I’m an up and comer, subscribed a while back. Your knowledge is nothing I’ve seen before. You are the last of an error I truly belive. Keep the vids going always. Thanks mate, from Australia.
Great content as usual Gare. Love your no nonsense wisdom. Keep up what you do and as a plea, show more of your bow collection and tell a story or three. I'm sure you have a great store of wonder..... Flaxen Saxon
Ordered Jerry Hills book on his famous Uncle. Appreciate all your helpful tips...especially the relaxation tips from another video. Love to see your obvious passion for archery. Keep'em flying straight Gare.
Hi Gary, i'm a novice on archery and I have been shooting traditional bows since 3 months ago. At firts I was using the olympic style, but it didn't feel good to me, so I searched for somebody teaching how to shoot like our ancestors did (and because this is the way i want to shoot). I found your channel and since 2 weeks ago I have been using the lessons you teach on your videos. Since then, I feel much more comfortable with my stance on my daily shooting and it seems my groupings are more consistent. Now, if I see my arrow flying off my target I know what to correct (usually my dominant eye not correctly placed). Thank you very much Gary. P.S.- Sorry for my bad english.
Thank you Gary! I had given up on my traditional shooting for months, until today. I seen your video and you inspired me to go out to the woods and shoot with the knowledge you handed down. I can now nail a rabbit from 30 yards with relative ease. You are a great teacher and a great archer. It was a cold southern Ontario day but man was it great! Thanks again. Also made me burn my name in Viking across my deer hide back quiver strap
Gare! Another great instructional movie! Okay, I got a 40# recurve bow, finger glove, arm shield, carbon arrows and a 16”x16” stuffed hay target. 25 feet away: 1st shot hit at 3 o’clock outer from center and 2nd below that and third missed whole target. Can’t pull back to jaw bone just yet. At 70 years with both shoulders post op 1 year, and having not held a bow since Boy Scouts at 12 years; maybe I’m on the road to traditional archery; thanks in great part to your teachings! I’m also growing now, with my first ever plant just popped the surface this morning 9/1/20. 😎
CONGRATULATIONS ON THE GARDEN. 40 IS STILL NOT A LIGHT BOW, BUT CAN BE GOT USE TO FAIRLY EASY. IN THE BEGINNING I'D SAY 70-80 SHOTS A NIGHT TIL YOU GET USE TO IT WILL BE ENOUGH. HAVE FUN GARE
Gary Chynne -Gare: Thanks! 70 times or more a day practice shooting? Lol! My second session came yesterday when my second shot was a bullseye as I closed my eye and aimed with one eye instead of two. I am a diabetic with double vision that is corrected with glasses, so I closed eye hit the bullseye, the next 3 shots; bullseye. I guess that I should shoot one eyed?! My stance was as you directed and I remembered to push my left hand slightly forward that then caused the right hand fingers to release the arrow. It floored me to make such shots one after another, thus dismissing lucky shots. Your teachings echoed in my mind...
Hey Gary, i'll be honest man i feel like i really owe you a lot for teaching us so many techniques, i posted your channel on my Twitter account telling people that your channel is a must watch, they're missing a lot about archery techniques and you taught me many things man, i know it's over the internet but i try the techniques you teach us and wow... i really learned a lot from you man, God bless you gary, you're one of the few good men with lots of wisdom
Great advice as always, especially with the diagrams. Seems to confirm what I've been learning in my own practice and paying attention to your tips. I miss the good old English longbow, though. The horse bow is pretty, but the look and sound of the ELB is just the best.
HIGH BRIAN. IT WAS RAINING YESTERDAY SO I SHOT IN THE HALL. I CANT TO 45 DEGREES AND REALIZED MY LONG BOW IS LONG ENOUGH I CAN'T CANT TO 45 IN THE HALL WITHOUT CLIPPING THE WALL, BUT THE LITTLE KRIM TARTAR HAS NO PROBLEMS IN SMALLER PLACES. I'M STARTING TO REALIZE THE HORSE BOW DOES HAVE SOME PRACTICAL ADVANTAGES AND AT THE MOMENT I'M GETTING KIND OF FOND OF THE LITTLE GUY. IN THE END I LIKE THEM BOTH QUITE A BIT. THANK YEW HAVE FUN GARE
It´s so different from all this sh..., You learn from modern archery teachers, who are only trained for shooting modern recurve bows, but Your methods work! They work perfectly for Primitive Bows, English Longbows (not those modern flatbows with a shelf, because they are not traditiional longbows) and Horsebows shot in mediterranean style! Thank You for sharing all this knowledge with us!
