This saved my project. Thank you so much! 🥰🥰
Yeah no worries. Thanks for the message.
What do I do if this doesn't work for me? I have my image sequence all sequentially named, but DaVinci doesn't recognize them as a sequence nor does it recognize the media folder automatically like it appears to do for you. Well, fixed it - you have to click "media" button at the bottom of the DaVinci interface, then right-click in the window with the folders and add a media file, then it recognizes the sequence, then you can right-click "add it to media bin"
It doesn't work for me too, and your tip doesn't help(
Here’s an updated video

Very clear. Thank you !
Glad to help. Thanks
you should probably mention that you have to set the Frame Display Mode to Sequence... Auto doesn't do it here
Creating a video clip from an image sequence like I show works great no need to change the display settings. Just drag and drop the image sequence into a timeline on the Edit Page. It’s a little faster.
Same its not "just working" for me at all.... very frustrating as it was so easy with adobe!
Try this- much easier

Sure thing!
I do simple frame by frame animations- can't tell you how HELPFUL this was for compositing my characters with their backgrounds. Thank you SO much.
Very cool. I’d love to see some of your work. Resolve is an invaluable free tool for animation compositing. Resolve also has some ability to do simple frame-by-frame animations. Here are some I drew right in Resolve

Here is another one with the Resolve file you can download so you can see how I did it.

The drawing tools are very simple in comparison to Clip Studio Paint or Affinity or Photoshop, but if you are looking to add some simple animations to video it works pretty well for frame by frame.
Thank You
Right to the point! You're the best!
I appreciate that!
Yes, thank you for getting right to the point !! Very easy !!
Thank you a lot
You’re welcome
Thank you
Absolutely
does this only work on the paid version. it keeps importing all the individual images of the sequence for me. im a total n00b tho
EDIT: Nevermind. I see I have to set Frame Display Mode to Sequence. Auto was showing as Individual
Hi there Can I ask you a question?
I would like to import some jpg stills into davinci.
The only thing is that the program doesn't recognize that type of files.
Can you advise me what to doe?
Thanks
Use PNG for image sequences. You want to use the alpha.
Does this work with Sfm/source filmmaker?
It would be useful for you to say how to get to the screen you're looking at when importing media. Mine looks very different to that. When I import media I have always used drag-n-drop so I've never seen this before.
You can just select all individual pngs and drag into media pool. It'll auto compile into a single media file
@@KnightCrown This doesn't work for me. Now what do I do? EDIT - fixed it - you have to click "media" button at the bottom of the DaVinci interface, then right-click in the window with the folders and add a media file, then it recognizes the sequence, then you can right-click "add it to media bin"
@@3DCGdesign I thought this would work, it doesn't :( My PNGs don't auto-compile. I wish there was a command to actively compile it instead of passively.
@@Standard.Candle are they named sequentially? If there is a break in the chain of the naming sequence, perhaps this will cause problems?

