Why do so many reviewers ignore the Gun Strength versus enemy Toughness mechanic? If you have a toughness 5 enemy, you should be using a weapon with 5 or more strength. You can see in the Enemy overlay their toughness and an icon whether your equipped weapon is suitable. You also hear an armour sound if your weapon is too weak. Its a really good mechanic.

It's pretty easy to forget when you're in an arena getting absolutely tanked from all sides. I tried to play tactically with it before giving up and just focus on shooting.
So the games developer sponsored this video. I think ill go look at independent reviews.

I'm glad you can turn off headbobbing. It doesn't make me sick, but I don't experience that effect in real life. My brain just filters it out. WHich makes it very uncomfortable for me in games when I cant tun it off. It's kinda eldrich and unreal to me.

Motion blur is another one I always turn off. Our eyes aren't cameras.
Calling it a "review" when it's sponsored gives it a really bad vibe; anyone that has been around long enough will be reminded of all the times companies paid people or gave them favors, for them to lie for them; people that don't know you well enough will be left wondering if you're really being honest or if you're just another corrupt "influencer" trying to get away with lying while begrudgingly adding the consumer protection #sponsored small print. If this was approved by their marketing people, they really need to rethink how they do business; and if it wasn't, you gotta be real careful with how you do your next ad to not make it backfire.
It’s a brilliant game, but it could do with a map, I find I’m wandering about a lot looking for the next area / exit.
I never had that problem but im very good with memorizing visual topography, is it really that bad ? Or hard ?

@@McRcFly Doom had a pretty decent map though, and it couldn’t have rooms above rooms so it was simple to follow.

This is completely disrespectful to the lore! Nobody had to thump the hololith in the opening cutscene to make it focus!
I might have missed something but you didnt rev the chainsword during your attacks the whole video, this one one of my fave things about this game. Sure it left you open but for finishing off the last target in a group/room it was an excellent way to save some ammo. Did you not like it?

Only downside to Boltgun's big levels and variety of routes is there are a couple of areas where you've killed everything but are just left wondering where the hell you have to go. I had to watch a playthrough of a bit of chapter one because I couldn't find the exit and spent ages running around looking for it. A map would have been useful, even Doom had a map in the 90's!
Other than that I can't recommend it enough, I'm really enjoying it and I wasn't even much of a Doom fan back in the day. Oh, and it was Genestealers you were fighting in Space Hulk, not Chaos.
It might be the drink talking (and the fact that I just beat HROT), but that Berlin Wall line really hit me in the feels.

I was confused by your intro. You talked about Space Hulk and wanting to actually play as those terminators. There was a second Space Hulk game released in 2013, with Space Hulk Ascension the next year and Space Hulk Deathwing in 2016. And from what I've seen in your gameplay video, you are not playing as a Terminator.
Just downloaded it last week and I instantly fell in love it. Waves of nostalgia from my youth were rekindled because of Warhammer 40k: Boltgun.

This takes me back to the past, when things really didn't suck ass. This game feels like a polished Gzdoom mod, it's wonderful. The lack of 40k themed fps games in the late 90's and early 00's was always puzzling. It has always been the perfect setting for one.

God I loved this channel, even defended it when Peter started initially grifting. But after the ridiculous "vegan only, meat eaters go f yourself" arcade debarkle, and more full sponsored videos like this, I'm done. I don't get the good reviews. The artwork is great but everything else is mediocre at best. The level design is just boring. Everything looks totally samey and if the levels were more complex orientation would be a mess. The secrets are not worth looking for and most of the time they are just in plain sight. Enemies are hard to make out against the background. Bigger enemies are too spongy. The arenas are too big for their own good. You often just run around desperately seeking for leftover enemies. Even health extras and ammunition distribution is a joke. The whole level is plastered with it making ammo management totally obsolete and on higher difficulties the small health extras are totally useless.
Can't tell you how disappointed i am that this is literally just a 30 min advertisement. I look forward to your videos and to see something like this is incredibly unfortunate
He is really sneaky with disclosing advertisements. it should be disclosed right at the beginning of the video. Not some sneaky tags and disclosure in the description.

The soundtrack of Boltgun reminded me of the legendary game Soul Reaver. No guitars, but 'Eavy Metal as hell!

Looks like a fun 40k FPS in doom style ! But a space hulk for DOS is not a good comparison. the tactical cameras with gene stealers jumping at you around the corners in the original, picking off your team one by one, with claustrophobic atmosphere is unique. Thanks for a great sponsored video, looks very fun!

Got this game a couple days ago, Started on Exterminatus… Been smooth sailing. Games not too hard but certainly challenging in some areas. First time I’ve played an old game like this. I’m 19 and haven’t tried anything like it. Very fun in my opinion. I’d give it a 9/10. I’d rate it higher if they had a circular deadzone for controllers instead of the old square stile. As a circular deadzone makes aiming more fluid and natural.
Looks cool..... shame there isn't a Linux version... it'll be real nice if/when developers finally ditch the tired ass windoze platform

I kinda disliked that it's more like Doom 2016, with the grappling and jumping mechanics. Due to my skills I rather play as a somewhat static gun platform and it's a little too hectic for me. Still nice though.
"Boomer shooter" is such an inaccurate term. These games were built by "Gen Xers" and targeted to "Gen X", "Gen Z" and "Millennials" (whatever those terms actually mean). At first I thought that it referred to the parents of the players of such games, and because the violence and other content caused so much hand-wringing and consternation (and constipation) for "Baby Boomers" and older cohorts, etc. I guess it's a term that's no more inaccurate and ambiguous than the generational classification(s) it refers to.

I agree that this game was all kinds of fun. Medium was perfect for me, challenging at times but never frustrating. You can’t really complain for 17 quid. Took me back to playing Doom on the office pc back in the 90s.
Please tell me this will run in 4:3 aspect ratio? They should have an option to toggle from 16:9/16:10/4:3 in the retro option section, hint-hint devs ;).

Never played or had any interest in Warhammer stuff, however this looks like it could be a good fun game…may have to check it out.
Honestly my only problem in this game is the U.I in changing weapons. I wish it had a weapon wheel. That and the level design is not the best. I wiah it had a map because I get lost quite alot. Other than that the game is great! The weapon sounds are literally CRACK!!!
Looks brilliant, loads of attention to detail for 40k. I do feel sorry for the Nurgle Daemons though...ahhh.

Loved this game but the difficulty ramoed up quick. Absolutely worth enduring to beat a chaos marine to death and tell him his dick cant match up to the magnificence of the emperors.

The space hulk graphics were better. The fake retro pixels are kinda off
not sure about the retro sprite enemies, reminds me of original doom or duke nukem 3D. The art style is nice but they need more animation frames.
I wasn't expecting to see you doing a game review, especially of a modern game, even if it does have a 90's nostalgia look, but I'm glad you did. Hopefully I'll get to play it one day, just have to wait until they sell it outside of Steam, and possibly open source it.

Boltgun is canonically a sequel to Space Marine. It literally takes place on the same planet SM took place on. Grimskull's war is mentioned in the intro, and one of the taunts mentions Captain Titus.
