We also talk about our reading plans with BOTH the Women’s Prizes this year. Oh and I maybe address the fact it’s my worst year of guessing EVER… and why that thrills me. My ears are burning! YES, join me in the frankness! This is the Olympics of books! The standard must be HIGH, you don’t say to someone at the olympics ‘oh well, you weren’t very fast but I like the WAY you run and you gave it a good try’ - IT’S THE WOMEN’S PRIZE, be original, be interesting, or don’t play the game ;) love you both as always, let’s get reading 🙌
You are sooooooooo right about all the above. I need to remind myself of this. I’ll have you in my ears at the end of each book. Btw. I’ve been giggling about ‘looks like a shit postcard’ all day.
I got FIVE correct! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I have read three. ❤❤❤
Ha. Well done you!
Oooooh most excited about "Enter Ghost" and "And Then She Fell" I think. Thanks for the unboxing!:)
Highly recommend 8 Lives of a Century-Old Trickster! One of my favorite recent reads.
Louise has the collywobbles!
She did!
Always lovely to see you together 😊The list was so unexpected, which I love!
I was chuffed how unexpected it was. Love that.
What a fabulous duo ! Excellent viewing who needs live Ruby games and Gladiators when we have such excellent viewing ❤
Sorry for the typo please read rugby !
Hahaha. I got what you meant by the ruby games, though they sound fun. And I won’t lie. I enjoyed a few episodes of Gladiators recently.
I only guessed Enter Ghost! You two are hilarious and the best at ‘selling’ the Women’s Prizes - there are a lot more that I want to read after watching your Christmas morning excitement. Thrilled to see an Aussie on the list too! Now…where to start…back to bed because it’s 4.40am🎉🎉🎉
Oh my god the way I’ve been refreshing UA-cam for this 😂
Hahaha. Hope you enjoyed it!
Been so looking forward to this with Savidge senior and junior
Hahaha. Not sure how mum will feel about being called senior 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@SavidgeReads meant respectfully only!
Absolutely loved the Megan Nolan! Thrilled to pick up a few of these ones 👀😊
Ooh that’s good to hear! Looking forward to all 16.
Ahaha Louise giving out gently when Simon was saying the boxes were heavy. Then later, "nearly guessing is not guessing". Golden. As usual, fab to watch you two discover the list together. I've haven't heard of so many of these.
Glad you enjoyed the video!
Can here immediately after the announcement!
Interesting that there are no books over 500 pages, which is different from previous years! I love that they are set or written by authors all over the world. I have only heard of one of these - The Blue Beautiful World by Karen Lord. I thought that one was the 3rd in a series, but maybe not? Looking forward to your thoughts on these once you've read them!
Awww thank you! Hope you enjoyed the reactions.
Love every video of you two together!
Awww thank you.
Can't wait for Enter Ghost! That's the one I find most intriguing for sure and have had my eye on it since they announced its publication. Love to see the Simon/Louise duo back in action!
Really looking forward to that one. Think it could be the winner. There. I’ve said it. Sadly I don’t think there will be any Simon/Louise women’s prize videos now until the winner predictions videos for both!
I've never heard of any of them. Which honestly makes me more excited because now I get to discover a whole new set of books!
That’s pretty much how I felt too. I’d heard of a few but most were new to me and I love that.
I love how u guys discuss books I wish I had someone like this I love even checking out the font too
Font is sooooo important. I am writing a list of things I’m going to mark the books on. Font will be one.
"I haven't guessed a blinking one so far!" -Simon (the audacity). I recommend Acts of Desperation (about a toxic relationship, vignettes if I remember correctly).
Your excitement is so contagious! Loved seeing your reactions - thank you x
I will get to them after I have finished reading another prize list that opened up to me because of the March Savidge Reading Prompts - you Savidges are sending me down so many prize list rabbit holes!!!
I’m so excited to see the list and hear you both talking about it ❤ I’m also so glad Yellowface and Tom Lake were not on there 😜 two of the books I read that I just couldn’t get on with!
I was pleased no Yellowface as I really didn’t like the second half of that book, thought the first was brilliant. Tom Lake I’m mildly intrigued for. Mildly.
