    My first GSP I trained to do this hooked to my bike. He loves it so much and gets so pumped to go running.

    Love that set up. I'm only on an acre but on a substantial hill. These dogs have an insatiable appetite to work.

    Usually for new learner. We can start through cycles also... So the speed remain constant @standingstonekennels

    only trainers I know who do this run their dogs in All Age stakes - we just run in Gun Dog stakes and Hunt Tests - run my dogs regularly but just free run and they got plenty enough range, speed and stamina for that - but looks like fun

    You mentioned that your dogs are pacing with the 4 wheeler and they aren't pulling like they had a sled behind them. I have one of these harnesses for my Irish Setter who loves to go running and i want to get him into Canicross. (Running with the dog basically pulling me along behind him like a sled but me trying to keep up with him) My question is, Is this harness NOT meant for pulling? Is it just for stabilizing the dog, or can I have my dog pull with a harness like this?

    • @amaphis
      @amaphis 8 місяців тому +1

      They can pull with these for canicross (same type of harness) Non-stop dogwear based out of the UK has very similar harnesses. I am getting a GSP this week and will be teaching him canicross once he is about 14-16 months old.

    We've been taking our 9 week old on short rides inside our side by side just getting him used to it but what do you suggest for getting a young dog socialized to a quad and the age you could start roading with him? Thanks

    I see your setup is chain from the bar to the dog and some people use bungee? Pros and cons of one over the other?

    I don't have access to a dirt road. I live in a suburban neighborhood. Do you think I could accomplish something similar with a bike?

    • @joelwhitlock4701

      I use the "WalkyDog." It keeps the dog out of the bike wheels. The snap cord is set to the dog's height and has a spring inside to provide some give. I have never had a problem controlling my 45 pound GSP when she gets distracted and wants to chase something. I would certainly have an issue if rollerblading with her - which I do. In that case, I need to drop the leash, which is also long enough to get her out in front of me, as compared to the bike where she is right beside me.

      Yes concrete can wear pads a little fast just keep an eye on this until they toughen!

      I ran AKC Field Trials and used a harness like this but leather with big connecting rings on the side. To each of these rings I attached 2 three feet long bungee cords. To the other end of the bungee cord I attached 3/8" to 1/2" logging chain for about 20 to 30 pounds total weight (depending on my GSP'S age and physical size). I would let the dogs drag this around out back on my 5 acres for conditioning. I had no 4 wheeler and the nearest training grounds was 2 1/2 hours away. My dogs were always at the top of their game for condition using just this.

    What happens if the dog trips up or you flip the bike ? Dumbest thing I've ever seen.

      It's about where you ride also flat and open like the beach is great. And communication, totally safe if you take all precautions and keep the speed low. Even having your wife on the back watching them and telling u if anything goes wrong. I will only be doing this on the beach ⛱
