During this dark and stormy week, I take you to the library with me for a book haul, read three amazing new books, and find two 5 star reads!! I know I didn’t end this one out how I usually would and didn’t end up vlogging on Sunday, but there’s been quite a bit going on as of Sunday morning and I wasn’t able to do so. My library’s challenge for every month so far this year has been to read 600 minutes. I’m an English major so I had over 1000 minutes read the first week of March. They’ve been the easiest challenges since I started participating again. Although the all year challenge is a “road trip” challenge so basically you just read books that are set in different states in the U.S. and they give recommendations for each state too which is nice.

re: retinol, i use tretinoin prescribed by my dermatologist! check with your insurance but with mine using the prescription is much much cheaper than buying a retinol from a skincare brand
You can also use goodrx if your insurance doesn't cover it. I got a tube that lasted 3 months for around $30
I love the Mae Love retinol. It is reasonably priced and they have a starter retinol to use prior to their main retinol. Highly recommend!

I use differin as my retinol. It does say it is an acne treatment on the box, but you don't need to use it for that, retinol is just used for acne treatments a lot. So you can use differin as a retinol for anti-aging too. If you do try it and have sensitive skin, I'd recommend using it a few times a week at night. 😊
The peach&lily retinal is so gentle, I was scared to start too! Easy to get at ulta 👍🏻

I feel you about the dentist. I hate going so I try and get everything done in as few visits as possible. I hate getting numbed too uuuugh!!! Pain relievers never work for me for teeth stuff either. It's like the nerves there are immune or something. Glad your filling is all fixed though.
I haven’t been on TikTok since December 2022. It truly has been one of the best decisions I’ve made for my mental health. I deleted it so that I didn’t sit on it wasting time while I was off work around Christmas and then loved that I was not spending 1+ hours TOTALLY overstimulated every day so much that it stuck!
Hate to say it but it also opened my eyes to at least one friendship that I realized was being maintained solely by sending each other TikToks which isn’t healthy. I haven’t seen that friend for almost the EXACT amount of time I’ve been off TikTok.. 😅
I love that Instagram- I’m always blown away how accurate she is at guessing the book boxes. I signed up in September for the romantasy book box wait list so I have a bit to wait.

I use a retinol product from skinbetter. The Alpharet clearing serum. It's supposed to be for more acne-prone and oily skin types, but they also have retinol products for other skin types as well.
I have nota desk pad and it shows tea stains like crazy~ it's a foam base so look for a waterproof one.

Naturium is at Target and they have a good basic retinol in both a serum and a cream and then they have a step up retinal
I use Tree of Life Retinol. Just make sure to not jump into using it everyday. I would recommend starting at night because it can also make you skin sensitive. Better to have that at home than out at work!

I use the Medik8 retinol, I really like it! They have a starter version and then 2 stronger ones if you've used retinol before.

I’m just now starting the retinol journey and I’ve started out with Cera ve (because I am cheap and don’t want to pay until I’m sure my face won’t freak out), so far so good here 😂

Look for retinaldahyde over retinol. The furst only has to convery once to the active, the retinal has to convert twice. I buy retinal for my neck and undereyes, less chance of irritation. The Ordinary 2% is good and strong, same wuth Mae Love. ❤
I saw both of those names, but I couldn’t tell if I start with retinol because some say the Hyde is too strong? It’s too confusing lol. I do have the lowest dose of the ordinary already though!
If you already have the liw dose, get the higher dise, but start with once or twice week. You only need a pea size amount. Moisturize over the retinal. Slow and steady wins this race. 😊
@@oliviareadsalattefrom my understanding, retrinaldehyde actually more gentle since it only has to go through one conversion! I made another comment but I use the Avene retrinaldehyde on my sensitive skin and haven’t had any problems with irritation.

I started using First Aid Beauty’s light retinol serum but recently switched up to The Ordinary’s retinol serum.
The ordinary worked pretty well when I tried it!

Girl, I take my books with me everywhere I go, even tho I know I won't be able to read them but I just have to. I mean I have a problem, I'm afraid something will happen, Like the apocalypse or something bad will happen while I'm out for a while. I always have a book with me or my Kindle, or both. 😂😂😂

Low key I’ve been using the Olay Retinol (and currently looking into others), but it’s a pretty affordable option and I can pick it up at the grocery store. Though honestly I can’t even tell if it works or not 😂 I should have taken pictures when I started a few months ago to track any subtle changes. For now I’m just assuming it does its job.
I feel like I never know if the skin care stuff is working but I like the routine so I use it for that 🤣

I honestly try to just keep a solid routine because my acne is hormonal and just works in a cycle every month; I honestly have gotten over having it because we all have pores, it's just a thing that happens! Paula's choice BHA has been great, but keeping a very simple routine of cleanser, moisturizer, and the BHA has been the best. Every time I try to add in a ton of stuff, it doesn't work out!

@mamesjenkins7583 I started out doing twice a week, then every other day, and now every day! But make sure you’re keeping up on moisturizing if you have dry skin; it dried mine out a little a first.

I hate going to the dentist and I have to get a lot of work done myself 😅 any tips to deal with the anxiety and my name is kayla lol hey 👋
Hi Kayla!!! 👋🏼 honestly, I feel like my tips are lame but I will happily be lame if it helps hehe. I bring a book with me and hold it the whole time; feeling the pages with my pointer finger or thumb is super calming and grounds me. I’ve never had anyone say anything about me doing it, so don’t worry about that. I also listen to music the entire time and that helps the absolute most. I think the main thing is focusing as much as humanly possible on breathing deep and slowly through your nose and feeling that sensation throughout your body can help give your mind so much work to do, since you don’t naturally notice that, that it can’t focus on the scary. I’ve noticed that I essentially meditate when I’m there! Not as calm, but it definitely helps!

Love your vlogs!!!! Personally I don’t understand the special edition thing. Like especially subscriptions, cuz you’re buying special editions of books you’ve not even read. I think it’s become so big partly cuz of social media causing fomo, like it wasn’t even a thing like this a decade ago 😂 now it’s a huge industry n all I see is people being disappointed by it 9/10, but still spending their money on it.. it’s so weird to me lol
I def agree with the fomo aspect of things. If I didn’t like a majority of their books, since they’re a surprise, I’d probably not sub anymore. But luckily I do and the surprise is fun! It helps me find new books 📖
