If you don't try things you will never know, I was fed up in Scotland.i came to isaan to live with my wife, I have a passive income back home fortunately, currently adjusting to real life here 3 wks now, no regrets. Who knows what the future holds 🤣❤️🇹🇭
Makes sense what you are describing. Plan for the worst and hope for the best. Looking at your trees I can't imagine the farm failing short of the trees getting wiped out by severe storm, disease, or direct sabotage ( it happens!). And you have the expertise and experience of uncle to help as well. I think many viewers have that dream of doing what you have actually done and they live that out through your videos, but many won't or can't take that actual step to doing it for real. its a bridge too far or too risky, or they don't have that connection with a person in a different country to make it happen. I am sure you will be successful in the farm venture
You will do great keep positive and do the best you can. Best of luck 🤞 your farm is looking great, much better from last year trees have grown much bigger
Well done on your outlook on life in general. I am like your dad always worrying about something going wrong etc. But I think you will liv e longer not worrying.
About the palm tree roots, the trench will surely help. If that's not enough and they can still reach your land maybe you can bury a thin plastic barrier beneath the trench or close to it. Poeple use these to limit the spread of bamboo for example which builds vast root networks (bamboo is basically big grass).
well your Farm looking great actually I love it , just don't give up and I think your wife know very well that Durian need lot more care but good money back in return and one more thing that we can not control the weather, so just be prepare for that
life is what you make it .enjoy you only get one life,if you go wrong only you can change .you seam to be doing all the right things at the moment good luck.
Another great video. A walk around the farm and updates are always entertaining. 50 or 20 minutes, it is always a treat to watch. So much more family detail shared helps to better understand your situation. You are a smart guy and everyday brings new challenges and you develop new skills to deal with them. You have a great life.
Yep, if you take a pragmatic view and the glass is always half full as opposed to half empty you won’t go too wrong in the long term. With Yisa and I planning our move to Udon in 2024 we’re hoping and planning for the best but have a contingency plan as a fallback just in case. Best from us both.
Try the Whisky business. They have to wait 6 year minimum. Start-Ups blend other makers whisky and sell that. Perhaps you guys should do some buying and selling trading of Durian as a way to get familiar with the industry. Or buy Durian and package it / upgrade to a prepared product.
ive thought about that, weve no shortage, the uncle has loads to sell, but the big money is is china, and exporting them may need a local knowledge, so thats why we didnt pursue it atm
Nice video, very interesting as always. Good quality too. Please tell me what your video setup is, please? Emigrating to Isaan shortly and I want to make videos for people at home , not wanting to become a UA-cam Vlogger myself. Thanks.

Thailand has some things that are hard for others to grow flowers herbs herbal medicines other sources of income that can be grown in your situation there's lots of ground space spare around your house shrubs especially herbal could be good ones with little or no work that can fill in the land with a long term crop may be 3, 5 or 10 year one thing you need to do is to send a soil sample off to Bangkok agricultural uni for a breakdown of what exactly you are sitting on this can help enormously in not wasting time growing the wrong things 20 24 is the year most probably for the triple train season central Thailand will get it but china will be very bad especially Shanghai area just be repaired or allow for this possibility down the line.Weather wars are on the way.
I hate to tell you, Mike but as omnivores rodents LOVE fresh fruit...in fact it's just about their preferred food. But as we all know, our Thai wives know best so I'm sure it'll all be fine. Best to make sure they've got an area where they're well protected from rain and direct sun....they'll sort out the best spot for themselves if they've got options.
Farmers are planting Durian in almost all of Thailand. Large swaths of land is being planted in North Thailand. If that works, the price of Durian will take a nose dive. This has been happening to all the fruit in Thailand due the surrounding Countries growing fruit. Pineapples, Mangos, and Longan have all taken hits. So, good luck with the Durian.
You’re right, they’ve even started growing durian here in Isan-before that they tried rubber, also from the South. I think it stands a much better chance in a Southern climate.
Yes, a lot of us jumped on the band wagon last year. But the Chinese lust for Durian is growing, and I see no reason why it should stop any time soon. If the Thai Durian farm is run efficiently - and without loans- it should be self financing even if the price falls by 50% in the future.
Thats interesting to hear. How much is getting grown and where in North Thailand? From what I have been reading the market is growing at an annual rate of 20% + for the last many years, with an ongoing under supply of durian. I know of quite a few that have tried to grow but have failed, sometimes three tines over and then given up and turned to something that is easier to grow. Not to many Thai farmers can go for too many years without an income waiting for durian to come into harvest and capital is not easy to come by from banks. I see a lot of barriers to entry as a result. Having said that the few farms that have achieved success are reaping the financial rewards, and are now expanding to grow more durian as a result. Prices this season in the Isaan area are also strong, with much of the fruit reserved on the tree before it is ripe/picked/falls to the ground. We also grow durian btw so have a vested interest in how the market performs in the future
@@timbee71 Maybe its time to switch to cannabis now that it is legal :) The rubber situation is well understood, cartel like behaviour by the tyre companies that surpress the price paid to farmers. Durian is a it different as the market is not controlled ( yet?) by any large players. With the use of social media, many farms sell direct suing FB and Line accounts and much of the fruit is reserved before it gets picked once it is ripe - can be 90 to 120 days from flower/small fruit to full size fruit. Thailand is still the largest exported of durian in the region vs Malaysia Indonesia Laos Cambodia Vietnam Phillipines with Thai durian enjoying a reputation as being of good/better quality. The feedback we get is that fruit from the south is of a lower quality because it is too wet in the south so of the grades it is typically grade C fruit. The hotter and dry conditions in the north are suggested to be better during the ripening season, along with this mythical volcanic soil ( Sisaket area), which leads to better flavour and a higher grade of fruit either B or A. Time will tell if this is correct or not, but regardless I am confident that durian growers will do well as the market is far from saturated and is still growing every year
@@bernadettedevine3085 the birds in Thailand are beautiful full of colours and wonderful sounds unfortunately this means there're valuable, I have removed a builder from my house because he thought it was OK to catch birds on my property, he lost thousands.

you are right, it is risky in a way, and people with kids cant take such a chance with their stability

Snakes go after birds in cages their an easy meal
20 min is a good length for a video
Hate to change the subject Mike, getting back to your guns for self protection. Have you thought about a shotgun.
Why cage birds at all??
Yes. Putting those that are free and beyond our skill set in a cage next to a National Park…,hope to be barred. Because that is not who you are. Mumxx
Well do not exploit anything just contribute if you are breathing and have something just share it.
