I appreciate the comments everything you talk about on your program and you're hunting. And I like that I want you quite a bit and enjoy your program. Thank you very much
If you’re looking for a durable option for the hide with paws and claws on I would suggest making your own from bedsheets. Take a set of cotton queen bed sheets and sew them together. Basically making a giant pillow case and put the bear hide inside of it. You can go to thrift store and get some for cheap.
I guided for black bear last spring so it’s awesome to hear facts I didn’t know about! They are majestic animals and there is just something so other-worldly about these beautiful animals.
Would love to see an entire series on meat preparation! My family has always processed our own meat but this will be my first year going after bears specifically and I am unsure what to do with the various cuts of meat for stew, sausage, burger(?) etc.! Would also love to see more about canning and how you prepare the bone broth so I can minimize waste of future harvests! Thanks Brian!
Another informative video on important care for the respect any Kill deserves some people call it old school but its just ethics that younger folks seem to lack unless they were born to a hunting family like I was Thanks again good show Hank the Tank
Hey Brian kudos as always for the only pod cast I listen to anymore, here in parts of Texas we loose about 70% of our whitetail deer fawn crop to coyotes, although I am unaware of wild hog predation , I would not be surprised if there as a significant number for them as well, again keep up the excellent job , stay Gritty
Thanks Brian, another real interesting video. About the smoked deer leg, how much salt are we talking about for the ageing/curing process? I have recently purchased a Treager grill and am ichin" to try that out with a Fallow deer leg.
People assume the meat in the store has not hung un refrigerated ,if they only knew .I'm scared of fly's getting on the meat but ya throw it in a creek if I need to soundd like the best option if needed .I was told to just use pillow cases for game bags
You should really think about making a book for black bear hunting. It seems to be incredibly underrated by folks that haven’t tried it. I get people obsessing about deer hunting, but bear hunting doesn’t get enough respect.
We use a big heavy duty contractor bag. We will put the meat or hide or both inside the bag. Push as much air out as possible. We will then tie or tape the bag shut and it will keep the water out.
What about citric acid on hide to keep flies away? Would like some info about bear beds and how they use them. Found one in New York and tracks going every which way from it. Could see the parking lot at wildlife area from it. Need the pop up comments on the movies. That is how I get my wife to watch your hunts. She watches for all the fun facts.
I didn’t know you weren’t supposed to keep meat dry until like 2 years ago. I’m 22. And hunted all my life everyone I knows throws their squared deer in an ice chest for a week and keep it drained and with ice for 4-10 days before processing it.
Hey Brian, are you based out of Colorado? Just moved from Florida, former Everglades hunter (wild boar) so was brushing up on REAL hunting in Colorado! Love the vids and gear pop ups! Already shooting my bow to get in shape, but my basement is only 17 yards, and golf course out back has some areas I could shoot but have to deal with some funny glares when they see me then the target! 😂😂😂
I would love to see the heart rate of a ppissed off bear. They can go from 0-110 fast. They look so cute and cuddly. Then you see them fight and they are fast as hell. So they can go down to 8 bpm during hibernation, what do they go to at game on? Fun
7:20 LOL She doesn't throw it in and go about her day, that pressure gauge has to be monitored, and is a pain in the a$$... "and before you know it, you have like cans of delicious meat"... HAHAHAHA... ya, it's magic.

I learned more from this than any article, story, pr "tv" show ive ever seen. Keep workin hard my man
pro tip : watch series at Kaldrostream. Me and my gf have been using them for watching loads of movies during the lockdown.
@Abdullah Matteo Definitely, been using KaldroStream for months myself :D
Dude this was so informative. Plethora of information! As a new hunter with no hunters in the family, this is more helpful than you could imagine
Same here, brother!!! Where at are you located?
@@Robert-bh1ox Same! I'm in Washington. Would love to find guys to go on backcountry style hunts with, Gritty style. Where are you located?
@@evanlittle114 I’m in Washington too! Small world!!! I’ve been doing backpacking bear hunts for the last couple years.
Decided to bear hunt for the first time this year was a blast my research lead me to find you guys really awesome info and love all the content
I appreciate the comments everything you talk about on your program and you're hunting. And I like that I want you quite a bit and enjoy your program. Thank you very much
THE best bear channel on UA-cam. One of the best if not the best bear video on UA-cam

Great job Brian, thanks for keeping these going...really need them now being stuck at home.
I guided for black bear last spring so it’s awesome to hear facts I didn’t know about! They are majestic animals and there is just something so other-worldly about these beautiful animals.
I would love to go on a trip in the blues it looks like some good looking country. I'm in the Cascades
I’ve heard Blues is some steep, tough country! I live next to north cascades national park!
Lots of good information. Thanks.
Not a big bear hunter, but do buy a tag every yr in Colorado. Glad I listened to the cast today picked up a few great tips. Thanks Bros!!
I dig all the enthusiasm with every topic !
Would love to see an entire series on meat preparation!

