Sad to see you leave. Do visit us again soon.
Singaporeans have high expectations for everything. Most of us know our transport system is good compared to many countries. But we expect them to be even better. That's why you see us complaining about transportation all the time. And sometimes it's our demand for perfection that makes this island so beautiful. Anyway, complaining is one of our favourite past time. :)
I know we are very backwards when it comes to recycling. This is one thing that we need to learn from the rest of the world and we need to learn fast.
Great video! Keep them coming. Cheers!
Thanks for having me!
Transportation breaks down every month so you have to hire people from Taipei MRT to fix for you....
That's HIGH STANDARD ? That's cheapskate standard. Want to put 10 million people in the same small city with the SAME FACILITY.
@@JitendraGajjar are you serious wanna go there next year pls tell me that's like more the older generation
Heading to Singapore soon and found your videos, amazing work, glad I caught them!
I am born and raised in New York. I moved to Singapore two years ago for work. A lot points agreed. Locals always complain about the MRT. I think the MRT is one of the most cleanest, cheapest and efficient train systems on the planet.
Yes no napkins and water. However in Canada and the US, how many places can you get a meal for the same price of what you would pay at a hawker center or food court. In New York, they will give free napkins, but lunch will also cost you 12usd (17 SGD). Pros and cons for sure
Whats the average cost of a meal at a hawker?
@@j2174 it depends on what you order, where you order. At a neighbourhood hawker, a plate of chicken rice can cost only $2SGD to $3.50SGD.
As a Singaporean student here, I’ve gotta agree on the strict education systems and laws that are imposed. And the recycling... PREACH. It’s really difficult to recycle here and that’s kinda upsetting, even as a metropolitan city.
As for myself, I wish that I could go on an exchange to Canada or the US! That would be a dream.
Let me know if you ever come to Canada!
Sad to see you go, but excited for what’s to come ❤️
Much will be coming your way.
Good Place, but not people
Always refreshing to see Singapore from the outside perspective! Great video bro! 💪
I appreciate your openness! Thanks brother
Singapore and Hong Kong are two places I have always wanted to visit and thanks to your videos I have learned so much about Singapore.
Good for you Jensen. You've opened your mind and your future to a lifetime of travel and understanding.
Healthy mind = healthy soul
I planned my tour to Singapore in December after watching your video, and eventually made up my mind to try my best to get into NUS! Thank you for sharing us your life in Singapore through a creative way, which inspired me to a great extent :)
The production value in your videos is spectacular. Looking forward to seeing more.
I'm from Singapore, NUS and i went for a summer exchange at UBC Vancouver last June! Totally have to agree with you on the recycling part. It was such an eye opener for me during my stay at UBC. As an environmentalist, recycling is made so much easier in Vancouver. I hope Singapore/singaporeans can change such behaviour.
Glad you enjoyed your exchange in Singapore! Great shoot btw!
aww, i’m so glad that you enjoyed your time with us in nus and singapore! :) totally agree on the excessive plastic usage and under-appreciation of the transportation system. thanks for sharing with us your experience, continue to make awesome videos ☺️
Thank you Xi Zhi, I will keep trying to create more videos for you all!
Love your videos very much and I am so happy to be exchanging in NUS this semester. Gonna be great ❤️

I’ve been to Singapore and HK many many times and always love it. It’s not just shopping as some odd people think. In both there are super forests and hiking and quiet places.
Great Video Jensen!!!! You are Amazing!!!

Thank you for watching!
@@jensentung not at all....be good be safe....take care and thanks
It is great to bring the best out of Singapore that motivates a person like myself to go to the country and traveling around South East Asia. Experiencing different culture bring an understanding of the customs, arts, social institutions, achievements of a particular nation and people of particular place. In Jensen Tung’s case it was Singapore. Thinking globally in a way that relates to the whole world and not just for ourselves. Do not be comfortable by getting out of your comfort zones especially on an exchange as a university student. Keep up the great videos!
I'm about to do a research exchange with NUS this summer. I'm from UofT in Toronto. Looking forward to it!
I’m getting nostalgic for my trip to Singapore I had in March now, watching this video ;’) Great video!
I actually was thinking of applying to NUS, and this video is only accelerating that want 😂
It's good you left your comfort zone and went abroad, even if just for a short time. I wish I had done the same when I was in uni. I think it would've learned more about myself and the world around me. Good job.
Bro the quality of your videos is soo good. You're gonna be a 5M youtube for sure in the near future
HOLYYY AHAHAH JENSEN MORE CANTO PLEASE 😍 HAHAHA LOVE the intro and outro to this vid!
KEEP IT GOING! Always rooting for ya pal! ;D
Oh get ready for more Canto, it'd definitely coming your way (although I can't guarantee if it's going to be good or not :P )
Hi Jensen! I'm also a UBC student who just arrived at NUS yesterday haha
Thanks for your super informative videos! Really helped me find my way around LOL
Really enjoyed your videos! I am glad you had a good time here in Singapore :)
Thank you my man!
Hey dude, just wanted to tell you I really enjoy your video's and that your 'Day in the Life' video really inspired me! I decided to make one for my own school too and since I'm going to South Korea next month for exchange, I also want to make one for my stay at that University. Because your video helped me a lot on what to expect on an exchange, I wanted to share my experiences with others too in hopes that that will be just as helpful for them as your video was for me! Keep up the good work! Greetings from the Netherlands!
Good on you man!
Aw so sad 😭 WE WILL MISS YOU !!!
Thanks again for the opportunity help others.

