Thanks! A dude who fixes up VWs locally showed me how to do it instead of charging me unnecessarily, i guess he was busy :) SO I'll attempt it tomorrow all being well! Even I might be able to do this
wow....i wish i should of watch this video first......i had to remove the whole door panel thinking i would access it thru there....the window stop me, until i decided to check on the side door and let my imajination do its work and puff it came off....great video man..
Could I just replace the driver side lock with a used lock and key but keep my ignition key as is? I only have one manual lock in my Rabbit (08) with no remote. Dealer only had one key too. My lock is doing the sane thing, just spinning. I’m an outreach social worker which means I’m constantly locking and unlocking before and after appointments with clients (no remote) and I don’t make much. So no money to go replace the whole thing. I could definitely do what you did on the driver side door. And use that to get in and my original key to start the car. Would that work?
Actually if all the other key locks are good including the ignition you can just change the lock set in the door lock assembly. I did it...A bit tricky but nothing too difficult. Thank You
My used '09 Tiguan came without a FOB. My lock cylinder is now broken and turning round and round. Are the locks interchangeable between the models, or do I have to get an '09 Tiguan lock?
Rico I know you might never read this, but I'm having the same problem with mine. if you could let me know what you did that'd be great. thanks. lock cylinder still loose when I tighten the set screw
Will this work on my VW Polo 01 model aswell ? Cause the lock cylinder (the one you pulled out and replaced (without the cover), isn't fastened in my car.
Hello, how do I tighten the bolt securing the cylinder on the door?, I have been trying but once I turn the bolt all the way is like it's not doing anything at all, I can just go and take the cylinder out by hand. (Just for the record I did not disassembled the door lock or anything like that, everything works just fine, but I noticed the cylinder lock is loosen and I want to take care of that).
well the ignition lock cylinder is a whole diff story on changing, i am getting ready to do one in a vr6 swap so guess ill shoot one for that here in the next few days
you forgot to tell these fine watchers what happens when u change that door lock, and suddenly that key doesnt match the ECU or the cluster, thus triggering the imob, rendering the vehicle usless
if any of you followed this fact filled tutorial and your car wont start, the imobilizer has disabled it, Northern Cali residents can contact me for ecm unlock using vag com
Is it as easy as just replacing the pins in the appropriate cylinder slots? The cam broke on my 98 TDI NB and all the the replacement kits have the cam with the two wide notches. Mine has a narrow notch and wide on the other side. I'm thinking that I'll have to switch out the whole thing to match (both wide) and then just move the tumbler pins to match my key.

Thank You. I thought I had to remove the inside door panel, before I saw this.

So do you need both keys now because i only want to replace the driver side

Some models and years are interchangeable, but not all.
You could take the pins from your old lock and then use them in the spare part. That way you could use the same key again.
What happens now? You have to use two different keys if the lock is broken? Thanks
ugsisr change all doors and ignitiin
thanks for the video. Even though I've tightened the screw the new lock can still be pulled out - any idea how to fix?

you need to push the lock and with a screwdriver in the torx opening push in the other direction, until you hear a clunk
@@aaronflores4916 did you get it figured out? I’m having the same issue
@@Seede112 Same here on a 2006 Passat. Even with the torx screw fully tightened, the cylinder can be pulled out without resistance.
Sir just a question does it have left hand and right hand side this lock
Hey what does it mean if when i pull door handle car door wont open but if i hit the handle and lock it will open
hi cody, any idea what is part no for 04 jeeta left door lock . i can't find it.

Where is the ignition lock video?
I can't find it... I'm having the exact same prob, changing everything now...!

Would it be as easy on a 2000 jetta 2.0 ?
where can I buy the replacement?
very helpful
same exact thing for my 2002 passat glx
Yeah, won't you need a new key to gain access for the new door lock? Where would I get a new one?
How loose does the screw have to be
How would you be able to fix my old lock besides going out buying another door lock
But when you change the door lock, the key is not going to be the same one??
Mario Z You should change the ignition too if you have lost all keys
the tumblr came out when i was replacing my lock module and now I cant open the door to do this.....any advice?

Well i was lucky and had all the locks from the parts jetta i bought so i changed all of my locks i had a bad drivers door and trunk lock
how do i put my lock rod back in?
No easy fix there those are weird lock cylinders only way to get the same is order it from VW which sux those laser cut keys suck
You should have opened the lock and rebuilt it. Now you have a key for the door and a key for the ignition.
Chris Ames Don't know if you can rebuild these locks... and it would only be worthwhile if you broke this one
I had a mk4 golf and had to rebuild the cylinder, they're all the same im sure

I'll buy that black cover from you LOL....
