I'm a graffiti artist and I've been using those pens for many years and I do really like them. The only other paint pen that competes is the Molotow 1 for all acrylic paint pens. They offer a different color palette then the posca and they come in several different nib sizes and they offer interchangeable nibs.
There's 4-5 comparable western brands if you can live with 20-30 color sets. But yea in the 50+ color set it's just Posca and Molotow. And If you like hard plastic tips like the crossover tips then almost any other brand/line is better than one4alls.

XPaoFey Acrylic Paint Markers are a game-changer for my art. The color range is amazing, and the dual-tip design is super versatile. The paint flows smoothly, dries fast, and the vibrant finish is top-notch. They've become my go-to choice!
Here in Europe Posca pens are pretty popular! Back in high school, all my artsy friends were super fond of them because you can draw on almost anything with them (notebooks, binders, pencil cases, desks...) and they come in a lot of fun colours. And the fact that they're not cheap made them really treasured possessions.
I’m a bit late to the posca party but I now really want to try them out properly. I use them for line art but have never tried to create a full piece. I’m surprised you didn’t mention gesso as an option, because I’ve heard a lot of people use that 🤔
So glad to hear you talk about the rough tips! I’ve ALWAYS found my POSCA pens to be a little rough on the paper and I try to use them lightly and carefully to avoid pulling. I always assumed I had a faulty batch so it’s good to hear that this is just how they are... 🤷♂️
This brings back good memories. Uni Posca’s were very popular in the Netherlands. Early nineties all cool kids at my highschool had these for graffiti tagging. I started using Uni Posca’s myself when i was studying architecture and always had much success using them for presentation drawings on coloured paper. I still have some pens lying around. Will look for them and introduce them to my kids :)
A Posca pen project for fun that looks amazing:I use the amazing Posca pens primarily for mixed media, mostly abstract paintings on canvas. She was saying at the end if you push the nib down too hard, the paint will stream out (or something to that effect). That feature is built into the Posca pens on purpose. The nibs retract perfectly back into the pens housing if you push down on the nib. What I do is have my canvas on a 45 to 90 degree angle. I push down on the nib and it releases streams of acrylic paint (that is what Poscas color is made of) that drip brilliantly down your canvas or paper.. If you do it a number of times, depending on what effect you are going for, you can use one color, or twenty if you like. It makes a better effect than the 'drip method' with acrylic pens and water. It can use up a lot of the Posca markers paint, so can be rather expensive. A lot of people do the rain effect. This is where you draw or paint, or use Posca markers to draw a person holding an umbrella. Push down on the nib of the marker with canvas or paper on a board at around a 75% angle. Use one color, or 20 (large pen). Have the person and their umbrella taped off with masking tape. You can pause, then start flow again a few times to look more like real rain (from Mars?). Fill paper with rain. Do at an angle as well to give a wind effect. Let dry, frame, hang in your child's bedroom.

