Really informative series of videos. These trucks are beyond my means but the technical insight is fascinating. Thanks for taking the time to make these. Many thanks, Dave.

Thanks! This was super interesting, especially the carbon fiber part, the thermal conduction of carbon I didn't know.
Would be great if you could show the smaller vehicles on the channel as well.

Thanks for this video! I have the plan to build my own shelter someday in the future.
I now have an Unimog 404 with a radiobox. the same box where you started with. And I restored my box and made it 50cm longer and I have double side doors now. And I insulated it by making an insulated box inside of the radiobox. And I installed a 2KW diesel heater in it.
    I love the Unimog 404 platform with a Diesel swap (OM617 80hp) :)

Are you prepared to do a video on the building and integrating of the thermal floor into the subframe, now that is something I'd like to see done.

Hi Thomas..! I've been watching you explaining things about Expedition Vehicle builds and I love the way speak. Since I watch your videos so frequently, you've become like one of my family members now. 😍
However, I need to discuss with you regarding a few customisations on a MAN HX 60's rear axle. How to get in touch with you?

Very informative on the different materials for the body but I think I would like to go with the carbon fiber as it block cell tower signals and maybe other signals as well. A faraday cage doesn't sound so bay 🤗

Excellent and informative video! I just wish you had covered how you treat wiring. Do you build in conduits into the center of the panels to route wiring on the insulated side of the ceiling and walls?

Very informative video. In the topic of expedition vehicles Your videos are among the best on the internet :) I have some technical questions (not that I expect answers but it would be nice to know): Do You use any type of fasteners to put the superstructure together or do You use only glue? Is the superstructure glued to the support frame or is it attached with screws? What type of glue are You using?

  • @tooldiygeek
    @tooldiygeek 2 роки тому

I think you mentioned in another video that you use Sika adhesives to bond the composite panels. Sika 252 seems to be the industry standard for this purpose. Is this the product you are using?

Just great to see up close how a prepped panel looks. Also the simplicity of the L pieces instead of already made u channel L. The door fibreglass. Does it have wood behind the fibreglass for screws or nothing or metal pre drilled to accept the hinge for the door with out stripping??? I Would really love to see how and what is integrated into a sandwich panel on the floor. In my mind I expect I’m heavily over engendering this part.

When Integrating the steel frame into the floor panel, how do you avoid cold bridging and ensure proper insulation all the way through the floor?

  • @marcdesair3049

Total body in fiberglass panel, is good for very cold temperature ( -40 degree) ? I have doubts about the joining and glueing of the panels. Do you use epoxy glue or silicone?

There can be also problem with galvanic corrosion with carbon fiber. Care must be taken to isolate contact of carbon to metal structure.

Ever company know you are the best But what you missing is they tayps Of customer > The Best Build now For sales > is rally services truck where the 2 side open manual ( open space )but you have to make the side bigger where ppl can sit on it ( manual ) btw
Do not complicate matters, otherwise the truck will become heavy and expensive.
Focus on the basics and be practical and design. If the customer wants more, you can do so .. and the sales will hit the sky .

16:05 what do you mean by not weight critical but it’s weight sensitive? Is that for gas mileage or being top heavy?

What are your thoughts on Electric drivetrains powered by a petrol generator/welder? Have around 15-60k battery range for short bounds and to power everything inside your vehicles. Supplement your petrol generator with solar panels and a retractable wind turbine.
I found your channel after doing research on my own expedition design. You know the saying, if you have a good idea someone else probably already has done it. Well your UNICATS are pretty much the exact same platform I came to the conclusion of needing. All the weight and square meters needed for batteries and housing solar/wind/petrol energy generation demands a large heavy expedition type vehicle platform.
Now I based all my plans on trying to convert an 8x8 hemtt simply because I thought the extra drop axels could further add regenerative braking. Still doing the math to see if the benefits out perform the weight of an extra axel. But I think my electric drivetrain idea would work on any of your larger UNICATS.

would you like to start together a project for military use? briefly, it's about "mobile military bases" on trucks (I see it 80% in my mind, it's very effective, with your logistik & experience we can make them "over the top") very versatile&offroad, in order to be deployed very quickly or moved very quickly outside of a fallout zone for ex, I'm sure that would be a nice but also a quite good business!

Sandwich composite panels are good insulation but very dangerous, absolutely NO roll over protection. None will pass the dot roll over requirement for personnel protection like simple school buses, transit buses or monocoque buses. Something to think know about when your family is in there.

A customer of ours overturned, in Africa, dented only one edge of the body, and was able to go home on his own wheels. It always depends on how you build the boxes ....