I’m very excited about And Then She Fell. I’m also hoping to read The Wren, The Wren and Soldier Sailor. 😊💙
Canada Reads has made me want to head to some Canadian fiction so And Then She Fell could fall in my lap very soon!
I can’t wait for the rest of your women’s prize videos, the long list announcement always reinvigorates my reading. I was quite surprised by this list! Lots I’ve never heard of, should be an interesting selection
Haven’t got one on my TBR shelves!! Lots of lovely book shopping to do ❤ and then visit with lots of different countries and their fascinating stories. Ah bliss!
What a lovely Video! I am so excited for all the listed books 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
What an exciting stack of books - so many I've never heard of. I've been avoiding other channels as your reveal is so entertaining. Oh, and I agree with the font issue ... he older I get the more important it is.
Wow... What a ride, haha. Was ready to watch as soon as this dropped (of course)! So many I haven't heard of. And also/therefore, I predicted absolutely none. Haha. But a fair few sound very promising!! I can see why you both are expecting a good year from these lot. I have Ordinary Human Failings and The Wren, The Wren on my tbr already, but will obviously keep up with your reading of them all bc colour me intrigued! Will say I agree that there are a few that I wouldn't head to "on my own" without this incentive, but hey, initial reactions don't necessarily stick.
Happy reading, both of you!! And fully support your idea of doing the two shortlists together - how well we are treated 🥰🥰
Yasss ! My favorite book award & 2 of my favorite book tubers ! Enter Ghosts and The Wren The Wren have been on my TBR, but I’ve added damn near all the others now too . 📖 🪱 💚
I am sooooooo excited for the list. Sooo many intriguing books ahead.
Oh the font 🎉 😂. Which one should I start with I wonder. Thank you so much Louise and Simon. Ps font matters 🎉
Font really does matter!
Hooray for an Australian novel! Font definitely matters 😂Looks like a fabulous list, I have only read Ordinary Human Failings.
“That could be the bio for my social media.” 😂😂
Hahahaha. I made myself laugh with that one.
Hi Simon & Louise xx ❤❤ loved your video post xxx adore you both xx ❤❤❤❤ thank you so much for sharing all the books xx it’s hard to choose where to start lol xxxxxx
Loved this ❤ haven’t read any but I have heard of several. Love you two. 💕
Awww thank you. Glad you enjoyed it!
I loved Acts of desperation so I will definitely read ordinary human failings it’s been on my list for a while. 📚😻
I’m looking forward to trying out her work.
Loved loved your vlog, you two could make the phone book sound amazing. Gonna order from the library. Excited xx❤
Awwww that’s such a lovely thing to say, though you’ll be relieved to know there’s no phone book videos planned 😉
I am very excited for this years longlist, even though I only got three predictions correct! I think I'm most excited for Enter Ghost and Nightbloom!
Hahaha. That’s three more than me and I’m still super duper excited.
Thanks, Simon and Louise!🌷I’ve only read Enter Ghost and I’m happy to see it on the list. Looking forward to hearing your reviews!📚🥰
Really looking forward to that one. Think it could be the winner. There. I’ve said it. Reviews incoming.
@@SavidgeReadsHi Simon😊I think you may be right! There. I’ve said it too😅
I haven’t read a single one! I was busy placing library holds on titles as you read them out. Exciting!
I got one the wren the wren , i loved this Simon you were hilarious about the guessing and the chat ❤it !
You too are the best I have read Enter Ghost and The Wren the wren both very good I like a list of unknown books for a change I am tired of the ones who get nominated over and over So much to discover in this list
Sooooooo much to discover.
I love the way that you get over excited it's really cheering.
How can we not? It’s like bookish Christmas.
Book Christmas! Love it.
Haha it’s how it feels.
I just love when you two team up. So fun-bloopers were hilarious. 😂
I haven’t seen most of these on prediction videos. I am currently in the middle of Hangman. I think it may be a book I’ll have to start over with once I know how it ends to better understand how the story connects. I’m very excited by several of the other titles, especially Enter Ghost (I’m a Shakespeare nut, so reading a Hamlet influenced Palestinian novel sounds so intriguing).
It’s here!! Love this list 🤩
Me too. So full of surprises. So happy can talk about it now!