Great video, was waiting for the garbage bag in the water "technique". Nature's refrigerator, it's not just for beer.
I have been wanting to get into Bear hunting, and this really helped me learn more. Thank you.
Another informative video on important care for the respect any Kill deserves some people call it old school but its just ethics that younger folks seem to lack unless they were born to a hunting family like I was Thanks again good show Hank the Tank
I did pastrami with a hind from last years bear. Came out really good.
Thanks for the Great Tips. Already Started My Spring Bear Hunting in Oregon. Nothing so far but will keep going out.
Broadheads & Bobbers - Right on! I love that!
Great, informative show! Thanks so much!
I'm Montana bound for bear in a month. I've been learning a whole lot of good applicable info from the Gritty. Got my tag in my pocket!
Brian Long - Thank you Brian! 🙏🏼
You should think about putting a wild game cook book together that would be awesome
Trying to figure out what week to head out to ID for springs bear.
Thanks Brian, another real interesting video. About the smoked deer leg, how much salt are we talking about for the ageing/curing process?
I have recently purchased a Treager grill and am ichin" to try that out with a Fallow deer leg.
Legend What a great interview.
Would it be possible to utilize Mylar emergency blankets to reflect the heat/sun away from the meat durring the daytime ?
It may work. I have not tried it.
Very good information for a new hunter like me.
Hey Brian, how come y’all don’t ever talk about or use Caribou Gear game bags?
I need to go back and watch your meat canning video again!
People assume the meat in the store has not hung un refrigerated ,if they only knew .I'm scared of fly's getting on the meat but ya throw it in a creek if I need to soundd like the best option if needed .I was told to just use pillow cases for game bags

Just cook it 160 for 3 mins and let stand 3 minutes before eating..trichinella 👊🏻 good stuff
Good video Brian. I never knew that bear meat could hang that long!
Planning on going on my first black bear hunt in Idaho. Very stoke.
Great topic and conversation!
tnywragge - 👊🏼
How do you use the garbage bags in the water and not allow water to get in?
We use a big heavy duty contractor bag. We will put the meat or hide or both inside the bag. Push as much air out as possible. We will then tie or tape the bag shut and it will keep the water out.
Thanks for the information.
Is trichinosis only an issue with ingestion?
Or can one get it through a cut while processing or breaking it down?
Only through ingestion. You can’t get trichinosis through a cut. Trichinosis requires stomach fluids to hatch and enter the muscle.
Awesome podcast. Great info. Looking forward to putting a bear down this fall. Thanks for sharing.
I feel you Brian. I had to move my office to my garage too and I am freezing my ass off lol.
Great info
Hey Brian, Can you post Suzanne’s venison soup/stew recipe?
Mad Man Podcast - Will do 👍🏼
What week do the black bears in ID come out of den this year you think?
Howdy bros...I grew up eating canned meat of all kinds including farm critters. It last at least a year and taste unbelievably good.
I have an archery bear tag for this August in commiefornia. I can't wait to harvest a bear. Great info 👍🏼

Thanks for the info, hoping to go bear hunting this fall for the first time
36:34 With all due respect, I have never seen a bear marbled in fat, ever. Is this something you will find in the Southern US?
I didn’t know you weren’t supposed to keep meat dry until like 2 years ago. I’m 22. And hunted all my life everyone I knows throws their squared deer in an ice chest for a week and keep it drained and with ice for 4-10 days before processing it.

12:40
Hey Brian, kind of off topic, but what ever happened the that Scottish fella you used to have on in the beginning? He was funny.
Are you going to bow hunt for bear or rifle?
Nick Yaw - We’re planning to rifle hunt. But we have 3 bear tags-we might bowhunt a later stretch of the hunt if we tag out quickly with the rifles.
Sounds like your smoked venison leg was essentially country ham made out of venison.
Crab Brought it back to the US , Mmmmm isn't southeast Alaska in the US ......... :)
Richard Bowles - Ha ha! Oops...
Richard Bowles - In my defense, Ketchikan feels kinda like its own country. 😉
"...back to the United States"...I think you meant to say, '...back to the lesser 48.' That's what Alaskans call the lower forty-eight.
Lol I figured I would bust on ya a little ! Love your pod cast brother !!
yotersmitt - 😂
I had crabs once 😳..only kidding
mmmm ivermectin tastes good.....
