You did a great job, but making the map in GZDoom format just for a single custom enemy seems like a bit of a waste, other than the death animation I think that demon could be easily implemented in Vanilla with DeHacked

It's funny because the final secret that he missed was in the room with the chainsaw that he passed up just moments earlier. Could've also had the plasma rifle! I'm really surprised he didn't think of jumping to the other crate, especially as he already found the step up the first time.
Decino's reaction to the custom pinky was reminiscent of my reaction to the vanilla doom monsters while I peered over my brothers shoulders in 1998. Horrors beyond my comprehension at 4 years old.
Same here. I was playing at my fathers work computer on black and white monitor without sound. Suddenly a pinky apprared from behind a corner. More than 25 yesrs later and I can still remember the feeling.
My grown ass got jumpscared by a lone hell knight when I finally finished Doom 1 and 2 some years ago 😅 A room suddenly turning dark and a demon screeching behind me was enough for me back then apparently 🙃 I've always found the sound effects of the hell nobles eerie...

Been friends with GreenSlayer for a good while, I play-tested many of his old maps. Pretty mind-blowing to see one of 'em being played by the one and only Decino. He's got a habit of being rough on himself when making a map, as he doesn't like most of the ones he makes, but Computer Nexus is a very good map.

@decino There are settings in GZDoom for an overlay map, they are hidden by default for some reason. Options > Full Option Menu > Turning Simple Options Off* > Automap > Overlay Automap. Has option with both Auto + Overlay although it feels like they are misaligned. *makes the advanced settings always visible
Really cool subtle detail! The silver hexagon floor changes to the rust colored one under the lights. Makes the lighting feel different without changing the actual brightness. Clever! Never seen that before.

The problem of this map is that after a while the music becomes so annoying. That's a problem I have with big maps, after a while the music becomes more of a annoying background noise, especially if I get lost for a lot of time into a level
Those Blood Pinkies are devious! Because you don't want to get chomped, you keep your distance, so they use their ranged attack more. But when monsters infight they close the distance into melee which the Knights can take that damage from getting chomped and destroy the Blood Pinky first.
Tech base done amazingly well... bit of the rage again maybe? David played two good ones as well recently. Midi's so wacky cursed it's funny 😂. Highlight here may well be that last secret: already thought you could crate jump so was a bit surprised you left it so quickly. It's interesting design to only have a trigger on one side. Might give this a go myself, but as you maxed it with almost all items, not much is new then.
That MIDI was interesting.... by the way, could you check out Andie Mano's Doom but Better on the Doomworld forums? it's caught a bit of traction lately, and I'd say it's worth a shot. A review on it would be awesome! Cheers to the peak content regardless!
Man, those doors were thicc! For how interesting and detailed this map was, it seemed like they just forgot to make the doors normal and made them as 90s as possible. 7:50 How quickly you forget. (26:15)
This wrong pitching is because GuitarPro uses 30 cents instead 100 cents when export midi. Well, that was bothered me ten years ago or so, when I put all my sketches to wads.
Resurgence by Joshy was really good Decino. Not that I needed to tell you or anything. It felt a little repetitive towards the end (feels like joshy ran out of ideas but solo making a megawad is very difficult)
I think this is little bit bad mapping habit from 90s putting weapons into secret areas (if its only weapon in level). It can ruin pretty much flow of the gameplay (like there where you searched for SSG pretty long and missed plasma).
I think the music could’ve been something less… intense. The action in this map doesn’t keep pace. Otherwise the layout seems interesting. Very TNT inspired. I did laugh when you got scared. Though I confess I would’ve been spooked if I had been playing.

Just an FYI on why the midi pitch is awful, I suspect the midi is exported from a Guitar Pro tab of the song "Take No Prisoners" by Megadeth. The Guitar Pro software uses different pitch values for bends, so a full tone bend when input in Guitar Pro does not produce a bend if you the export the midi into something like a DAW. It also does some weirdness with splitting bends across 2 midi channels I believe, and if you only use 1 midi channel for the track you also get some weird pitch bendy goodness! The more you know 0.o

I thought for sure it might be the Doom midi player misinterpreting the midi bends, but apparently not (if I recall, Guitar Pro bend values are scaled on +/- octave range, while most virtual midi players are scaled on +/- one tone). I still think the midi has come from a Guitar Pro file, but for the midi to be exported and then recorded as an audio file... that baffles me :D
Overlay automap is possible in GZDOOM. I have 2 keys for the automap. I do it this way: bind KEY1 "am_overlay 2; togglemap" bind KEY2 "am_overlay 0; togglemap"
I don't think there's something wrong with the midi. The main strumming part is in 16ths and then the solo is slower, I think in 4ths. So, it is what they call: mathematical metal (/music). But I only know the solo of R.E.M. - What's the frequency Kenneth, as an example of it.
You should be allowed to reject maps based on broken or jank midis. Just kidding, it was part of the charm here. The map itself looks good, but I think it could have been more up front in handing the player weapons.
Decino thanks for all informations and concepts about doom maps, weapons, enemies, and more. But I have a little request, can you do the same about Wolfenstein 3d?, since it mades by the same company and the same makers and thanks so much for your hardworking.

Pretty sure those lead guitar notes are just chromatic (i.e. random as shit on purpose). I personally love it.