What beautiful synergy you two have! You together are simply life-affirming, so merry, chirpy, loving...please carry on doing this for the next 40 years!
I can't possibly buy some more books this month.....😂 "Enter Ghost" I pre-ordered a month ago, so can't wait to read it....
As for the rest.......🎉
Hahaha. 40 years. Blimey. We’d be 98 and 82 respectively. Oh thats hurt my brain. Lol. The prize would be almost on its 70th year though.
Redemption in Indigo was one of The Readers Summer Book Club pick back in 2012. That's how long I've been following you.
Oh my gosh I loved the little outtake section at the end!
Hahaha a little treat for the longhaulers lol.
Loved this! I have only read Soldier Sailor, and heard of Western Lane - apart from that I had no clue 😂
Isn’t it exciting that there’s so many new to us books. Love it.
Louise, looking totally fab on the left once again!
Excited to hear your thoughts on these Simon :-)
The Women’s Prize reading journals will be imminent! Well in the next week or so.
Interesting list, in a good way. I can’t say how many I’m going to read until I know more about them, but there are definitely some I’m interested in. I kind of love there aren’t any super big names on this list. I’m still really interested in Dominoes that you or perhaps Ben predicted and The Painter’s Daughters, which I’m picking up tomorrow.
I am giving up predicting. 😂. I have Ordinary Human Failings on order from the library. I think I might read the shortlist rather than the longlist as I haven’t read any of themxx
Such a fantastic list. Can’t wait to get started on them although I’m still excited for the non fiction list too. Bookish dilemmas are the best dilemmas 😅
I was excited there was some Aussie fic listed too.
Great to see both of your reactions 📚❤️
Thanks Charlie, will be looking forward to speaking to you about both lists soon 😉
I love your banter. Epic!!
Awww thank you.
Love looking through the long list box with you both
It’s always a treat. This one was brimming with the unexpected.
Your both so lovely. I have already put some of the longlist on hold at my library. Most of these I've never heard of before, so it's exciting. I'm looking forward to reading East river, west river; Brotherless night; The wren, the wren; Nightbloom and many others, if I can get to them, I'm not a fast reader and I'm also trying to read some of the non-fiction list, too. My library book pile is growing!!!
Awww thank you for saying we are lovely. Very kind. I’ve been completely stuck on where to start… so I haven’t yet but I need to get a wriggle on as I’ve all 16 to get to.
I work in libraries and have never seen most of these. I have Claire Kilroy's book to read. I'm not sure how I'll get on with motherhood as a theme as I'm not one and hesitant to read anything on that theme.
Nightbloom cover perfectly matches your necklace, Louise. What an exciting selection to get stuck in to!
Really looking forward to all the books!
Great video! I love your relationship. I'm most excited about Enter Ghost.
Really looking forward to that one. Think it could be the winner. There. I’ve said it.
I've watched this video twice, once on the fly just after the announcement & again after work when I had more time to digest it. Sorry, Simon, but both times I burst out laughing at your disappointment at not predicting any of the titles. But that's what makes this list so exciting! I can't wait to dive in.
Don’t apologies. I wasn’t disappointed, shocked a bit but mostly just excited and flabbergasted (in a good way) about all the new to me books that box was delivering.
I haven’t read any and only owned one, but have managed to order, reserve and download them all now. Most excited for 8 Lives and Soldier Sailor, but starting with Enter Ghost as I already had it out from the library and going to listen to River East, River West.
Is it terrible to say that I think this video may be the highlight of this year’s WP for Fiction for me? I’ve read six of these and only really liked one. Most of the rest are out here but did poorly in reviews and sales and did not get picked up by any library in my 30+ group. I am loving the nonfiction longlist and may be like Louise and focus on that. Having said that, I do want to read Soldier Sailor and the Kate Grenville so maybe there will be some redemption. But you two made it all better!
Well it’s not terrible to my ears. But I’m sad you’re a bit meh about the list. It’ll be interesting to see how I get on with the long list as I go. So hopefully that’ll be more content highlights. Then there will be the winner and shortlists ranking videos. Though sadly no guessing the shortlists this year together I don’t think.
I had Enter Ghost on my Wishlist so that’s the one I’m most looking forward to reading. 😊 thanks for sharing!
