100 watt solid state.
I know cause I have it. AMAZING cleans due to the 100 watts. Would make any jazz player that uses solid state very happy (Roland JC120, or Polytone Brute). I wouldn’t mind putting in the upgraded EV or JBL 12” speaker into it if I ever find one cheap. My Harvard Reverb II has the upgraded EV Force 10 and it sounds great! 👍🏻

He did us dirty by showing us this unicorn but not letting us hear it.
Can we get a demo pleeaase? :(

This looks like a concert in the size of a princeton. It would have been a best seller. Would you consider producing a series of these like you did recently with the deluxe reverb for sweetwater?

Would like to know if Paul was involved in the design of the Fender Harvard amplifier. 20watt came in a non reverb version and reverb model. Solid state that's really good. Any info much appreciated.

Yes he was involved, but not in the early tube tweed era Harvards.
Just before he came to Fender, Fender had a 20watt solid state Harvard and Harvard reverb in a cheaply made tall cab.
With lame looking rocker power switches.
Rivera also redid the entire line of solid state amps (not just tube) and kept the Harvard name but put it in a more traditional champ looking cab and boosted it to 50 watts.
So the 20 and 50 watt Harvard’s you are referring to are from two different eras, one before the other. Rivera was only involved in the later upgraded version.
The Harvard Reverb II also came to be known as the “Solid State SuperChamp”.

To bad the final product was solid state.
Its pretty nice sounding for solid state.
Until you AB it against any of the
Series ii tube amps like the deluxe or concert. This looks like it would have been basically an upgraded version of the princeton ii. I will be happy to trade your prototype stage lead for my solid state stage lead. Just hit me up if your interested. ;)
I love These mid 80s fender amps.
They took the innovative ideas Ed Jahns was playing with and elevated them into designs that were much more practical and usable.
I have owned, or own almost all of the production models. The concert, the princton ii and the little solid state harvard are among my favorites. The london reverbs are impressive for being solid states. Oddly i have never owned a superchamp.
    Thanks for these great designs.

So, let me get this straight: the Rivera era Concert is an updated Stage Lead? Did PR make any amps equivalent to the Rivera era Fenders once he started Rivera Amplification?