I haven't used posca pens on bristol paper, but I would recommend trying it. It might pill up less than on watercolor paper; it is specifically made for markers so it is extremely smooth and fairly thick.
Thanks for going over the basics. I haven't had pen problems but it was handy knowing I could pull the nib out if needed. Thanks for all your hard work! 🤗❤️👍🏽💯
When this video came out, I watched it and added posca pens to my wish list. I just bought them (finally!) and I’m happy to re-watch the video and figure these cool pens out!
@Ana Banana here in sweden it’s the opposite.. i really want to wear a mask but everyone treats me like an alien for it.. hopefully I won’t get covid again, because pneumonia and coughing blood/ not being able to breathe and waking up with the feeling of suffocating wasn’t exactly fun.. 😕
I don't know if someone already said this but posca pen are amazing on oil painting paper such as "Figueras" by canson (?) or "tela" by Fabriano. Those paper have some kind of gesso on it and the pen slides much better. Also the paint isn't absorbed right away so they can blend beautifully. Which probably means that's you can use a transparent/white gesso on many paper to make it work in the same way. Also the "Uni person" (French: représentant commercial) that comes to the shop I work at, advise to store all of them horizontally (that's why there are presented that way) so that the pigment doesn't make a big block at the bottom of the marker and it's easier to disperse it in the medium each time you want to use it. Other thing that he said (haven't watch the entire video yet): if the nib is dried you can let it sit in water for a night and then it's reusable.
Great information!!! I was just introduced to Posca pens and purchased one through Amazon to try on a project of mine. This video helped me to understand the pen, and to avoid unwanted issues. Thanks!
If you want to use paper but don't want it to pill, try using high grade marker paper. It's pressed fine so that the paper doesn't soak up ink as easily, and so that it doesn't rip under the friction of a rough marker tip. I use *Bee Paper: Aquabee* paper with my Prismacolors, and it works great. I've worked it hard with pencil, marker, and even watercolor (though it isn't meant for that) and it never pills.
It's strange that to you posca pens are a "new" thing in stores, here in Milan (Italy) i remember them in stationery stores at least since I was 11 (2010) and even earlier in elementary school
@@fuggiola they were probably a simmilar concept, and posca pens took the ideea and resold it, bringing back a long forgotten concept and apparently having a lot of succes
Thank you for this video! I am a new to Poscas, and while making a color swatch list, I noticed some pens were more streaky/watery than others. I thought I may have gotten a bad batch, but seeing how much you had to shake the pens, and that demonstration of the pink going from watery to opaque, was super helpful and reassures me that I just need to shake them more 🙏
Yeah, I love doing handstyles with the huge chisel tip ones. I also put a bit of clear coat on posca tags since they’re water based, just helps it last longer
Great tips thanks for sharing. Perhaps for those who don't want the pilling of the paper, using gesso first on the paper will protect the paper 😊 just a thought, it's what I do. 😊🖌🎨
Use Crescent RendR paper. It's the best paper I've ever used. I do heavy ink work and the only issue I've had with the paper is minor feathering which is easily fixed by bending it back and/or pressing it. And, it smells amazing (If you don't like the smell of certain papers, you're not an artist! haha). But yeah, it's great for anything that tends to bleed through or pill. It's a smooth paper made for being able to just dump ink on it, and it doesn't bleed through. You will hit some pilling depending on how hard you're working an area, how heavy your hand is, and what you're using. But, overall it's great paper for any medium. I like lining pens (Micron is my main brand) and brush makers (Ohuhu only because Copic makers are stupidly expensive). That's what I use the most. But I have used paint markers on it too (DecoColor) and it held up rather well. Anyway, thanks for the video. Just thought I would throw my two cents in.
Thank you so much for this! I literally just got three pretty colours of POSCA pens today and this really helped because I was a bit clueless when I tried this on the paper and it started tearing it up a tiny bit, so thank you!
Hiya Kasey! I know you probably won’t see this, but hey, what’s the harm in trying? 😁 So, I recently saw some markers in an art store (I’m British so the store was hobby craft) and they were called “colour changing markers”! I decided to ask any of my friends if they knew about them and one of my friends had some! Unfortunately, they had been lying in her draw for so long that they dried out, but I’d love to see you try them! By the way, I’m pretty sure they were kids markers, so I wouldn’t expect much. 😊 Lots and lots of love- MEEEEEE!! 😆
They’re just exactly what they say they are. They’re coloured marker pens with a clear pen which, when run over the top of the colours on paper, changes their colour. Red to yellow, purple to blue, green to red, etc. I don’t know how leaving them in a drawer could have dried them out so much though, unless left without lids on.
I have found that Canson XL water color paper works really well as paper for posca too! =O It pills very little, but the rough surface causes splattering with the 1m plastic nibs, so be careful when using those!
Hey, I've seen you drawing with different mediums, like coffee and tea, and I don't know if anyone's suggested this or not, but you should try painting with juice from berries! I accidentally dropped a blackberry in my sketchbook, and it looks almost like watercolor. I love seeing you paint with different mediums, and I love your videos so much. You inspire me a lot.
ello.. graffiti artist here, thanks a bunch for this. paint markers are almost always needed in the graffiti art world so this was a huge help. For example shine into pieces or just simply going over other colors. oh and also, tagging with posca pens isn't exactly the best
As a graffiti artist, I can say that these things are great. Although I prefer alcohol based paint markers, like DecoColor, these are SOO opaque and perfect for basically any dry, somewhat smooth surface, and affordable. I usually use these on my school folders😂
I'm getting my first posca set this year (hopefully by next month) and I'm already so excited to see what I can achieve with them 🥺🥺 this was reaaaally helpful kasey thank you so much!!!
As a graffiti artist im curious if u ever tried molotow paint markers? Becuz in the graffiti community they have the reputation of being the best paint markers in the world and was wondering how they would compare against these posca markers
Itz MalKitty If you don’t get it then you’re probably too young and it’s better that way. Savor your youth and/or innocence, you can’t ever get it back my dear😊♥️