Really looking forward to that one. Think it could be the winner. There. I’ve said it.
@@SavidgeReads ooh so you have! We will have to wait and see….although I’m feeling like it could be too. 😊 Happy reading Simon - I’m looking forward to your thoughts on all the books! 😊
YES new savidge
Hahaha. And you got not just new Savidge but double Savidge.
This list is so intreaguing. I read Western Lane last year, for the Booker, but other than that i haven't read any. I love how there are so many debuts and most of the big obvious guesses are missing. Its so exciting.
It is exciting isn’t it. Can’t wait for all the adventures ahead.
I’ve read Ordinary Human Failings, The Wren, The Wren and I highly recommended both. I’m currently listening to Solider, Sailor. Loads of books I’ve never heard of.
I have now read both of those recommendations… and have many many thoughts. Hehehe.
So you want to know my thoughts, so here they are: I'm glad to see that a couple of these books might contain humor, because primarily, these Prize books--every year-- are heavy hitters in some way. They almost always want to make you think, challenge your own beliefs/values, make you want to discuss issues of society, highlight problems of mankind or society, etc. My reading of fiction has slowed down considerably in the last 6 months because of this. It's gotten to be tiring for me. I have veered toward classics, historical fiction, biography, etc. Last year, the Longlist had "Bandit Queens"--yes, it contained heavy issues, but it was so funny. It ended up being one of my favorites. Thanks goodness "Demon Copperhead" had a ton of humor or I couldn't have gotten through it. I gave it a "5". Maybe this old lady is worn out from having to think too much--girls just want to have fun, ya know??!!
I did want your thoughts and thank you for them. Bandit Queens was one of my favourite books of last year’s long list, and last year full stop!
only have heard of two so mostly all new exciting
I am currently reading Night Bloom. I am so on it 😘
Oh yey, I just ordered The Maiden yesterday! :D Well done me
Hahahaha well done you indeed! Now go and get a lottery ticket 😉
@@SavidgeReadsHaha how dare you imply that luck had anything to do with it! I must just be that everything I touch turns to gold ✨ (And let's not mention the other 15 books I also ordered...) Loved the video as always!
Really appreciate to know when a book has a good clear large font 👍
Hahaha. The font is important. I love so many of us feel this way.
Enjoyed the unboxing. To be honest though, not sure how I feel about this list yet!
"I'm definitely an egg." "No I think you're a carrot." 😂 Thank you for the laugh! It was my first time guessing and I predicted one correctly, Enter Ghost. I "almost" guessed two or three others, but Louise has laid down the law: apparently that doesn't count! 🥴
Most excited about Ordinary Human Failings. But loving this list!!
It’s a corker isn’t it? I feel very excited by it.
My goodness, what a great selection this year! I haven’t heard of any them(which I like). I’m looking forward to Canada Reads as well!!
I’ve not caught up with day two of Canada Reads and will miss day three as I’m travelling to a conference and back today but looking forward to a big catch up tomorrow.
I’ve not caught up with day two of Canada Reads and will miss day three as I’m travelling to a conference and back today but looking forward to a big catch up tomorrow.
Looks like this years Women's Prize is going to be very good📚📚📚📚📚📖
Yay 🤗 Thanxx both for sharing this WP Longlist 📚🤓 I’ve only read Western Lane which I rather liked 👍 So far, got library requested those by Anne Enright & Kate Grenville.
I so enjoyed Wicked Little Letters (a gem of a film ☺️) TTFN 😘
Wicked Little Letters was sooooooo good. I laughed and was really moved by it too.
Exactly that 😆🥹
Plus, a brilliant cast 👏🏻
Never really into the Women’s Prize type books but always love you two together. Hadn’t heard of any of those besides “The Maiden”. Saw that cover on one of Kate’s Harris & Harris Instagram posts.
We can’t all be into the same things, that would be super boring but I’m super ar you’re into us when we make videos together 😉
Such an exciting list and i have only read one - Enter Ghost - which i loved!
Really looking forward to that one. Think it could be the winner. There. I’ve said it.
