I use powdered graphite sold in small tubes with a nozzle for easy application on sliding doors. Oils and silicones have a tendency to collect and hold tight to hair, dirt, dust and dust bunnies, etc making cleaning more often and very dirty again. Graphite is a dry powder that allows smooth movement (locksmith's love this stuff) between surfaces but does not stain the surrounding area like oil and does not need to be reapplied but every few years. If over spray occurs, it is like a pencil mark, just wipe it away. It also works great on windows and door hinges and gets rid of squeaks allowing for smoother opening. Found this out years ago. Just a suggestion.
That sounds great! I am 72 yrs old & can’t spend any length of time stooping, bending, or kneeling for cleaning, etc.! Should I clean the tracks first and then apply the graphite? Where can I get the graphite? Thanks for this info!
@Cyd Kriletich Hi, if track really dirty, then clean as well as you can before applying. Just squeeze puff small amounts from tube along the track, then slide door a few times to distribute. I understand where you are coming from....I am seventy-three. : )
Forgot, you can buy at any store...WalMart, Home Depot, most grocery stores in hardware section. Cost is maybe 2 or 3 dollars and lasts years and years as you only use a very small amount.
@@karchata7123 I'm sorry this did not work for you. Suggestion: clean the area well first of dirt, grime etc.; then after it is thoroughly dry, apply a light dusting of powdered graphite. Because it is graphite, it is blackish-gray color by nature, not clear. If over spray occurs, and it does sometimes, just vacuum if possible or use a dampened soapy cloth and wipe away. Hope this works for you.
Girl, I did mine. We have been here 6 years and I have cleaned it before, but it was terrible this go around. Four dogs, don't shed but DO bring in lotsa dirt. Yours are clean compared to what I just cleaned up, lol
I was listening to an audiobook a prayer for Owen Meany and for some odd reason I end up in this channel… Andrea Jean can clean and tidy up just about anything
Change the door rollers out before they deteriorate. Need two peeps to lift the door out. Get the proper rollers BEFORE you lift the door out. When the new rollers are fitted tell the kids as they will slam the door shut too hard. Softly does it!

I tried this and it didn’t work and stained my doors permanently !! If there’s clear it may be better. Otherwise it just dries and becomes a solid

I'm not sure I'd use PAM olive oil. Any kind of wet product would seem to attract dust, dirt, fuzz, and hair. A dry lube would be better.
looked great but door installer told me dont use any lubricant??? it collects the dust and dirt??
You need pull up that metal threshold and clean underneath.
better to just pull the door off-- it comes out :)

Dry Lube, not PAM...of you will be doing again at the end of the summer.
Andrea, I searched. Where is the bissell steam shot video?

Thanks for sharing we have sliding patio doors in Australia and they can be a nightmare.👌👌👌
I literally was noticing that my door track needed cleaning this morning! Perfect timing! Thanks so much.
Terrific ideas
Knew there was a reason I don’t have sliding glass doors..such nonsense. I’m very practical about living and cleaning.
slipin n slidin haha you're funny. great idea thx
What do you do for the top track of the sliding screen door. There appears to be a metal type cord across the top (Pella), and it is creaking.
This lady is cute as she sings while working. :) That's how you get to work. I liked it too for cleaning.🙂

Great spring/summer cleaning idea. Do you have the video about the steam shot? I didn’t see the link below.
Make your own hoover attachment with a garden hose pipe😉
Great advice!
THANKS!
I use Armor All to clean my tracks, using a painting sponge to spread it. Works like a gem.
Thanks Andrea, love cleaning tips! Joan Bates