I'm colouring with Poscas 1m, 3 m and 5 m in a Hannah Karlzon colouring book and the paper does not pill. It's a double page in Posca only and it's great!

THis is really helpful, thank you!
Inactially prefer that hey're individually plastic wrapped. That way i'm sure i don't get a pen that's already been used.
it’s a waste of plastic, and you can ask for a refund if your afraid it’s been used
Doesn't really matter actually :)
And could be done better with a paper safety seal
i like the plastic for that reason, but i don’t like that they’re creating more waste by individually wrapping them :/
When you buy them new the nib should have any paint and you should have to push down to fill the clear nib with ink. If you buy a pack of posca pens.
In the shop, you can just check the nib. If it has any color, you can tell it's been used. If it's white, you're good to go.
It's strange that to you posca pens are a "new" thing in stores, here in Milan (Italy) i remember them in stationery stores at least since I was 11 (2010) and even earlier in elementary school
But art is a way bigger part of culture in Italy. So I guess, it isn't that weird after all.
they were super popular in the 80s! my mom says that every kid wanted them to decorate their backpacks, shoes, school diaries, etc...
@@fuggiola they were probably a simmilar concept, and posca pens took the ideea and resold it, bringing back a long forgotten concept and apparently having a lot of succes
They were definitely posca pens! I'm italian too and I remember they were super popular in the 90s and even now you can find them basically everywhere

Thank you for this video! I am a new to Poscas, and while making a color swatch list, I noticed some pens were more streaky/watery than others. I thought I may have gotten a bad batch, but seeing how much you had to shake the pens, and that demonstration of the pink going from watery to opaque, was super helpful and reassures me that I just need to shake them more 🙏
!DO NOT PUSH THE TIP OF THE PEN IN! I’m now a bright yellow color
I do a lot of graffiti, and yes. Poscas still are nearly everyone’s favorite. Whether it be work on paper, or tags on signs, Poscas are the go to.
I just commented similarly. THEN I thought, "hmmm....I bet other people mentioned gesso too" and bothered to start scrolling the comments.
@@christopherw.griffin3768 great minds think alike and all that 😉 lol T x
THE QUALITY IS REALLY GOOD!!!
do posca art on other surfaces please! 🙏🏼
She did one on wood
Yeah they work on everything I’ve tried
You're amazing Kasey, I love your energy and your art❤️❤️❤️😊
Thank you so much for this! I literally just got three pretty colours of POSCA pens today and this really helped because I was a bit clueless when I tried this on the paper and it started tearing it up a tiny bit, so thank you!
Thanks so much. I am a beginner and this video has cleared all my doubts
I've totally damaged the nib on a new Posca pen, so it definitely can happen to them.
Hiya Kasey!
I know you probably won’t see this, but hey, what’s the harm in trying? 😁
So, I recently saw some markers in an art store (I’m British so the store was hobby craft) and they were called “colour changing markers”! I decided to ask any of my friends if they knew about them and one of my friends had some! Unfortunately, they had been lying in her draw for so long that they dried out, but I’d love to see you try them! By the way, I’m pretty sure they were kids markers, so I wouldn’t expect much. 😊
Lots and lots of love-
MEEEEEE!!
Wah I finally get to watch a movie within minutes of it being released and I don't own a single Posca Pen. 🤣🤣And I want them so bad!
Posca pen
Starting a Monday with a Kasey Golden video is the way to go. Am I right or am I right?
You're right! Or... hm... maybe you're right. I'm not sure now...
@@ARTURIEL Haha! Good one!
It's Tuesday.
As a graffiti artist, I can say that these things are great. Although I prefer alcohol based paint markers, like DecoColor, these are SOO opaque and perfect for basically any dry, somewhat smooth surface, and affordable.
I usually use these on my school folders😂
Whats your tag?
I'm getting my first posca set this year (hopefully by next month) and I'm already so excited to see what I can achieve with them 🥺🥺 this was reaaaally helpful kasey thank you so much!!!
How have you been with the posca?
@@albasaezz I couldn't get them cus it wouldn't ship to my country due to covid😭 i might try this year again lol

