The average Asgardian is stronger than your standard human. In the comics, they are not as strong on Midgard (Earth) as they are on Asgard (though still stronger than your run-of-the-mill human). Thor is especially powerful for an Asgardian. First, because he's Odin's son. Second, in the comics anyway, his mother was believed to be Gaia an Elder God of the Earth, which was explained as an attempt by Odin to have a son that would maintain his level of power regardless of whether he was in Asgard or not. More recently though, the comics have introduced the idea that the Phoenix Force is Thor's true mother (if you want to take it at its word). At any rate, Thor is freakishly powerful even among Asgardians.
Thor's not a "Funny Character"...but I believe the Producers realized (especially after Ghostbusters) that Chris Hemsworth has great comedic timing and steered into it. So far Thor really hasn't had a great on screen personality, But making him Bombastic, Overconfident and Charming, grafted a Character onto Hemsworth that he can play. Kinda like Drax in "Guardians of the Galaxy". Being Unfiltered, Bombastic and Boundaryless is not how the character is in the comics, but it's something that Dave Bautista had a hand in crafting as an actor. Same goes for Chris Hemsworth's Thor.

As a matter of fact they were serious about The Revengers. If you see, in one of the chapters of 'Loki' where Loki is checking the Ragnarok file The Revengers are mentioned in that file.
There are 3 types of Asgardians: 1) Gods/Goddesses: These are the ones who have a far extended life span (4000-5000 years+), increased stamina/strength/healing, as well as the gift of seiðr (the magic of Asgard). This includes Thor, Odin, Frigga, Loki, Heimdall, etc. Frigga shared her magic with Loki when he was a boy, and since Frost Giants have extended life spans, this elevated him to a God status on Yggdrasil. 2) Long-Lived: These are people who have a much longer life span (3000 or so years), but do not have seiðr. Lady Sif and the Warriors Three, and probably around 15-20% of Asgard's population fall under this category. 3) Mortal: Asgardians who have no seiðr and live a normal span of years (around a century). While they are closest to humans in lifespan, all Asgardians are trained in combat and are somewhat harder to kill than a human. I hope that helps explain. :)
@@Cream-2128 I'm going by strictly the MCU Asgardians and my knowledge of Norse mythology. In Dark World, Odin says they are not Gods (meaning immortal), they live and die just as humans do. Loki replies "Give or take 5000 years." To me, that translates to 5000 years plus the average life of a human, which is 100 years tops usually. So 5100 years +/- an extra 300. In the same movie, they talk about the last convergence 5000 years prior, and Odin wasn't alive, it was his father Bor that battled Malekith. So the lifespan of the God-level ones is probably around 5000-5500 years. The average Asgardian does not have a place on Yggdrasil (legit is called "the tree of life", which provides the Gods their magic/extended life) unless they are one of the lucky ones born with only enough magic for an extended life span through random occurrence or genetics. But even then, it's not near the 5000+ years of the Gods.
@@crispychrissy Mcu has no clue what they’re doing so you can’t go by that. Thor literally mentions Odin fighting surtur a half million years earlier. Then the mcu fixed that dumb ass we are not gods conversation in Ragnarok by correctly referring to them as gods.
@@crispychrissy also Odin mentions before the dawn of light he never says 5000 years ago. We also never know if Odin is born yet or not we just know that Bor lead the attack. I would go based more on marvel comics rather that mythology the movies are supposed to be based on comics not the mythology which changed a lot. Even though the mcu did not get asgardians right at all anyway.