I do stop motion and are exporting from DragonFrame in sequence. Normally shot for 12fps. So importing into DaVinci, I would want to set the fps to 12 I'm assuming?
Yes, create a new timeline (CTRL+L). Go to custom settings. Set the frame rate as 12fps. If you want those settings every time, set that as your default in preferences.
@@DigitalVectorStudios great thanks!
Steezed, davinci never disappoints. I love how the one part of the vid i really needed to know was pretty much "Oh mY hOw wILL i GeT tHese pics turned into video!" and its just like "Ah, resolve literally does that for you. how? idk but we never have to worry about it."
Yeah, resolve does what it should do. Amazing it’s free.
@@DigitalVectorStudios Mine does not do this when i drag and drop the file into the medial pool im doing the exact same thing you are doing
Are the files sequentially numbered?
I didn't realize how easy this could be. I was searching for this solution, and you stepped up with the answer. Thank you.
Glad to help
that's what I did for a simple animation exported from Fusion, but all I get after importing is a glitchy rectangle. any idea why?
You will need image files with the alpha channel. What format did you output from Fusion?
What if I don't want the grouped into a clip? Say I just want to add them as slides? What's the best way to do that without Da Vinci turning it into a clip?
If you need individual images, the easiest way is from the color page. Move the timeline to where you want the image. Then in the image viewer at the top middle, right-click in the image and grab image. Now at the top left, you will see the image you grabbed. Right-click on it and select export image. Make sure to choose a png to get the alpha info.
not sure if you've solved the issue but I found the best way was to individually drag and drop each picture from the folder your pictures are in, into the media pool. Not the best if you have a ton of pictures of course.
@@lexa3210 I am asking myself the same question.
Idk why this things came automatizated, I hate it. Just give the fucking option at the moment of importation.
What file format did you use? I have been trying this with a sequence of PNG files with an alpha channel and haven't been having any luck with it.
PNG. All the files need to be in the same folder and have sequential file names. What program are you outputting the PNG sequence from?
@@DigitalVectorStudiosthe images are rendered out from 3DS MAX. RGB 48 bit with alpha channel
Resolve uses a max of 32 bit floating. That is likely the issue.
@@DigitalVectorStudios Thank you, I converted them to 24 bit any they worked as expected.
@@octal7 Excellent work!
Mate, I feel so dumb. I spent hours this morning trying to compile an image sequence. I tried the most contrived solutions imaginable and eventually came out with a really hacked, janky solution that didn't even properly work. Forgot I had Davinci Resolve installed the entire time... Thanks for this video!
Hey thanks for the message. I’ve certainly been there. It’s nice to know some things are easy and free!
@@DigitalVectorStudios tell me about it, feels like a miracle sometimes haha. All the best for your future projects!
You are NOT alone - I spent hours trying to make CHRONOLAPSE and FFMPEG et al crap work on outputting a simple video file from a scientific timelapse bunch of sequentially numbered frames taken from a captured desktop, CHRONOCRAP tries to internally use MENCODER as its only output and sends it unparsable stuff, I finally found this out doing a freeze frame of the .0001 second that the "dos box" message flashes up, before windoze GUI takes over and sends something totally unhelpful, unrelated, catch all crap, and stoopid in the dialog box, The CHRONOCRAPPER sends the wrong frame rate data format to its MENCODER CMD line (I tried everything) and then Mencoder fails. I woke up and realised, stop this lunacy, I had Resolve on my main PC for normal video editing. , (it's 3AM in thailand) it works now, your video gave me the hints I needed, I can't thank you enough from saving me from Geek /CMD LINE Hell...!!!! @@ebaystars haha, I did the exact same thing with trying to force stuff through FFMPEG and spending a day coming out with rubbish, until I finally went to bed and woke up with the right answer. Glad to know I wasn't alone, also glad to hear you got it working your end too!
@@Tubechard yep just rolled the test clip tomorrow when my headache has cleared I'll do the real clip, CHRONOCRAPPER did catch the desktop ok, cant complain about that - Take Care Visit Thailand theres so little CV19 here....! I'm so happy... !!
how does resolve know to group all the images? Is there any way you have to organize the folder for it to recognize the images as a sequence??
The filename. So like Seq1, Seq2, Seq3, Seq4 etc.. It may be helpful for you to organize your sequence images in folders, but not necessary. If you are missing a file or you ran the render more than once, you may have overlap or gaps which will create issues.
