Anyone my age group from Wales grew up listening to these songs. They were an integral part of our upbringing and so many people can relate to the lyrics of various tracks. Back when songs had real meaning. These bands gave us passion, pride for where we're from 🏴
This is my favourite Stereophonics song. I stil have CD single of it and there was a really good cover of an Eagles song on it to. Have you reacted to Dinosaur Jr yet Nick? If not can I request Start Choppin? Its got an awesome riff and J Mascis has a very unique voice you either love or loathe.
Awesome awesome band. When Kelly writes a song he tries to tell a story. ( he used to do story boards as a graphic illustrator). Fly like an eagle video …. Great song .. great story……. Enjoy.
This was the song that really turned me on to the 'Phonics. Maybe it spoke to my own depressive/s*icidal feels at the time. It still sounds epic after all these years.
Hi - have you tried The Beautiful South? Loads of poppy tunes with ironic lyrics… I think you’ll like them. I certainly did & I loved The Smiths to. If you do, try ‘old red eyes’ or ‘song for whoever’ or ‘don’t marry her’… basically anything from ‘Carry on up the charts(? I think that was the singles collection)
Beautiful south are massively underrated nowadays though huge in their day. Lyrically i don't think many get close but the poopy tunes mask over them to the casual listener (Which was kind of the idea i think) huge back catalogue to go through with them if you ever have time.
Very strongly agree with you carry on up the charts a very very solid album from beautiful south every track is excellent love this album it's in my top 10👍🇬🇧
Tune! Check out graffiti on the train from the album of the same title, I believe its related to the same event (although i maybe massively wrong) as this song and is another great phonics tune. Kelly Jones such an underrated vocalist
When I was a teenager my discman was constantly playing Word Gets Around and Performance and Cocktails; as well as the Morfa Stadium gig on VHS. Working class boys from a neglected small town in South Wales (same as the Manics). But, for me, Just Enough Education to Perform was weak, and musically, they went downhill from there (just my opinion obviously; I know they have hardcore fans and they’re incredibly successful). Their music is now soulless and boring; they’re just churning it out to keep the party going, like a lot of older bands. Love this song though - one of the soundtracks to me teens!

Simply great - wow Kelly Jones' voice is so expressive, real grief coming across. More Stereophonics please
amazing I still get the chills listening to this song
So do I, it's a fantastic song.
Wonderful song by a wonderful band. Amazing band live.
I love this song, it reminds me of the 90s. When the world was so much better than it is now.
Absolutely love that track
An amazing debut album - word gets around

I love how you go into depth about each song you hear. Its much more interesting than the usual reactions!
Seen these live many years ago ... the original 3 in the band. Good Welsh boys 🏴

And maybe The Housemartins as well !

@@hod2 I’m sure you meant ‘poppy’ tunes mask over the lyrics!
A good example of this is ‘Song For Whoever’, or the end of ‘I’ll Sail This Ship Alone’.

This tune got me into the phonics. Tragic back story to the song but really great lyrics though..superb tune.
My fav phonics song

from Winchester England
The local boy was killed by the train. It always runs on time but that day it didn’t 😔

I wouldn’t worry most of us English can’t Pronounce Welsh places
Neither can we Scots. I doubt anyone not Welsh can.
rockin song