@@Cream-2128 The movies aren't right or wrong, they're just different from the comics... which isn't a bad thing. Like I mentioned, my conclusions come from the MCU and Norse mythology alone since Rico is asking for information specifically based on what he's watching in the movies. Interjecting comic book lore and information into what I was explaining has no relevance. You are mistaken on a few things, though. 1) Odin explains that they are not gods, as in omnipotent and immortal, which is correct. They are gods to their people due to their power, longevity, bloodline, and place on Yggdrasil... not gods like the singular monotheistic God of faiths like Christianity and Judaism, so don't get your pantheons twisted. 2) Loki is the one who says "give or take 5000 years" in response to what Odin said, not Odin himself. It's where I got the basis for my general range of their lifespans. Sure, Odin might have already been born back when Bor fought Malekith, but it's pure conjecture on both our parts since we will likely never know. Either way, it does fit into my explanation that he was either not born yet or very young. 3) Thor was obviously being sarcastic when he said Odin killed Surtur "like, half a million years ago", so if you can't see the humor in Thor poking fun at a bored, immortal demon, I'm not sure what to tell you.
Thor films and Guardians are my favorite with the scifi/magic/norse mythology elements. Shang Chi also does a great job with the magic/chinese mythology, cant wait till yall catch up🔥
Helping a brother out, Hulk can speak because he's been Hulk for 2 years straight. If you add up him being in control of the body, it would be around 3 years. So it shows Hulk have a vocabulary of a 3 year old.
Odin is a terrible father.. He had a 1000 years to tell his kids of an evil sister but no he did it on his dying bed and told his kids to deal with it and peaced out.. 😂😂
Everything on this movie just clicks - the comedy of course, but the action is exactly what it needs to be, the world building (Sakaar), the characterization for old & new characters alike, the performances were gold, and the pacing is some of the best I've seen in the MCU. It's easy to forget how much ground they cover in one film, without it feeling jarring or incoherent. It all really works.
4:30 This actor is also in "The Lord of the Rings" (Extended Edition) movies and the "The Boys" show. 2 things I can really recommend reacting to/ watching.
Korg's actor is the Director of this movie (He made the recent movie Free Guy with a trailer feat Deadpool). The GrandMaster is the brother of The Collector both immortal.
Fun fact: The shady acres home scene was filmed in the streets of Brisbane Australia, of an actual downed building, got to stand there and watch it being filmed from across the road.
on the tower where hulk live they have sculptured faces on the outside of former champions of the contest, one face there is Beta Ray Bill, the one that looks a bit like a horse, he is also the wielder of mighty Stormbreaker that have many similar abilities as Mjölner
The Grandmaster is brother of The Collector, played by Benicio Del Toro. They are part of a group of people called The Elders Of The Universe. I love how they got weird, strange, kooky actors to play the Grandmaster and the Collector. If they were to add more Elders Of The Universe, they should add more awkward, strange actors like Nicholas Cage, Aubrey Plaza, Gary Busey and Crispin Glover.
54:06 *Okay so as Asgardians, they do live longer, have better health, more wisdom, but the super strength is only granted to the Royal blood and the warriors who serve/fight with them :)*
The lore of Asgard and the gods that Live there all stem from Norse mythology. Considering they were in Norway I am guessing that’s why Oden said remember this place home right before he dies.
Brilliant reaction guys, as always :D To answer some of the questions: Everyone on Asgard is a god so they are all really strong. But some are stronger than others, most of those become guards and warriors. Since they're based off of Norse Mythology, most of the people on Asgard have individual powers of their own, like some people on Asgard have powers of Growth and Song and things like that. So Thor has always had those powers he has now, he just used to channel them through his hammer, but now he's grown to a point where he doesn't need an object to control it. Fun facts: In original Norse Mythology, Hela and Fenrir (the Wolf) were actually Loki's Children, but Odin feared their roles in Ragnarok so he sealed them away in different ways. He threw Hela back through time and locked her in Helheim (what we call Hell) a realm which was named after her in their time but she named herself when she was sent back through time. Loki also has 4 other children, one of which is a sea serpent called Jormungandr, which is so big that it is wrapped around our Earth , and when it wakes up it signals Ragnaroks beginning. He has an 8-legged horse named Sleipnir which was actually in Thor one, when Odin comes to rescue them from Jotunheim. The other two kids Odin tortures/kills to get back at Loki for helping cause the death of another Asgardian. Also, yes, the Vikings who worshiped the Norse Gods are primarily from Norway and Scandinavia, so that is where Asgard would technically be set in our world back then.
