This teaches nothing compared to what is standard. An attempt at different thinking but exactly the same with more steps

Hey! It isn't meant to be "better" than what is standard. It is a way to make an abstract concept more concrete. In Montessori, there are more concrete lessons that lead to this more abstract- yet still concrete method. Standard methods often are taught abstractly, or go from extremely concrete to completely abstract. This is a step that leads to abstraction