As a graffiti artist im curious if u ever tried molotow paint markers?
Becuz in the graffiti community they have the reputation of being the best paint markers in the world and was wondering how they would compare against these posca markers
Agreed...
Wow this colorful markers are so amazing 🤩😃😁😸😺🙀🤩🤔🥰👋😀😁😃😆😄😍🥰😘😝😋🥳🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
Artist in my high school: I don’t like them cus they don’t blend well
Me: I like to draw the s thing on walls
I wish I knew how to draw lol
penguin Galaxy person google it it’s called the s thing
The cool S?
Sol yeah that only the “cool kids” knew how to draw
Wow! This is so well timed Kasey, I just got a bunch of these for my birthday so this is really helpful!
Take a shot every time she says “posca pens”
Sara Costa ****pin
#AlcoholPoisonong 💀
I’d be alive and well because she pronounces it “pins” 😎
I’m drunk now 🥵🥴
Yeah. Im still sober as hell . Shes saying posca “pInS” xD
Just bought posca and needed this thank you so much
Wow, your art shops are amazing! I just have a Michael's that carries literally nothing. Amazon it is!
Me:sees this video
Also me:i want to have these things in my life
Me and also averyone: wait i dont have the money
Yeah I don't have money..
But I have parents
Or like me: oh wait I don't have skill or time
Hnm the biggest marker costs around 4 dollars so.. I dont see your point tbh.
“Start pumping the tip” curse my dirty mind..
“You can also blow on them”
KASEY STOP PFFT
Also right at the end she basically said that "if you pump it too much, it just gushes out". So....
Haha someone else is actually dirty minded and understood it......grossly....
I don’t get it.
Itz MalKitty
If you don’t get it then you’re probably too young and it’s better that way. Savor your youth and/or innocence, you can’t ever get it back my dear😊♥️
Avelee Andrews that’s what my friends tell me, I’m apparently the most innocent person in my class :) im also the youngest. :)
"Posca pen drive in my backpack for me and you "
What amazing words👏👏
Me:Wait why am i watching this i have no posca pen or even the money to buy them
Also me: its interesting
Lol meeeee
JedrinDraws OwO mood
That is exactly why I watch these!
I have no money but I have lots of time
We watch art videos because
1. We like art
2. We like art supplies
3. We don’t have art supplies of our own to play with
4. If you’re me, you watch videos instead of doing art with your own one set of watercolors.
Here in Italy you can find Posca pens ANYWHERE. In art stores, discounts, ikea, anywhere.
U lucky litTLE-

Seems a little fishy...
I’m not sorry

Lol
I'm getting these for Christmas. ThNks!
I don’t and probably will never have Posca Pens. 😩
I have 160gsm bullet journal, and the paper in that seems to not pill on me.
Also, Hot Press is mah fave!
Kasey! Get out of my head! I literally just ordered my first set of Posca Pens yesterday😳
i just ordered mine today!
When I saw the title I was expecting a runthrough of different sized and shaped tips on the pens!
I now learned a new word, "Nibs" :D
Great vid!
Yayyyyy I jus baught it last week and I was in need of sum tips thanks
I usually buy the bright colors in thin points also just to get the corners i cant do with the thicker ones
Whenever I watch kaseys videos I feel inspired to draw
I take out my pens...

I'm colouring with Poscas 1m, 3 m and 5 m in a Hannah Karlzon colouring book and the paper does not pill. It's a double page in Posca only and it's great!