@@DigitalVectorStudios ok, thank you!
I noticed that the standard setting is 24 fps which is pretty crappy. I set it to 30 fps before importing my 30 fps images and it seems to fix my problem.
Yes, you will want to use the same frame rate as exported. I used 24fps which is pretty standard for animation. I agree, if you are doing motion graphics or VFX, 30fps is preferred and will only result in 6 more images per second.
24 FPS is film. every movie you watch is 24FPS
Yes, correct. Netflix standard is 23.98 though. Some TV is 30fps, and a lot of online content. For animation, 24 fps is more than enough.
@@DigitalVectorStudios well as far as broadcast FPS its simply converted for tech reasons. but movies themselves are 99 percent shot at 24 FPS. even TV's that up convert with that nasty "motion smoothing" is still using 24FPS from movies, just adding fake keyframes.
👍
*edit nevermind it was due to the way my files were named! thxn!*
I THINK THEY UPDATED IT WHERE BY DEFAULT IT PUTS ALL THE IMAGES IN NOT BEING STACKED TOGETHER!!! Do you have any idea how to change this back to the way it is already stakced when you import them?? Please and thankyou!
Yeah ok, I tested and it works the same as always. Glad you figured it out
Nope not working. It won't take a jpeg image sequence. do I have to convert them to a tga or a png?
i can't seem to understand how to make the images show up bunched together as a sequence, sometimes they do, othertimes they don't. before i would rename them so that they have just the names of 000.png ---- 1000.png and that would do it, but now that isn't working and they show up as individual images.... any tips !?!?!
Yeah they need to be named sequentially. Select all the files from windows explorer or Finder and drag them to the Media Pool.
Davinci 17 does not bunch the images together. But i need this feature
The files have to be named consecutively. For example animation001, animation002, animation003, etc. Then it will automatically combine them into a video clip.
so all my files are numbered so I import them and it does it by each frame not one whole sequence what do I do
It is easiest to select all the files and drag and drop them as a timeline on the edit page. Resolve changed the way sequence are imported into the Media page in version 17. Dragging directly to the Edit Page timeline still works and is easier. Just make sure your timeline matches how you rendered the image sequence. Timeline settings are set under File > Project Settings. Resolve can deal with mismatched frame rates, but why deal with it.
So how does Davinci identify that it is an image sequence? How does it know the frame rate? How is this set? Is there a naming convention that needs to be used? How did you get the image set in the first place? You skipped over the entire part of how to make Davinci recognize that a pile of images is an image sequence as well as all ways to infer it.
Resolve will use the timeline frames per second setting. It will recognize any set of images with a file name that includes a number at the end that numerically increases.
I just posted an updated version of importing an image sequence on my channel.
@@DigitalVectorStudios Thank you for clearing that up.
con la ultima versión esto no funciona, sabes como se soluciona?
En el panel de medios hay un símbolo "..." que le permite elegir cómo importar los archivos secuenciales.
@@DigitalVectorStudios You save me!! Thx!!
When I import a PGN animation to DaVinci, it only shows as only one frame. Do you know how this can be fixed?
Are the PNG images sequentially named? Image001, Image002, etc? Also did you select all the images when you dragged and dropped them?
@@DigitalVectorStudios you were right! Thanks! I'm used to working on the iPad with HEVC, which I won't work on win10/DaVinci, not even with extentions installed.
What if... The clips are all separate and I do not see a sequence? Is there a setting I got wrong?
Are the clips sequentially numbered? Image001.png, Image002.png. etc
@@DigitalVectorStudios mhmm they were. I figured it out. There is a way to force it to be sequential. I was set to "auto". There is a "..." symbol in the media panel that let's you choose
You can also copy all the files and drag and drop into your timeline in the Edit Page
Davinci is not recognizing my folder as a sequence but instead as individual images, how do I fix this???
Hey I figured it out! Simply select all clips at once in their folder, rename something like : "frame1" and the rest will be numbered sequentially.
Then drag into Davinci!
Great to hear you got it worked out.

Ok, must be working on a time lapse. Resolve can work with some Camera Raw files, but has issues with others. Are you able to get the media to show up in the timeline?
Digital Vector Studios Yes, i can see the files in my timeline, but it's not a video, it's a sequence of images
Davinci doesn't sequence my photos together. I wish this video could have showed me how to do that
