This is one of the videos I watched that helped in my decision for this machine. Anyone who reads about the issues I am having PLEASE know this is NOT the norm. This is a great machine!
Pretty nifty. You can engrave anodized aluminum and glass. Also there is a spray for glass and another one for metals to engrave them black (Cermark). I have also engraved custom dials and scales for woodworking equipment in acrylic. Great fun, thanks for the video.
Sweet one hope you make a mint off the projects that you do with it. Ohh the possibilities. Just got to keep the dog away 🤣🤣😂😆🤣. As always good luck and God Bless.
I’m not sure if I could add to it. I haven’t actually used it since my 20 watt laser came and now I have a 40 watt. It would make sense that there are common parts used by the less expensive laser manufacturers.
@@NorthwestSawyer Just click on my name and I have some UA-cam videos of some of my art. I used to be a laser operator in a small steel fabrication shop.
Looks really neat, Jason. Should be really useful for you. I've seen several Longers show up on videos lately. Now I want one (I'm just not ready yet). Best wishes for it and congratulations. Bill
Thank you, Bill! I was a little intimidated by the need to learn the software at first but thanks to UA-cam, there is no shortage of great how-to videos. I’m really enjoying this.
Hey Jason, You're going to have a lot of fun with your new toy. I don't know if the instructions forewarned about what to be careful of when engraving stay away from any mirrors or chromed items because it will reflect the laser beam backup at you. If you do plastic or acrylic make sure you have plenty of ventilation... It smells pretty bad and my neighbors ask me what was burning in my shop. Just to be on the safe side keep a fire extinguisher nearby, I set one of my projects on fire by accident. Stay safe and looking forward to more videos.
Thank you, Mark! I just hung a fire extinguisher in my shop a few weeks ago. The laser came with safety glasses which I’ve been using. That piece of walnut had a nail in it and I was worried about it reflecting the beam. So far so good👍👍
hello can ask what your settings are for cutting 5/8. I have the ray 5 10w Ive been trying to cut 1/4 sanded wood and 1/4 mdf and I cant seem to cut. thank you
Is accurate enough to use on inlay work? Would it cut out both the positive and negative image on two different pieces of wood so that you could put them back together? Looks like you are getting the best toys. Thanks for sharing.
Kevin that’s exactly what I was thinking. In the LightBurn program, you can dial in the size of your cut to the thousandth of a mm. I was thinking this would be great for bow ties but any inlay you could make adjustments for the negative and positive cuts.
@@NorthwestSawyer With all of that gorgeous wood you have been cutting, two contrasting colours and grains leaves a world of interesting things you can do. You could make pictures to hang on the wall.
Just wondering what settings you used to cut through the 5/8. I seem to have a hard time cutting through 1/8. I see 100% power but what speed and number of passes?
Boy that’s a good question. I remember going pretty slow. Maybe three passes. It’s one of those things you have to play with and adjust. There are several factors that can affect how the laser performs.
@@NorthwestSawyer I wasn’t very clear in my question. I was wondering how long I would need to let freshly milled lumber dry prior to using the laser engraver or if that would even be an issue. Example: I just milled some green oak. Can I put that in the engraver or does it need to dry to a certain percent moisture level? Thanks for posting.
@@patriots1needed I had a feeling that’s what you meant but sometimes people post a question about a different video and it can be confusing 😬. I honestly don’t think moisture content would be an issue with the laser.
Great to see a video review with a starter laser used on a Mac/iOS platform! So many of the lasers and CNC machines seem to be based on PC platforms. Out of curiosity, it clearly works on odd shaped surfaces like rocks and such, and you can likely put it on platforms for taller material, but can it engrave cups/mugs/tumblers etc? Does Longer have a “roller” adapter for that purpose? Looks like an excellent machine and quite possibly something I’ll follow the link to Jason! Congrats dude 😎
The free one is a 5 watt which used to be the standard. This 10 watt is new and there may be different applications where the lower power works better I’m guessing.
All that info is in the description. The prices often change so I don’t put them in the video typically. Right now it’s on sale for $459 but there’s a discount code for another $30 off. I think 10watt is the biggest one they have.
@@NorthwestSawyer I know this is a great laser but it has been one thing after another since the day it arrived. Bought the dual head and didn't receive the 10 W module, finally received this but it was missing the screws needed for to attach it to the focus. No response on that. Followed the manual to a T.
