Nice to see santa cruz go a bit more progressive with the geo on this, especially since its on the enduro race end of the spectrum. Riders are sure to appreciate the coil compatibility, and in a world with so many strong long travel 29ers, SC needed a new flagship in that category.
Why don't they make their 29ers in aluminum?? Do they think that they will lose sales of the aluminum Bronson and Nomad? Or does it have something to do with weight? It seems pretty cost prohibitive for a lot of riders out there.
it is not really comparable to say that a old xl hightower lt is now an size L because considering seet tube angle and head angle in my opinion the megatower feels like the hightower lt in therms of sizing, i wouldnt change size between the two
Shock tuning is so specific to individual riders and weights. I can never find a factory shock tune on any bike that works for me beyond fiddling with pressure and rebound. Compression damping is always too stiff and I am spending the cash later to get my shocks and forks tuned for my weight. I would love to see manufacturers offer shock tunes for rider weight as seperate from frame size or intended gender.
Is anyone having difficulty in getting this bike? I paid for mine in April. I called the bike shop yesterday and now it is looking like I’m not going to be getting it until middle of June! WTH? Is this normal for Santa Cruz? Is anyone else having these issues?
Just make a proper fitting seat tube for taller riders so the adjustable dropouts won't be needed and won't be still useless since the original issue (slack seat angle) will be eradicated.
Completes start at $4,499 USD. There are 13 builds to choose from. Check out all of the prices here: www.vitalmtb.com/product/guide/Bikes,3/Santa-Cruz/Megatower-CC-X01-29-Reserve,25442#product-reviews/3491/expand
Please note that this statement was an error on our part. This bike is compatible with 29x2.5" tires in the short chainstay setting and 29x2.6" tires in the long chainstay setting. We were told 27.5+ tires will not fit. Honestly, though, we're not sure this bike is the place for them.
@@jimi272 I got the orange frame (no choice) from Competitive cyclist.. I just swapped some of the components from my Canfield Yelli Screamy ....Climbs really good with DHF (front) and the new racing ray (rear) . Oval chain ring also help! good luck!
Bay Enduro that’s sick!! Yeah , I also like how the regular hightower is still playful and so incredible light! 29“ or 27.5+? Because I now run both setups...
Bay Enduro haha that’s actually sick! To first buy a hardtail and then do a frame swap! Will also show how overpriced the full sus mtb‘s are, and you don’t really need that much bling...
So is this mostly an Enduro bike or could it be used as an all around trail? I'm also considering Hightower LT and Stumpjumper. I'd appreciate any and honest feedback! Thanks!
Zachel s having a regular hightower, with both 29 x 2.3 and also 27.5+ x 2.8, and having ridden the hightower LT, aswell as specialized enduro and stumpi, I would mostly consider the new MEGATOWER, as it probably is the most consistent and confidence giving bike... The enduro is also awesome, the stumpy a bit bumby but cool and playful in its way too! But if you don’t want to go huge like a megatower, then i‘d opt for a standard hightower actually! Get a good deal on last years clearance bikes, get a better shock maybe, and give the fork an upgrade to 160, and imo it’s the best of all! Super light, super strong and stable(the Frame...) and geometry is also nice! Also give the 27.5+ a try, but with real 27.5+ (2.8 or more ) I highly can not recommend the hightower lt though! To small reach, not enough clearance on seattube, nightmare to set up the shock (either too harsh and progressive or always tirerubbing on seattube because of bottom outs) So yeah, regular hightower with 160 fork in either 27.5+ or 29, or if you want to go bigger than that, just the megatower! Would also work with 27.5+ I recon! Hope I could help you a bit!
I'm new to MTB, what the hell does "progressive" mean? I hear it in almost every review? Can someone explain in detail or point me in the right direction to understand this?
It means that the suspension resists with more force the more you squish it down. If it was linear, you would get the same resistance the whole way through to bottom out.
Sean Hornchek ok but what about having 3 bikes in the 170-150mm suspension range?! Imho a single frame with adjustable travel and geo would be a better pick
there is the megatower - big travel big wheels, nomad - big travel small wheels, bronson - mid travel small wheels, v10 - biggest travel both wheels, the bikes tailor to riding style and terrain. they are all unique.
Other reports the seat tube angle actually measures at 61 degrees which makes a MASSIVE difference...Id recommend you’d start measuring bikes and gain credibility rather than reading the manufacturer marketing BS.
Vital MTB Hence why other more throughout/professional journalists will report actual numbers rather than repeating what we can ALL read from the manifacturers website. You’d gain credibility doing something like that and your viewers would then have more accurate information thanks to you.Btw, Im pretty sure a large majority of your viewers are already aware of the difference between actual and effective measurements🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
@@Guitarrulez actual information how? So you can do all sorts of math to determine the effective seat tube angle at "X" seat tube height? You are asking for information that exists in a vacuum. If its something you really care about, download a stock photo, grab the ole protractor and start doing your own math. Lets be really honest, so long as the STA is close, you can always move your saddle fore/aft to make up for whatever you don't like. End of the day, this bike was really meant to get after it while standing....which totally negates that angle all together anyway.
I have seen many Initial Reviews for the Hella-MegaTower, and this is by far the Best One Yet!!!
SANTA CRUZ someday you will stop being my dream to become reality. 😍
I hope that for u (sori for me bad engrish)
SAME !!!!
💥 Solid review. This is the first 29er I am actually interested in. 🤔

Awesome Vid .
An obvious comparison given your comments around its versatility over other long travel 29ers would be the ripmo?
Nice review. How many volume reducers would you recommend to put into the rear shock? I have the RockShox Super Deluxe Select+. Thanks for the help!
How does it compare to an sb150?
Probably worse and more expensive
It doesn't.
TheCrustyMoose its better, as they mentioned...
Very Nice bike

Looks like it would be similar to steering a ship. The Lt still feels like it has the spirit of a trail bike.
details on the frame are top notch but the shock needs some tunning .. ok :)

Very cool
How do I get the bottle cage?
Go in a shop und buy one.
Frame only = $4499.99 CAD LOL. Can buy a Nomad R for $4849.99 CAD which has basically the same build as the base model $5999.99 CAD Megatower...
Better than wallmarkt bikes

I am thinking it is doable, but many options that would be better. As of right now, the Ripmo is the best Trail Bike of all time.
If you want an all around trail bike it's hard to beat a Trek Remedy for the money. Of course it's 27.5 wheels, which is why I have a Slash.

Why sc is making all same bikes?! The nomad the bronson and this one are almost the same bike!! I really can’t understand
Francesco Daniotti having the similar linkage design does not make the bike the same.

15kg , new vpp is horrible to pedal .... would need monster legs to conquer this beast
The new vpp climbs way better than the old vpp imo. My nomad 4 pedals way better than the v2 bronson I came form

Julien, I love the way my BronsonV3 pedals. Does not pedal as nice as the Ripmo, but it is close.

Yea and very relevant
Yeti SB150 > Megatower
But Yeti cracks all the time.
