  • This video is a drive with my brother in his 1966 Dodge Dart GT one evening, near his home in Brønnøysund, Norway.
This Dart has an HP 273cid wedge head V8 with solid lifters and dual exhaust. The car also has front disc brakes and front sway bar, with stiffer front torsion bars. All this is engineered by Chrysler and combines for a very well handling car.. It's the same chassis setup as the Plymouth Barracuda Formula S package..

My first car, but all I had was a slanted 6 ,lol. One tough car, it took me everywhere from trips down the east coast of America, to parties across fields into woods with the occasional donut.

LOL! That's awesome! My brother and I grew up with slant-sixes cuz that's all our Dad would buy in his Darts...but he kinda made up for it by buying convertibles. We had two of them, and we had the same experience as you.. They are bullet proof, we took ours from NH to Salt Lake City and back one summer, 1972 I think. We had to re-solder the radiator tank half way there, but otherwise trouble free.. We couldn't do donuts, but I figured out I could lay a patch if I put it in reverse and stomped on the gas! We wore that car right out.. but we just went to a local junkyard, sourced a '67 225 engine and rear axle, stuck them in the '66 and it kept right on going for a couple more hundred thousand mile... We sold it in 1986 with over 400,000 miles! Fun stuff.

i have a 66 two-door post in the light metallic blue- not a GT. slant-six auto its really clean was my grandmothers new car. spent nearly all its life in her garage in youngstown ohio. my brother is prepping it for shipping to here in san diego county and i will do a resto-mod swap with something modern, mopar, and not too wild or extravagant. 318, 340, hunt something down. have the x-member, need some ideas. needs no body or interior work- right in my lane. may keep me out of trouble, but i doubt it...

Yep, as teenagers we drove our Dad's '66 Dart convertible - it had 250,000 miles on it before it was time to stick a new Slant Six in it from a junk yard... then we drove it another 150,000 miles. Sold it with 400,000 miles on it. Great car.

Thanks, I think it will... and yes, I was also amazed at the intense sound of this 273, and I think it's the high compression that makes a big difference. Cheers!

Can't decide what I liked best, the stunning scenery or the lovely Dodge Dart GT, the V8 soundtrack was good too.

I agree totally, I rarely get to drive small blocks, and this one sounded great with the hi compression 273 engine.

Hei Lennart! Thank you for your comment! Glad you are inspired to get your '66 back on the road again! Our father had several '66 Dart 270 convertibles when we were young boys. So much fun!! Lykke til and God sommer!

Curious on the exhaust set up

If I recall correctly it's the stock dual exhaust, the 273HP engine gives it a fabulous sound - 4 barrel with hi compression and solid lifters. Cheers!
