Just got all my respect for not going long. I am an archer and most harvests are under 30 feet. I can shoot out to 120 on my pins and maybe 200 holdover on a range but i passed on a nice opportunity a few days back just due to range being outside my comfort zone. Losing animals is the worst thing ever.
Got my first bear over memorial weekend and I listened to Ryan on his podcast say just front of center of center. This was the quickest kill I have ever made in my life. Thanks for keeping us educated along the way and sharing the knowledge!
I'm heading out early early morning to get up in the mountains of Eastern Tennessee for my first Black Bear Hunt. Going solo. I know this is an old video but I wanted to say thank you for putting all of this valuable info and your hunts on here for guys like me to learn from.
you mentioned you felt the 140g was too small, its all about bulet placement. i come from northernt BC and the 140g is plenty big enough out of the comon 270 for moose, elk, deer and bear. there is no reason it wouldn't be big enough out of a 6.5.
i used the code gritty with mtn ops and it wasn't working. Tried a bunch of different things to make sure it was not case sensitive or had a number in it or something. Wasn't letting me put in the code. I used another code that I know mtn ops has and still got free shipping, but I was hoping to have the gritty one so brian could get a kickback off it.
No, what I mean is are you measuring from nose to tail to find middle of the middle or are you measuring from base of neck to tail? The middle of the middle would be in two totally different areas based on where the “middle” of the bear is from the nose or from the base of the neck or in front of the shoulders.
Beware of locals being the gatekeeper. From past experience, D.R. might not be on your side. Unauthorized.tv would be the most secure move with rock solid community.
Middle of Middle is good advise assuming perfectly broadside. We generally cut the bear in half and move forward 6" ish, Quartering away....middle of the middle is awesome. Quartering to.....look to exit middle of the body on the offside. I agree bear die quickly when hit well. When not hit well.....they are some of the toughest animals alive. Love your guys videos / podcast.....I just found them a month ago and have been binge watching them. Can't wait to see your 2024 hunts. Our family loves bear hunting. A couple years ago, our spring season was taken away.....I sure do miss it. Maybe out of state spring hunts is what I need to do!!
Hey Brian, in this day of long range shooting, kudos to you guys for limiting the shooting range. Most hunters shouldn't be shooting over 400yds. I hear of too many lost animals. When we hunt, we try to stalk as close as possible...like archery range. And when we blow the stalk, then we shoot. Therefore, most of my shots are way under 100yds. It's a lot more challenging and fun. Having said that I got pinned down stalking an elk this year. I ran out of cover so I shot the elk at 219yds this year. The cool thing is at 200yds it's close enough where I have confidence in hitting exactly where I am aiming. As you all know, at 200 yds, there is a lot less that can go wrong like the animal taking a step or a gust of wind.I shot it in the neck. The elk flipped over and didn't move. Thanks for the center, center aiming on a bear. Unfortunately, I didn't even see a bear this year, though many I have spoken to have. Ironically, the bears spotted were mostly grizzlies. 40 years ago a black bear was my 1st archery kill; Recurve with cedar arrows. Love your work!
Hey Brian, are you guys going to release any bear hunting videos this year? Or are you guys still in a battle with the states/government trying to charge you guys filming fees?
Just a helpful tip: you’ve got to be better at landing the plane. If you’re target audience is non-hunters, the long explanations would be great. If you’re target audience is hunters, we’ve all carried a rifle before. There’s no need to discuss every movement we’ll make with a rifle. We’ve been there. A lot. Like a lot lot. I enjoy your content! But I think stray off topic sometimes and I think you insult our intelligence when we go in depth about how “getting wet makes you heavier”. I hope you can take this in a constructive manner. I look forward to more podcasts!
It's not about being "pussies" and being able to handle the recoil. Yes, there isn't much recoil on a 6.5 RPM. It's about accuracy and keeping the muzzle of the barrel from moving through the shot. A 6.5 RPM with a 130gr bullet is pushing 3200 plus fps in a sub 6.5lb rifle. There is some lift at the muzzle and the muzzle brake is helping eliminate most of that movement to increase accuracy.

Just got back from bear hunting in Montana. I smoked a big boar. 6’8” It was my first bear.

Good info! Heading to Montana Next week, hoping to find a big boy! If you're free, come on out!

Radial vs Side baffle muzzle break. Side baffle is way better than radial for reduction of recoil and kicked up debris.
What make and model brake did Lampers get?
Just what I needed! Missed a shot on a cinnamon Saturday
Hey did you ever find out what muzzle brake Lampers is running?
It’s this one: store.rokslide.com/mobile/ti-pro-3-p78.aspx
respect man! You guys have my respect because of your standards, and efforts. Keep it up. Appreciate you guys. Thanks
Perfect timing, headed out this weekend in hopes of seeing one.
Thanks Brian
This is great! Thanks Brian

Very informative....my whole life I've aimed forward like a deer .......thank you will go center mass from now on.
Welcome to the bear hunting podcast
I used the gritty at mtn ops the other day and it wouldn't work. Customers service told me it was expired and only run it certain times
i had the same issue
Middle of the middle not including the head and neck?
No need to include the head and neck.

6.5 caliber with a muzzle break? Come on guys, you don't look like pussies.