Hello from NUS! Hope you’ve enjoyed it! I chanced upon your vlogs, and I’m enjoying the shots!
Thank you Shanice!
You already summarised my exchange experience perfectly before me even going for it HAHA.
YOOOO JENSOOOOOOON~~~ absolutely killed this exchange man I’ll see you soon! 🤙🏻
Couldn't do it without you bro!
I see myself in your video haha. All the best in Canada!
I did an exchange at ntu Singapore and I can relate so much to your recycle comments haha sounds like we had similar experience!
OMG😣
I was excited to see you, I'm joining NUS on January from India. Lack of luck😬
You are from BC? haha. I am living in Vancouver right now, and I was living in Singapore before I came here. I graduated from NUS more than 12 years ago, and the time spent at NUS has remained the best period of my life.
1:14 seek discomfort haha yes theoryyyy
Such a good overview 👌🏻 I totally get the whole recycling thing too...I felt so bad throwing plastic/paper in the garbage bin. Have a good time in HK (:
We're too Canadian haha
I’m British born Chinese and just applied for study abroad in Candida, and Singapore as my second choice ! So glad to hear your exchange went well :)
Both excellent choices my friend
I live in HDB flat in Singapore.HDB provided recycling bins in our area n other areas too.
greetings from indonesia❤️
I love Singapore!!!
ชอบการบรรยายได้อย่างมีอารมณ์มาก สุดยอดค่ะ
I'm hoping to get a chance to study at NTU next fall if this COVID stuff clears up. Really hoping it does. I've watched tons of videos, done tons of research on their architecture (mega nerd) but still have a bit of anxiety when it comes to studying at such a prestigious school (if i get the opportunity)
Watching here from the Philippines. 😊
Shoutout to the Philippines!
Wosh to see u in NYC
Great video. Greetings from Germany!
Shoutout to Germany!!
Hey! Don't put greetings in Germany! You disrespect the Fuhrer himself!!! D:
The outro was sick
Ayyy
I always wanted to do a study abroad program to australia at my university but I never got a chance to considering covid hit. I figured, well I could always travel there for a few days to visit sometime in the future 😅
The 3rd lesson is probably the best. You can't change at all without leaving your comfort zone.
PREACH
Hello! I am planning on going exchange to NUS from Alberta! It is great to see your NUS videos and campus life, and I have so many questions to ask regarding exchange at NUS to you if that is okay with you?!
OMG! Amazing observations :)
I had the same issue with tissue and water! I was struggling in my first year in Singapore as well. Now get use to it already :)
4:31
lol that tray slowly moving away
Welcome to Hong Kong!
Nice video. ❤
Wow! Welcome to Hong Kong!
jensen one heart please
walao nice nice
Hi! FYI, all plastic products used in Singapore are bio-degradable, especially plastic bags, you can literally watch them turning brittle and powdery right in front your eyes in less than two years, speaking from personal experience. Hope you come back soon!!! ❤️
Ayee notification SQUAD !! IM SO EXCITED FOR THE HONG KONG VLOGS !! Also would u ever travel to South Korea?
Excited to release them! And if I get the chance, why not.
When you suddenly switched to Cantonese, your voice goes deeper. You might need to keep drinking herbal drinks while in HK if this switch continues. LOL!
Is it worth going on exchange to Singapore for 2 semesters or is one semester enough?
I am Southeast Asian person studying in European country.
Tissue and water can be free in some Asian countries.
Moreover, plastic usage especially free plastic bags in the supermarkets and convenient stores is very high when compared to Europe and US.
As a Singaporean, I’m so sad that Singapore doesn’t encourage recycling enough :(
Could you speak more about being an Asian-Canadian in Singapore? As an American who is 100% ethnically Chinese (both my grandparents came from Hong Kong), I'm wondering how easy it would be for me to fit into Singaporean society, particularly with Chinese-Singaporeans. I currently plan on doing a summer program in Taiwan this summer where we will learn lots of Mandarin, but SG is a place I'd consider living in more than Taiwan due to Singapore's Westernized culture/habits and English being the main language. In addition, SG is a truly beautiful, developed country with many job opportunities
Also, may I ask how often is Mandarin actually spoken in SG? I know English is what's most used, but do you know how often Mandarin gets used within the Chinese-Singaporean community, or the SG workforce? Some people say Hokkien is spoken more amongst Chinese-Singaporeans.
As a Chinese Singaporean here, English is mostly used especially for official work and documents so you should get by well over in Singapore.
But regarding the way we speak, a lot of Singaporeans uses colloquial Singlish which is more of a "short and fast way" to communicate. One thing to note is the tone is normally emphasised on the last few words of the sentence, like "lah, ley, lot, ma" and different tones implies different meaning to the whole sentences.
There is a lot of Chinese Singaporeans in Singapore though and especially the older generation tends to speak Mandarin or dialects better than English so it would be a bonus if you can speak in the language they are more comfortable with.
Knowing Mandarin, some Malay or some Hindi are especially handy in Singapore since it makes you easier to integrate with Singaporeans. Especially useful when going to hawker centres or markets since there is a higher majority of older Singaporeans there which might not be as proficient in speaking in English than in Mandarin or other dialects.