@@Cream-2128 there actually is no "especially" it applies to almost everyone in the MCU, regardless of who they are Ultron isn't Asgardian, for example Thor was alright in the first movie, but they failed to give him the balance between seriousness and asgardian-like comedy, resulting in him being overserious in Thor 2 and a clown in Thor 3
@@leonardolonghi3472 Thor and Loki especially! They have been furthest from their characters in the mcu. Yes ultron was done wrong starting with not being created by Pym. Yes!!!! This is one of my favorite Marvel movies. Can’t wait to watch it again with you guys. Ps, the hands rubbing together is guy code for “It’s Go Time!” LOL
I think the difference between the movie song Asgard isn't a place, but where is people stand. And Hela drawing power from Asgard is actually that knowledge. Hela was banished before Odin realized Asgard was it's people. So she draws power from the physical place, because her ideology of "Asgard is the place." If she realized Asgard had changed to become it's people instead, then even if extremely weakened. I think she still would've managed to survive Surtur. (Edit) Just like how, until the end, Thor was "getting" his power from holding Hammers. He thought Mjolnir was where his power came from. Once Odin spelled it out for him, that it was only to channel his power. He was able to start calling on the lightning without holding a weapon. Likewise, Hela gets her power from the people too. But since she's still wrapped up on "it's a place." She can't actually use what her full abilities would be.

The thing about Sakar is that time works differently. Loki was only pushed out of the Bifrost moments before Thor, yet had been on Sakar for a couple weeks before Thor's arrival. If hulk left earth two years prior, who knows how long he actually was on Sakar, could potentially be hundreds of years!

As a Kiwi man I'm a little bias, but this is probably my favorite MCU movie. Good comedy, good story, good characters. And good rewatchablility.
Loving the uploads man 🙌
I love how they couldn’t recognize Thor’s buddies as they died trying to help him.
Yeah it sucks that The Warriors Three don't get any love.
Yees! Thor Ragnarok is in my opinion one of the best Marvel movies
Agreed
This blew me away first time I watched it! I laughed so hard! Taika Waititi has a great sense of humour!
(At 57:25) Fenris Wolf is the second individual from the MCU who made the Hulk bleed, after the Abomination _(The Incredible Hulk 2008)_
Valkyrie is an asgradian + an valkyrie of course lol, theyre ancient, they've been protectors of asgars since before thor was even born, so theyre quite strong its not easy to defeat them in hand to hand combat.
Your Marvel series is like a weekly TV show that I can't wait for every Monday
The guy who plays Korg, is the director of Thor Ragnorok. Taika Waititi
Two big ones coming up next, Black Panther and Infinity War.. I am jealous of Monica who is going to be watching some of those moments for the first time, what a feeling…
Same for Rico (Infinity war that is)
AGGHHHHHHH! I freaking love this movie and we're getting closer to Infinity War ❤️
So fun watching this with you! This is my favorite marvel movie, sooo rewatchable!! Hope you guys enjoyed your Christmas! Can’t wait for the next!
I love Mondays because at lunch time at work, I can watch Rico & Monica haha best start of the week :D
Happy new year guys! You both Rock!
In the comics, Hela the Goddess of Death is actually Lokis daughter
Not in comics, but in Norse Mythology which the comics takes inspiration from. In comics, Loki is still Thor’s brother and Hela is still Odin’s daughter
Rubs hands... "You're a wizard, Thor."
I'm so excited for this!! It feels like it's been forever when it's just been a week😂can't wait to see what you think of this film! I hope you both had an amazing Christmas
FYI the part of Korg is played by the film's director, Taika Waititi.
The significance of that moment where Odin says 'I love you my sons' plural! Brief but important moment
As a matter of fact they were serious about The Revengers. If you see, in one of the chapters of 'Loki' where Loki is checking the Ragnarok file The Revengers are mentioned in that file.
Been waiting for this one :^). Explains where Thor and hulk were during civil war
There are 3 types of Asgardians:
1) Gods/Goddesses: These are the ones who have a far extended life span (4000-5000 years+), increased stamina/strength/healing, as well as the gift of seiðr (the magic of Asgard).
