    My Grandfather was a carpenter / contractor for 50 years. He drilled into my head that for any part of the basement that can leak in anyway should be tile. If your really good and can tile to a drain even better. When that horrid leak happens it just drains itself.

    I'm pregnant and have twin toddlers so I'm looking to make a bedroom in the basement and slowly finish it myself before the baby comes. I will be using an insulated subfloor with the grooves under it for water... What would be a good floor for someone on a tight budget?

    Ive had pipes break in the basement and it ruined the flooring. I want something that if it gets wet it won't be ruined.

    I have a raised ranch and the carpet in the family room / basement is spotted throughout. I figure its moisture or water coming from below. What flooring would work best?

    Hey this is a great video I'm currently trying to install flooring in my basement room but my basement has flooded twice so carpet is not an option and I still need to level the floor, what do you think is best option?

    • @reallycheapfloors
      @reallycheapfloors  3 роки тому +4

      Luxury vinyl plank will probably be worth considering. If the basement has flooded twice, it might flood again! (Lets hope not though) Luxury vinyl plank can survive a flood. If the floor isn't too unlevel, you can get away with a SPC LVP that can prevent indentation.

    Great video! If (when) I get a leak in my concrete basement will waterproof LPV dry out eventually, or will I have to tear it up to get rid of the mold? Is glued down sheet vinyl a better choice for wet basements? I would like to cover the 2010 concrete slab with something for now to make it more liveable in the winter (we get cold feet in Michigan).
    Can I frame over LPV later? I'm stuck at home for a while with the pandemic, and would like to DIY my wide open unfinished 1200sf basement. If I only need to finish around 4 walls and a staircase it will be exponentially simpler than finishing the flooring around all the framing of 4 rooms, closets, and a bathroom!

    • @reallycheapfloors
      @reallycheapfloors  4 роки тому +3

      Thanks for your comments, Paul! It would take alot of leaking to get under your LVP, but yes, it should dry up. What is causing your wet basement? Leaks or seepage? I think a cork-backed 20 mil LVP from COREtec would be a great product for you. And we just happen to have some!

    Hi, I have asbestos tile in my basement over concrete. I had to remove a quite a few loose tiles and will fill those areas with self-leveling cement. Otherwise, the floor is not completely smooth, there are a few bumps and valleys up to maybe 1/4 inch over a three-foot span worst case. What can I get away with if I use LVP in the basement in terms of its tolerance to these minor surface flaws? I don't want to remove any more tile than necessary. Also do you have a recommendation for self-leveling concrete? For example Home Depot has Henry 555 and also Henry 544 and I don't know the difference, except the 555 is $40/bag and 544 is $30. Thank you!

      @erichsh58 did you ever find an answer to this situation? I am having a similar predicament. We are redoing our basement bathroom and discovered tiles that look like they might have asbestos underneath two layers of carpet (really old 70’s house). There are now lots of dips in the ground, not too crazy deep. We don’t want to disturb it anymore than we have to. So now I am wondering if we can use self leveler over this without removing anymore.. or just place whatever LVP flooring we end up picking over it?

      We think its the best option for most homes with basements. If you call in an explain your installation situation, engineered hardwood could be a great option as well!

      Yes, you can, but the barrier is unnecessary, as the existing vinyl will act as a moisture barrier.

    Just go carpet. Unless your floor is completely level your lvp will constantly unclick or you spend a fortune on self leveling cement

Also I put big fan with airflow outward and later i was going to put kerosine stove on low heat for 10 hours. Is this good plan
