When you’re a member of the House of Windsor, going into the family business may come with a lifetime of prestige and privilege, but it doesn’t always bring great wealth. Even members of The Firm-as high-ranking royals have been known since the days of King George VI-are often dependent on their elders for allowances, gifts and other blue-blooded handouts.
But it’s still good to be the king.

... and in return Charles will be King for life, never be able to express an opinion publicly, never sell any assets, never sell any jewels, palaces (even those he owns outright through inheritance).
Exactly!!! All of the people complaining about this wealth don't realize how many limits he has. His whole life he has to be figurehead and a symbol and he has do it perfectly without responding to any of the mountains of criticism (often frivolous) that is levelled at him. None of the complainers could handle his life. It is also a reason that I applaud Prince Harry for escaping that bubble for real freedom.
Ohhh cut the farce about how these monarchs don't have power and are mere figure heads. Do some research. These guys drive policy (both national & international) have veto powers. Sheesh. Elizabeth and Charles have on record interfered with bills from which ones could even be tabled before parliament. The system of the House of Lords too, which is or has been a non-elected parliament, with hereditary persons which does make decisions are people that give an ear to the monarch. In instances like the Iraq war and Australian politics, you have to read of the monarchy's interference. Look at the black spider memos of Charles which were lobbying gov't policy or how the crown interfered with climate laws. Or how Charles & Andrew are involved in British-Saudi arms deals. Or the crown's direct involvement in sabotaging Scotland's calls for republicanism plus the monarchy's acknowledgement of brutality against the Irish. In addition, people have forgotten the MI6 which on occasions works on direct royal orders.

The income from these assetts partially go to the respective governments, but ownership remains with the crown.
For example 90% of Canada is Crown lands. 25% of Australia is Crown land. Almost half of New Zealand is Crown land. The crown also owns substantial land assetts in South Africa, India, Bangladesh, Gambia, Kenya, Malaysia, Pakistan, Singapore, and Tanzania.
I think Government of India should pass law to taken all those looted properties in India still retained with English. Most of it are looted.
I don't know about other countries but there's no land or assets held by the crown in Pakistan

@@BobDoesReviews to the contrary, they have very busy schedules. They have to manage these "outrageous" fortunes, for one. Charles reportedely works well into the night. As Prince of Wales he presided over some 200 charities. You might think what they do is useless or even harmful, but they do work a lot. Sure, they dont need to: no one's going to fire them. I'm not a monarchist (not even British), and I'm not being argumentative, I just think it is much more interesting to try to understand things as they are than to let our opinions stand in the way of our curiosity. There will be plenty of reasons for having a Republic even after you take a serious look at what the Royals do.

It’s interesting that Queen Elizabeth’s will is sealed for 90 years. I wonder if it’s the same for her grandfather and her father. It’s almost 90 years since King George V, her grandfather, died. I wonder if his will has been sealed for 90 years. It will be 90 years since his death in 2026. That’s 3.5 years from now. I need to do some research. Would be interesting to see what he left to George VI and what eventually went to Elizabeth that we don’t know about.

All monarchs wills are sealed from the public for 90 years. They're just not available to the average citizen.
Need to read up on this too I was once read it was a tradition to keep wills sealed for 90 years that began a few monarchs back before Elizabeth II. The Duke of Edinburgh also did the same with his will

imo opinion, its better to be the king's lil brother or the 5th son than becoming king bcs you get to enjoy the royalty perks without carrying the burden of ruling a country, even though the title is not as important as it was 200 years ago
The titular owner has changed but the "fortune" is as it was before. A lot of it is merely held in trust as opposed to a personal fortune that he may spend.

Not as much as you may think. Revenue from the duchys go to the government. In turn, the Royal family gets a set amount , the Civil List. The government is the winner here. The Royals cannot sell, or amend these properties in any way. It is Crown Land, but the Crown ,the monarch, doesn't actually own it. It is in the name of the King, but Charles cannot sell one acre.

I find it absurd that the monarch of a kingdom, which has a subject-monarch relationship with it's citizens, has anything "private" or exclusive from the established state. All of their wealth is made from taxes and the fact they make exclusive income off of seized lands that were once fiefdoms is completely absurd and twisted.

I’m of the thinking that the monarchy is a charitable organization and helps many people in todays world. At least they aren’t putting condos on beautiful lands like most greedy people would. Do you think they should give more money away or save some for future ? Seems like they do so much work. I love to look at all those ceremonies , parades, weddings bc feels like something from past is alive. Including the Crown estate and the Royal collection just shows that you do not care about the facts. Those are owned by the charles in right of the Crown, that is in his post of head of state. He can't pawn off the Crowns or sell the castles or take all the money from the crown estates. Its the "Crown's" where the crown represents a legal entity that is the head of the nation. Charles just happens to be the CEO of that entity. Its not his personal stuff..
And please add the responsibility that comes with being an impartial constitutional monarch. Charles is an avid environmentalist. But he cannot attend the COP conference in Egypt because his PM doesn't support it. That's the freedom they have.