HIGH MY FRIEND. THAT IS THE BEST NEWS I COULD HEAR. IT MAKES ME HAPPY TO KNOW MY OBSERVATIONS ARE HELPING GUYS LEARN TO SHOOT OUR ANCESTRAL BOWS WELL. GOOD SHOOTIN. HAVE FUN GARE
Hey Gary, Love how informative and clear you are in your videos. Would love a bow making series done by you ! Also, do you have any flat bows you shoot? Would love to see one of those
Na-na-na-na-na-na! Be the arrow! Na-na-na-na-na-na! Thank you Obe-Gary-Won! Lol! Seriously, thank you for your passion to teach us to become better archers & to appreciate the sport more.
Yeah.... the squint is a good pointer (especially for older guys). I call it the archer's WINK and when the eyes get older, oftentimes, as with mine going bad, the eye under the arrow will give way to the eye that is really more of nature's range finder. This will bring you off center but the wink or SQUINT will get you back in line whether you're an instinctive guy or gap shooter.
I was wondering if this work with bows with a shelf? If the practice is the same or dose it really only pertain to long bow. I have an American style short bow with a shelf.
I went out to the woods with what Gary had shared. And it works, I shoot with a Ben Pearson bow from the 50’s with a shelf and his style works flawlessly... I can hit a rabbit from 30 yards with relative ease, where before I’d be lucky to hit it at 5 yards. Try it, Gary knows
Hello Gare, another hunting, fishing, guitar playing bow shooter here. I just found your channel this week and I enjoy it immensely. Recently i’ve had the hankering to build my own bows. Lots of good vids out there. I was floored by some bows being built with PVC pipe. You got an opinion on PVC as bow material? Thanks mucho, Gare. Skipper
Thank you so much for another video. Pretty sure thats the first f-bomb i heard from you haha. I finally got my first "long bow" with no shelf and i will be reviewing your channel for aiming tips. I am from B.C. and as you know, winter is a commin. So i was wondering what you do to keep your hands and specifically your draw fingers from freezing. Pulling 50lbs when your fungers feel like ice isnt the greatest feeling. I will deal with it because you know... I have to haha. Thanks again, keep the videos coming. I watch them all :)
HIGH BRYCE AS U SEE I WEAR GLOVES. I CUT THE FINGERS BACK ON ONE SO I CAN WEAR MY SHOOTIN GLOVE. ALSO GO ON GOOGLE AND TYPE IN WORLD FAMOUS HAND WARMER 453. ALSO HAND WARMER FUEL STICKS 455. THEY WORK GREAT. HAVE FUN GARE
Squinting is much like pointing with both eyes open then close one eye. Your finger will stay close with dominant eye. Im left eye dominant but shoot right. So I have to squint
@@garychynne1377 your shooting is so relaxed. You're not tensed up, then telling people to relax. I see you shot a pretty heavy long bow. You sir are an archer that others can learn from. So I give a mead skull to you
I shoot differently than you. After 60 years of shooting "off my knuckle" most of my technique is muscle memory. My draw has changed over the years from an anchor point on my face to behind my ear. The change happened when I changed from a traditional English D shape Long Bow to a much shorter "Horse Bow." My "Instinctive Aiming" technique changed with my new style bow. Also my English Bow is well over 65 lbs. @ 28" and my Horse Bow is 55 lbs. @ 32". It took some dedicated practice to develop a level of accuracy comparable to my English Long Bow. After 60 years of shooting a long bow I had some relearning challenges.
Hey gare, I’ve been wondering, how much do you think a novice level bow somewhat like yours would cost? You’ve probably said before how much they run, but I forget :)
. Wondering about outfit.
Splitting image of someone else I know..
is it possible?? Good info.
