incredibly insightful, especially as someone whos just learning FL and its plugins. crazy how clear the snare/clap comes thru in the mix with this method, thats what always bugs me the most about making my beats with a clipped master
You can do this way cleaner by just routing a basic sine wave (in low octave), and the instument you wanna distort onto the same track, then after distortion cut out the sine wave from the bottom with eq.
That's usually what I do these days. Although, the method in the vid is better at achieving the sound you get from just slamming the 808 into the soft clipper.
Dude. thanks you so much for this, I just applied this method and I got them goosebumps, holy shhh!! This is the single best video ever on distorting 808s bro I swear. I especially love how you can not only control the amount of distortion but also turn down the amount of the dry signal of an 808 so it doesn't overpower the mix, this is exactly what I had a problem with using the Soft Clipper on Master, it sound hard and shh, but the mix is so overpowered like everything is lost behind the bass. Appreciate the tip once again, people like you give me a lot of hope that my grind isn't just a waste of time, much love!!
This was literally the type video I was looking for. I love making rage beats but when I walked into a studio for the first time with these type beats happening it was just horrible. I’ve been looking for a video like this forever but other producers wouldn’t even know or refer to lukrative, f1lthy, etc. I needed to watch someone that made THESE type beats explain and you did everything perfectly. Tysm fr 🖤🖤🩸🩸
Very helpful vid but what do i put on the master after? like limiter to make it louder? it would be very nice of you to reply. thanks.edit: also how loud should the send track be
Anyone got a good idea for how to replicate what’s he’s doing with Maximus in Logic Pro? I’ve got everything else down with the sends but need me a Maximus
You could do this with any distortion plugin. I'm sure Logic has an intense distortion, soft clipper, or waveshaper plugin. All Maximus is, is a multiband compressor with saturation settings.
Do you maybe have a written down version of this? I'd love to try this out but i'm having trouble translating everything onto ableton since i dont use fl
oh this is very convenient, seems pretty applicable for ableton too ill just have to replace Maximus with Roar i think? not sure i understand what it's doing here, it's a multiband distortion right?
It's capable of that, but all I'm doing is using the saturation on the master tab within maximus. Any waveshaper or distortion plugin could work, and provide a different sound.
can someone tell me why my fruity send only routes to the master and nothing else? it doesn't give me the option to route my 808 to anything else. please i need help i've been trying to research this for like an hour now. i'm assuming it's because i always use an empty template, never a template that already has 4 sends. in that case is there a way to change my project file so it HAS those 4 sends or am i screwed?
@@LutherBurgermake sure that you’re routing your 808 track to the track you want to use as a send in the bottom of the mixer. highlight the 808 channel and then right click the white triangle at the bottom of the track you want to create into a send, and click “sidechain to this track”. That should make the send track appear in the list of send tracks in fruity send.
can someone explain this for ableton? maximus does multiband dynamics? i tried putting a soft clipper and OTT on a ableton send and tried fooling around with the amount but i cant get the same effect.
@@MauriceBerisha try making the input signal louder before the soft clipper. Maximus is a multiband plugin but doesnt matter cuz I'm using the master band anyways.
@@outlitxx is it possible that ableton uses a different algorhythm for clipping above 0db? i have tried a few different stock plugins paired with stuff like sausage fattener etc and even tho im closer to the effect than last time it still doesnt affect the feel of the entire track in the same way you showed. just so we are o the same page and i didnt understand this method wrong. step1 have a 808 track and at least 1 melody element routed to a fx send. step2 put (in my case) something like abletons glue compressor on the send and use it as a clipper instead of compression. step3 cut everything under 200Hz from the effect track step4 blend the dry signal with the send and level them so they sound distorted without actually reaching above 0db thanks for the quick response last time i appreciate it.. definitely gonna subscribe to whaever program your selling next month!!!
@@MauriceBerisha I’m not too sure about the algorithms and what not, but you may want to try a plugin which is achieves the sound you’re looking for. Not familiar with ableton’s glue compressor. Is there a soft clipping setting? If you’re just compressing the blended signal it could be preventing it from reaching the saturation threshold, that’s where your problem may be. You could try using a dedicated soft clipper instead. I used Maximus as an extreme example here but it would also work with fruity soft clipper.
first link the source channel to the send channel at the very bottom where the routing is. Make sure the green knob is turned all the way down. Then you should be able to use fruity send to send it to the new send channel
I think it has to do with the template you're using. There is a way to create sends but don't know off the top of my head. When creating a new project just select File - New From Template - Minimal - Empty with 4 sends