If we are going based on marvel asgardians live way longer than 5000 yeaes
@@Cream-2128
I'm going by strictly the MCU Asgardians and my knowledge of Norse mythology.
Shang Chi also does a great job with the magic/chinese mythology, cant wait till yall catch up🔥
This is one of my favorite Marvel movies
Excited Rico with the Mr Burns hand rub is always nice to see.
fun fact the actor playing thor in loki play was 1 of his brothers and matt damon played loki
Also, Sam Neill(Jurassic Park) played Odin.
I just realised the one using DES TROY is William butcher from boys😳🤯
Korg's actor is the Director of this movie (He made the recent movie Free Guy with a trailer feat Deadpool). The GrandMaster is the brother of The Collector both immortal.
The music at 34:41 is the Asgard theme from Stargate SG1.
Sounds like it for sure
Fun fact: The shady acres home scene was filmed in the streets of Brisbane Australia, of an actual downed building, got to stand there and watch it being filmed from across the road.
1:14:50 Rico totally just remembered Captain Marvel but didn’t wanna spill those beans yet lol
I got to watch this movie again thanks for the reminder❤
on the tower where hulk live they have sculptured faces on the outside of former champions of the contest, one face there is Beta Ray Bill, the one that looks a bit like a horse, he is also the wielder of mighty Stormbreaker that have many similar abilities as Mjölner
Crispin Glover would be perfect!🤣
54:06 *Okay so as Asgardians, they do live longer, have better health, more wisdom, but the super strength is only granted to the Royal blood and the warriors who serve/fight with them :)*
I’ve been so hyped for this reaction
P.S, love both of you and your reactions
The lore of Asgard and the gods that Live there all stem from Norse mythology. Considering they were in Norway I am guessing that’s why Oden said remember this place home right before he dies.
*odin not oden, oden is the national hotpot of Japan
Brilliant reaction guys, as always :D
To answer some of the questions:
Everyone on Asgard is a god so they are all really strong.
Fun facts:
In original Norse Mythology, Hela and Fenrir (the Wolf) were actually Loki's Children, but Odin feared their roles in Ragnarok so he sealed them away in different ways.
Not everyone on Asgard is a god actually. Most are stronger and live longer than humans, but they definitely aren't all gods.
Just so you know, your "fun fact" applies to Marvel Comics too
MCU simply loves to shit lots of backgrounds, personalities and characters
@@leonardolonghi3472 yup they do especially with the asgardians they didn’t get them right. Loki and Thor never acted like themselves.
@@Cream-2128 there actually is no "especially"
it applies to almost everyone in the MCU, regardless of who they are
Ultron isn't Asgardian, for example
Thor was alright in the first movie, but they failed to give him the balance between seriousness and asgardian-like comedy, resulting in him being overserious in Thor 2 and a clown in Thor 3
@@leonardolonghi3472 Thor and Loki especially! They have been furthest from their characters in the mcu. Yes ultron was done wrong starting with not being created by Pym. Asgardians though as a whole was just done ridiculous all the way down the line. Executioner using regular guns and somehow they work on Hela minions it’s just ridiculous.
Yes!!!! This is one of my favorite Marvel movies. Can’t wait to watch it again with you guys.
Ps, the hands rubbing together is guy code for “It’s Go Time!” LOL
Really liked this movie. Best thing this Franchise did was hire Taika and changing up Thor a bit. Excited for Love and Thunder!
As if having Thor vomit bad jokes while his home is under double threat (Hela and Ragnarok) is an improvement...
I wish they gave Thor the Russo brothers
Don't worry you're gonna love loki as time passes
In Ghostbusters, the Gatekeeper and the Keymaster were two different things. Here, they are one and the same, Heimdall. 😁
Let’s go!!! I’m so glad from another reaction you guys are great 😊
I think the difference between the movie song Asgard isn't a place, but where is people stand. And Hela drawing power from Asgard is actually that knowledge.
Hela was banished before Odin realized Asgard was it's people.