Initial thoughts was that I wasn't particularly excited but as I read and looked closer, I think, with a few exceptions, it's a very interesting and intriguing longlist. Particularly looking forward to Isabella Hammad, Megan Nolan, Peace Medie and very intrigued by River East, River West and In Defence of the Act
I’ve gone straight to the library and reserved Ordinary Human Failings, The Wren The Wren, Western Lane, The Maiden, and Restless Dolly Maunder. Think I might buy 8 Lives, Nightbloom and Brotherless Night. Oh and A Trace of Sun! All sound so good!!
What a great list. (But I really wanted the blurbs.) Oh well, that's what Google is for. Happy reading.
We said we weren’t going to do the blurbs but we did for most of them to be fair!
I also noticed theme overlap with the nonfiction longlist! Similarly, I think the books on each list flow well into one another with their themes.
I have read 4. I'm very pleased to see Kate Grenville on the list and Enter Ghost has been on my radar for a while so here's the excuse to read it. It is also nice to see such a wide range of countries included.
I’m excited to read Enter Ghost, I’ve a slight gut feeling that might be the winner. We shall see. I’m also a tiny bit cross with myself that I’ve not already read the Grenville, I love her writing but I save her books for rainy days rather than just reading them and enjoying them. Silly me.
Which is the joy of these prize lists, they give us a nudge to read those authors we'd always intended to but somehow haven't, as well as the introduction to new authors@@SavidgeReads
I’ve read one have a few already to read
I have one. The maiden. Which I bought in Edinburgh
Ha apt. I didn’t see it when I was in Edinburgh, though it may not have been out then. Though not sure I would have picked it up with that cover. Looking forward to it though.
Yeah! Soldier Sailor got nominated
I have only read Western Lane, but own or have from the library 5 more already.
What an interesting list, I had predicted a grand total of 1 😂
Hahaha. Thats one more than me! Now to read them all!
Again, none correct, but excited to read these! Soldier Sailor doesn't come out in the US until June. I guess I'll read that one if it wins!
Wow. None of these books were on my short list of books I wanted to see. I have The Maiden which I bought at The Golden Hare in Edinburgh in late October. I just ordered Soldier and Sailor by Claire Kilroy and Enter Ghost.. You were both so excited opening the two boxes that I missed a few of the authors as I was trying to write everything down. I would say that the publishers sometimes put the author names very low on the cover, and sometimes the print was small. But it would be great to remember to hold them up so we can see the titles and authors. Tax.
I completely missed The Maiden in any bookshops when I was in Edinburgh. It must have been hiding from me. Haha. Noted on the cover holding. I’ll make sure I do that for longer on the vlogs, the excitement took over I think.
Maybe it was your passion for your predicted books, but I'm actually more keen to read them than the actual long list. This is only my second year of making an effort to follow the Women's Prize, but I'm interested in what they are like
I would quite like to read this list followed by my list. Let’s see how I do for time hahaha. So many books so little spare minutes at the moment.
Western Lane is a nice little book about grief & squash.
Yes. That’s the vibe I got. Though everytime I say squash I think of the root vegetable.
I've only read one of these!
I’d read none, so you’d done better than me. Lol
Loved you both exploring the long list. And what a great pile of books to add to my TBR. Only read Western Lane and heard of The Anne Enright book. All others are completely new to me. Women’s prize hits the spot again on really current diverse fiction- but the proof will be in the reading😊
I was excited about Ordinary Human Feelings but I found it so sad 😢
Oooh I quite like a really good really sad book. I mean I loved A Little Life, need I say more’
❤
💜📚
I'm with Mum -- "nearly guessing" isn't a guess. Sorry, Simon! 🤣
No true. It’s not. Thankfully it’s just for fun and I’m actually thrilled, as I said, that I got none right, shows what an amazing plethora of possible submissions and amazing books there are.
❤❤❤
💜📚
@@SavidgeReads I’m pleased to see an Australian author on the list. I’ve read quite a few Grenville books
Jaffna is a city in Sri Lanka
I think they said Jaffa, a neighbourhood in Tel Aviv, Israel but I could be wrong.
Ooh thank you. Will correct that when I get to it and talk about it.
@@SavidgeReadsSimon, I think you (or Louise) said it correctly as Jaffa. I was responding to the viewer who said Jaffna rather than Jaffa.
