Satori! 14 weeks ago I started my design journey. In religiously studied your content along with others like Chris Do of The Futur. I focused on making social media banners. 2 weeks ago, a LinkedIn influencer shared a post of mine… I’ve ended up with a 32 client waiting list! Your material has helped me and continues to help me. If there’s something I need to figure out, I UA-cam search it and 99% of the time, you’ve done a video on the very problem I’m facing. Thank you for everything!
Thank you for the video! One thing that I'd like to share here; I always ask myself --"Why?" Why this and why that? Why not this and why not that? I design logos, so, my questions are generally regarding grapgic elements, typedaces, colours, space around etc. But, my intention of this practice is to make myself sure that why I did this or why I didn't that; so that, I can convincingly explain the reasons to my clients.
Everyone has a _creative mind_ but not everyone is trained to use it creatively. I discovered that many clients had the proper, functional, final product in their mind already set. The problem, though, was always the capability to understand that image and describe it properly. Self-awareness and communication are the biggest hurdles to overcome in the client - designer partnership.
My first "work" on web design (in 80's) was to a mechanic workshop owner asking to use his colors on the site: egg yellow as background, neon blue on foreground. And blood red as animated call to action widgets everywhere ("the most, better", he said). I have absolutely no proud of this, but I was in debt with the college, so...
I thank you for your videos. I am a junior designer, self-taught, and about 2 months in working for a publishing company. I've been active in the world of art ever since I was a kid but I am also a techie. Unfortunate how I never did try to use both earlier in my life. Only now did I realize that I have the talent to create and design because I am really loving my job. The amount of information and knowledge your giving away for free for the likes me is extremely helpful. And I want to honor your content by sharing it to every one who wishes to pursue a career like ours.
Communication and having the confidence to have your voice heard is so valuable. Like you said, 9 times of 10 clients don't know what they are talking about, so having a 'voice of reason' to talk them through certain design choices and why they'll be the optimal solutions is just what they need, and more often than not that's what they appreciate. Of course there are exceptions to the rule as you mentioned and some clients are super stubborn. But, I've found in my experience that this is very rare as long as you communicate the value of your designs well. Great video again mate!
@@SatoriGraphics exactly man! It’s only recently that I made this shift myself 🤣. Your videos are awesome in helping shift perspectives so keep up the fantastic work. We can learn so much from shared experiences.
I'd call this the 3-G. Gaslight, Gatekeep and Girlboss. Jokes aside, this is really helpful to learn, especially for someone who's not very good at communicating through words. Thank you for this video❣️
As usual, this is helpful as many clients do not know what they want in order to get the best out of their designers for a better ROI. Design is not abracadabra; it is a process that is subjective. Thankfully, with communication, one can always get better. But recalcitrant clients can be frustrating sometimes.
sir I am from INDIA. My name is ARNAB GHOSH..I am your huge fan ... I am a graphic and website Designer.. I have been watching your videos since when I was in college. Your video has helped me a lot to improve my designing skill.. And also I have watched your every single video which is based on how to improve Graphics skill ... THANK YOU SIR...
This is a super valuable piece of advice that i will surelly follow! I would like to just add a little thing: You need to fully understand the feedback of the client even if it does not "seems right". Sometimes behind those crappy feedbakcs there are little ideas that may make sense, So maybe is a good idea to include them in your good design. In that way you can show a little empathy aswell. and it may make the client more likelly to be oipen minded on your alternative
Amazing motion design in your video. That's fun because I am going in the same direction for some transition or element work. I don't know if it is because I was influence by you or if it is because we feel, regarding the design environment that we should go in that direction. Thanks for your tips and inspiration anyway, you give some interesting ideas there anyway!
These are great ideas. Sometimes clients ask for some crazy stuff and you have to try and educate them and lead them in the right direction. One time, a client that's in the healthcare business wanted to mail out patient letters with a 16pt font size. I remember sending them the design and explaining to them that it would look ridiculous lol 😂. The story ended happily though and they stuck to a good ol' 12pt font size.
A customer did this to me, I make him my very best design and I pour a lot of energy onto this design, and he just simply, it's too good and he wants the lite worse version. I was angry and then things went down further, he said to a lot of people that I designed those without even explaining what's really happening. My name attached to it, and oh God it's the worst feeling I ever knew.
Clients are the worse! I once told a client who said my design was ‘wonky’ that had they been to art college, they’d understand it’s called perspective. 🤣
Think about what message and emotion you want to evoke, then consider the psychology of colour. Stick to 2 main colours and then one accent colour that is used in small amounts.

Yeah that's precisely it. It's something that takes some experience and time to fully get your head around a lot of the time.

You nailed it bro. Before we design we need to educate our client how things work. Your studycase show your value. Just like show.
like always . statori helping us out to be better designer . cudos to you mate!!!