So she draws power from the physical place, because her ideology of "Asgard is the place."
If she realized Asgard had changed to become it's people instead, then even if extremely weakened.
I love you all so much♥️♥️ I’ve been waiting for you guys reaction
everytime rico rubs his hands together he reminds me of whenever i see a fly land on a surface and rub their hands together to clean them
I Love this channel, Rico and Monica are my favorite UA-camrs, so excited when we reach Endgame 😃👍
Btw: That beginning where Thor is narrating that iconic “ That’s what heroes do!” Is so 👌🔥🔥🔥
You guys are so wholesome, love your videos no matter the movie
1:02:23 Didn't Odin imply to Thor in this movie that Thor's power comes from himself at 55:11 (and not from Asgard (the place))?
I wonder has Monica got a personal favorite movie, that she's trying to get you to watch?
Thor's power doesn't come from a place or people, Thor was born with his power and Loki's powers were taught by his mother.
Loki was also born with his powers he learned magic but loki can still lift tons of weight.
@@Cream-2128 yea because he's a frost giant
@@Jayjay-ef2gt that and he is given asgardian powers blessed by Odin as all asgardians can like over 20 tons. The movies obviously don’t really get asgardians so that part is left out.
Oh my god I’ve been sooo excited for you to watch ragnarok
I like all the talk, you bring up some valid points that are interesting to hear out loud.
1:14:11 Wanda Maximoff is the top 2 strongest heros in the movies and when you see Captain Marvel as well
Can’t wait to see you guys watch infinity war, endgame, and far from home
I’m very much looking forward to the Avengers: Infinity War reaction!
Next one is Black Panther right?
Rico will never be able to pull off a surprise proposal because his hands will be rubbing together so fast that the smell of burning flesh will alert her. ;-)
One of the best mcu movie imo Kate blanchett killed this role
Thor Ragnarok and Deadpool are the two best Marvel movies that I can Shirley say are my favourite❤
They were still building his edifice, so probably no more than a few years.
Did u guys notice in 41:53 banner was dancing himself among the crowd
This movie was the best cinema experience ever. Nobody could stop laughing the entire movie.
Dunno if it was mentioned, but there's an extension of Korg's "rock-paper-scissors" humour in his story; in not printing enough pamphlets, the rock was defeated by paper.
Hey Rico, are you and Monica going to react to the MCU shows, on Disney+? I can just hear Monica now, “there’s shows? There’s already over 20 movies.” 😂
It’s crazy to believe they really keep so much of the film in the reaction
omg you guys are close to infinity war I'm so excited!!! I love both of your reactions. And thor Ragnarok is one of my favorite in top 3 mcu movies. this movie is funny and action packed. to me infinity war, civil war and thor 3 is one of best movies
Rico when you and Monica get to Spiderman No Way Home, make sure you watch the Tobey Maguire Trilogy and the Andrew Garfield 2 movies beforehand as the villians from those movies are in NWH and its SUPER important to have seen all 5 !! Plus it means you have extra video ideas.
Matt Damon as Fake Loki, and another Hemsworth brother playing Fake Thor was my favorite part of this movie. I can't wait to see them again in Thor 4, lol
Hulk spent actually (possibly) around 362,880 years on Sakaar.
By the Norse myths Hela is the godess of death that is true but she is Loki's daughter along with the big wolf that she has in this movie I just forgot his name at the moment. It is interesting that they chose to make her their sister here and I do love that actress. I liked this movie but I rather the first one personally. Tessa Thomson is an amazing actress so seeing her here as such a strong character was amazing. Hela here is amazing and Cate played her so very well.
there are a lot of comic moments in marvel movies to show they dont take themselves so seriously
Girl…Yes he is strong when he use his hammer but he is god of thunder he is already strong😌
I always wanted to see Thor and Loki would work together against their enemies.
This Skurge man is the guy who appear as cameo in Agents of Shield Season 1
Asgard is both the people and the place. Hela only draws her power from the place where as Thor draws his from both the people and the place.
"I have been falling...for THIRTY MINUTES!"
